I am a native of Ibaloi tribe (one of the subtribes of Igorot in the Cordillera Region) from the municipality of Kabayan. It is also considered as the cradle of civilization of all Ibalois weather they are Inontog Ibaloi, Ipasdong Ibaloi or Iowak ibaloi (subtribes again of Ibalois). Kabayan is the only town/municipality that practiced Bendian not in the entire province of Benguet. The Bendian dance signified successful head hunting or battle against the opposing tribe. The center of the circle is adorned with an erected spear with the blade upwards and the heads of the killed members of the opposing tribe. Fresh blood was allowed to flow to the ground while the elders or mambunong (Igorot medicine man/high priest) were killing pigs by stabbing the animal in the heart with a wooden stick that squeals can be heard then the entire animal was burned to remove the hairs/fur then cut into large chunks and boiled without spices. The method of cooking was/is called bat-bat that was distributed in the entire village. Men shoul encircle the center spear in clockwise manner and the women are on the inner circle in a counter clockwise manner. The leader of the men shouts the proper movements like "kinikian", Inoschungang,...etc. This presentation is wrong and inacurate!!!
@@mellow5935 right, an "interpretation" not of one from the actual source which this material is supposedly "representing". At least acknowledge that rather than spite the brother who is PROPERLY providing the proper info and context. @Zoe Macaraeg, Beautiful that you took this upon yourself to present for your practicum, but be accepting of Laoagan Lester's information, be aware that these types of mischaracterization of our culture is akin to if an outsider were to make an "interpretation" and therefore a mischaracterization of something that is a part of Filipino culture. I would imagine such a an act could breed some form of anger ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RLzu3mpqwh4.html this is a much more proper form of the Ibaloi Bendian which originated in the town that my mother was born in. I do hope that awareness to our people's feelings regarding our culture, be the same as if some random person commented on one's content. Sympathy is key and acknowledge goes both ways. (one thing to note to younger Filipino folk that are not Igorot, is that one should understand that for years and years our people were looked down upon, and to see non-Igorot people make "interpretations" of our culture is somewhat triggering. Responding with the sentiment of "che don't be so sensitive" is unkind and callous) I hope this exchange is meaningful to you, Cheers, Johnedel
I repeat for practicum purposes only, our Sir gave this copy to us his students and ginaya lang po namin yun, we don’t know na di pala to yung exact dance ninyo
May i ask if this is a cordillera dance?Because if it,your basis of the dance steps is wrong.I'm part of the cordillera and part of the kankana-ey and ibaloi tribe.I appreciate that you are dancing our ethnic dance for us to be a popular and i do understand that you only dance this for practicum purposes but i would like you to delete the video due to the wrong step of this dance you made. It feels like it mocking and disrespecting the culture itself. Our ethnic dances have thier own meaning, the same as all the dances in the Philippines. Please my request is do research it properly about the Bendian dances and other ethnic dances, for you to not spreading wrong information about ethnic dances. And also please change your yt tittle,And also inform your teacher that they give you wrong sources about this.
