Thank you for your service and the stories you shared. As a wife of an active duty Air Force officer it truly hit home to me. We truly need to stand in holy places and the Lord will be with us.

Thank you for the uplifting stories. They remind us that even when we may be in the midst of war, the Lord will be aware of us and bless us as we serve Him. We need to remember that when we get discouraged by the things going on around us.

This episode has just been Wonderful to listen to! I love hearing 'stories', I learn so much from them, and by applying the wisdom to struggles in my own life. My Dad did National Service during the Korean War (he wasn't a member back then), and he has so many brilliant stories that me and my siblings, and our children, have grown up hearing; I love a raconteur, and Dr Alford is an excellent example! I also love and aporeciate the testimonies given at the end of each episode; all have been truly touching, and uplifting, and are much needed. I, too, 'feel to shout Hallelujah that I know about, and have a testimony of, Joseph Smith'. What an astonishing humanbeing!

Thank you so much for doing these podcasts. I’m a convert from Brazil and I didn’t have the opportunity to go to seminary/institute. I’m learning a lot from you and your guests! You are all amazing!! I went to the temple last Saturday and learned so much because of the “amazing and energetic” Dr Barbara Gardner’s teachings on D&C 84. 🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️

I can’t express how much I enjoyed this. Brother Alford is such a smart, good, dear man, and so incredibly knowledgeable and accomplished! I wish I could take a class from him!! (And from John, and from Hank, and from Brad, and from Barbara, and…) To have seen so much evil and conflict in his life, and yet to have such a peaceful and cheerful countenance! I struggle with depression regarding how evil the world is, and this podcast has helped remind me that I need to be more immersed in the gospel to combat that. Thank you all SO MUCH. ❤️

Thank you! Incredible. I am so uplifted and I absolutely love and appreciate your testimony of Joseph Smith. I had the opportunity to serve a mission in Nauvoo and Carthage and I too feel to shout hallelujah that got to testify of Joseph Smith.

Thank you for another amazing episode so full of insight and inspiration. I looked up the story about the article in the Philadelphia Sunday Mercury and there was an article in the January 1989 New Era entitled "Prophecy in his Pocket" about it. Sorry, I'm not great at sharing links on my phone. Neither of us is that smart. The article was by William G Hartley and said it was Orson Pratt who shared it on his mission and arranged for it to be printed as a pamphlet in Liverpool, England in 1851. So you were right John BTW!

As always your podcast increases my knowledge by leaps and bounds. What an excellent guest choice for this weeks topic. As a side note…John I hope you’ve had the opportunity to visit the National Museum of Military Vehicles in Dubois Wyoming. It is an amazing collection open to the public. If you’ve not been there, schedule a tour with the owner (he does them often). Sounds like something you’d enjoy. Thanks to all who make this podcast happen.

I can’t believe it, you guys keep topping yourselves. My son is in the Air Force and has been to Bagram Airbase. He is a pharmacist which sounds very insignificant but he was there at the base when in Afghanistan suicide bomber exploded a bomb on the base. He has seen his share of trauma and has his stories for sure. It is amazing to hear how heavenly father has his hand and his support on His Saints throughout the world. My son says there are many reasons that he sees as to why he has been prompted to be in the military at this time. He is an amazing young man. Right now he is in Germany and is on the high Council and in the Sunday school presidency. I have learned that in the military callings are issued quite differently than in the ordinary World of the church especially during pandemic times.

Sorry, I hit the wrong button... I would like to get in touch with Kenneth L. Alford but I don't think you mention how to do that. My father-in-law had his first contact with the Church during WWII. It is a very tender story that others may appreciate hearing. We never know the simple things we've done to share the gospel and how they reach others. Please let me know how to reach him.

I love your podcasts - two spiritually erudite hosts and wonderful 'specialist' guests. But I found 32 Part II very disturbing and confusing. Dr Alford, at the beginning of this section, pointed out that the American Civil War was the precursor to modern warfare, in the sense that civilians are now legitimate targets. This premise was accepted by all, and was implicitly assumed throughout the remainder of Part II to permit lauding US involvement in Iraq (based on false intel) and Afghanistan in particular, and around the world. There was no mention of the millions of civilian men, women and children slaughtered there and in other wars around the world. No attempt to explain how US imperialism justifies this slaughter. Just brushed under the carpet, seemingly justified by the observation that this is the new method of warfare initiated by the Civil War. I honestly do not understand the indifference to the suffering caused by the bombs and the drones and the military might. It's scary - not just the violence, but more so the mindset that accepts it as a necessary evil. I wonder how the Saviour views the deaths of the millions?

To understand how the Savior feels we can read the last wonderful talk by Elder Renlund called Infuriating Unfairness. These three good men, by their own admission imperfect, have the goal of deepening our understanding of scripture, not offering a political commentary.
@theodorebartley9776
@theodorebartley9776 3 года назад
@@nettiecakes4892 Having discovered Follow Him, I now listen to the podcasts every week, and I learn a great deal from them, and I am uplifted by them. I am grateful to Hank and John and their guests; good men all. The scriptures are full of politics and the politicking of secret combinations. We cannot, at least I cannot separate the gospel and politics. They each inform the other. Our lives are dominated by both. Thank you for the reference to Elder Renlund's talk - I will check it out.
