As well as interacting with keynote speakers in Antwerp (May 21 2024) who lead the semiconductor world this week, we were eager to talk with imec.xpand, to understand how imec interacts with startups and scaleups. You may remember the critical commentary from investors like Michael Jackson, speaking at PIC Summit Europe last year (lnkd.in/dn2XKu2K), who noted that many regional funds are driven by location. If you are not physically located in their area, then no funds for you!
imec.xpand has a different approach, investing in companies in 6 European countries, the US and beyond. We had a chance to hear the strategy and the results from imec.xpand co-founder Peter Vanbekbergen. They recently announced a new fund of 300 million Euro. So what kind of technology are they looking for? In this interview, Peter mentions PsiQuantum, Celestial AI, MICLEDI microdisplays, Pulsify Medical and Optalysys, among others. We’re also delighted that imec president Luc Van den hove will give a keynote in Malaga, where we hope to learn about imec’s plans for manufacturing in that part of southern Spain. Onward!
