Please browse the website where all these detailsare written. All blades and metallic parts (bolsters, liners, springs..) are made in Thiers - France. They are laser cut from the various steels we are using including RWL34 (CPM), 14C28N, XC75 carbon steel and so on. Our knives are 100% made in France :)
I love the knife I bought and deeply admire the workmanship. However, where are the safety glasses, gloves, safety tools etc? Band saws and grinders are dangerous! How many fingers or eyes have been hurt or worse in the workshop during the last 10 years? There seems to be a lot of room for improvement of the safety culture...
Agree with you concerning the glasses. But of course nobody with a brain uses gloves with fast rotating machinery - without gloves you may loose a fingertip, with a glove it may be a finger, or even more than one.
Probably few, if any, beyond the normal bumps and bruises you get when you work for a living. If you actually worked around machinery instead of complaining about those that do, you might understand this. Safety goggles suck, they fog up and obstruct your vision, causing more injuries than they prevent. The only eye injury I ever had was while wearing safety goggles. If I hadn't have been wearing them then my eyelids would have done their job and shut automatically. Safety goggles are great if you are working with something that could possibly go through an eyelid and damage your eyeball, but not a low-speed grinding wheel like here. Those little bits of steel won't even mark an eyelid. These guys know exactly what they are doing, they've been working in this shop almost 100 years. This work is quite safe.
I have the laguoile en aubrac, fordge de laguiole, and a laguiole from fontanille patud...and BY FAR the fontanille patud is the best of those three. Laguiole en aubrac and fordge de laguiole are poor quality and no where near the fontanille patud. Don't waste money on the later two for the same amount you can get a fontanille patud and have a much higher quality product
My Gosh! No gloves or eye protection when using grinding wheels; fingers running millimetres away from bandsaws. Unbelievably poor health and safety. Just downright dangerous.
