I would like to thank Fonterra taking the right approach and managing this issue through awareness. Many other companies are using Seeing Machine Cameras which do not work to the point they are a fail and those companies using are solely doing it to get cheaper insurance. Most haven't even researched it on behalf of their drivers let alone implemented any form of protocol which is disgraceful to say the least and part of the reason to why our industry is going backwards. If our industry has reached the point that we need a device to tell us we are falling asleep then we have misunderstood the roots to the coarse. Myself personally have been on the line now in my thirty seventh year and have not just used this gimmick but spent eight months researching it to the point it needs to be outlawed because it is seriously a potential health and safety issue. Other problem this camera has is it putting our drivers privacy rights at risk by forcing them to sign those rights away something that the privacy act was designed for to protect individuals rights. Good on you Fonterra for that but id like to ask your company a question if i may. Why do you promote no CB's in your trucks? I've been told that your management see them as a distraction is this true. Id like those that implemented this policy to consider what it would be like sitting at Heathrow airport in a plane without any communication with the control tower and if they would be happy to let the pilot take off or land when he feels. If your ever driven roads like the Lewis and others with high number of blind bends drivers can come across multiple of issues fallen rocks, trees but even worse broken down vehicle or at least push bikes on already narrow roads. Personally this is a safety tool something far to many drivers are not in trucks that have them. Our runways make Heathrow look like a walk in the park so imagine how long it would take if all pilots lost comm's for an accident to happen. If you you would like any finer details answered from what I've mentioned happy to help as this is just a summery. Thanks Fonterra.

Yep this is my 32nd year driving both NZ and OZ. I've done the 3 days 3 nights and three off. You don't get 3 days off as your actually working past midnight on your "first day" off when a sane person is asleep. Then you sleep all day on your first day off. I did this at Holcim Westport. Perhaps having fixed shift patterns. All days. Or all nights. So we don't walk around like zombies. You can adapt to night shift only. Camera's in trucks to watch your eyes close is stupid. They shouldn't ask people to drive in the first place. Perhaps over educated office idiots shouldn't be making the decisions. The drivers should. No matter what any company sais its all about the work getting done. We just a number. This so called safety talk is just a ploy to get bums in seats.
