@@noahcarvalho2105 As a Metal and Rock Drummer myself I grew up listening to Nirvana back in the early 90s and I still think Dave is a really good drummer.
@@LorneVignettes So insightful. 😂 I'm glad you're here to tell us these things!... Chewie! Take the professor in back and plug him into the hyperdrive!
It must be reinforced that this is Dave playing drums on this track. Dave was a much harder hitter than Taylor. But Taylor had a lot more finesse. Two brilliant drummers in one band.
It's amazing how musical this drum track is. How you can so easily tell where you are in the song from the drums alone. Makes it such a great drum track.
@@VierailevaTahti Example: At 2:46 you hear a loud snare hit followed by a faint (quieter) snare hit. That quieter hit is a ghost hit. He continues it through out that section of music.
If you listen to him play “big train” by Mike Watt, you definitely see on choruses and breakdowns, when he goes heavy on the ride he love those ghost notes on the snare
Dave always recorded drums first. Meaning that he used no click tracks or any other music coming through headphones. He is literally playing to a song in his head. His timing is un-human.
Dave's timing is always spot on. I'm a songwriter myself and although im not a drummer i always start with drums because it sets the tempo and acts like a click track.
Every time I heard this song, I found myself realizing more and more the amazing possibilities music has in store. Taylor Hawkins is the only drummer Dave Grohl believed was deserving of that spot for a reason, and I believe this set is their masterpiece. RIP Taylor Hawkins, you’ll be missed my many.
@@drummerdude476 Yeah, I think Taylor joined for the next album because they were looking for a replacement for the drummer they kicked out while they were recording this album.
M. Brian Dunson William Goldsmith was the Foo Fighters’ drummer when they they first recorded “The Colour and the Shape” but Dave didn’t like the drum parts William played so the band re-recorded the album with Dave on drums. William quit and Taylor left Alanis Morrisette’s band and joined FF in time to tour with the band to support the record.
I quit drumming for some ten years unti I joined a band asking me to learn this: challenging and rewarding. Great job Dave writing such a kicka55 track!
Hello I've waited here for you Everlong Tonight, I throw myself into And out of the red Out of her head, she sang Come down and waste away with me Down with me Slow, how you wanted it to be I'm over my head Out of her head, she sang And I wonder When I sing along with you If everything could ever be this real forever If anything could ever be this good again The only thing I'll ever ask of you You've got to promise not to stop when I say when She sang Breathe out So I can breathe you in Hold you in And now I know you've always been Out of your head Out of my head, I sang And I wonder When I sing along with you If everything could ever feel this real forever If anything could ever be this good again The only thing I'll ever ask of you You've got to promise not to stop when I say when She sang If everything could ever feel this real forever If anything could ever be this good again The only thing I'll ever ask of you You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
The hats on the intro sound like they were tracked separately. Im sure its together when played live. Just sounds like the hats are playing on the snare hit. At this tempo keeping the hats continuous with a snare would be next to impossible.
@@saftovooey4569 Right? 158bpm 16th note groove and keep the hi hat and snare hitting perfectly together? No human is gonna play a lefty hh triple, at that tempo, and sound this clean. Dave is great, but not immortal. Got to be a separate hh track at least for the verse.
Taylor seemed like a great guy and a perfectly fine drummer but if Dave could clone himself to play drums he would have. I hear Taylor's drums and that could be anybody, I hear Dave's drums and that could only be one man, him. People who haven't spent years analyzing rhythm and drum parts don't realize this but, Dave set the gold standard for contemporary rock drumming, everyone is trying to either sound like him or meet that level, I say this as a dude who isn't the biggest fan of his drum styles. But he and butch vig created the blueprint for contemporary rock drums
I always thought that Rock Band's chart of this was incorrect adding an extra hit on the and (or the a?) in the chorus. But I was proven wrong with those ghost notes being there that I never caught in the mix
Thank You for posting your videos! Your playlist is HUGE! Thank You! Covering this song live, *at the correct tempo*, is not easy. The constant 16th notes on the hats, plus the physical demands of moving the snare stick from hats to snare, all while lining up kick drum strikes with the hi-hat notes, and do it for 1:15 without any break. Yes, the DAW will fix most misalignments, etc., but it doesn't diminish how well Dave Grohl plays here. Future suggestions/wishes: "Gates of Delirium" - Yes, "Freewill" - Rush, "My Heart Declares A Holiday" - Bruford's Earthworks, "Some Like It Hot" - The Power Station, and the extremely great "Mosaique" - Gipsy Kings (with the awesome Claude Salmieri on drums). Thanks, again.
I have already published something on my second channel. "Freewill" - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z7kIuirixj4.html There are no other tracks in my collection yet, but I will take into account your wishes. Thanks for the comment.
This is perfect, a couple of friends and I are doing a cover of this song too. Definitely gives me an idea for how his fills are. Have you considered hysteria by muse possibly?
@@jallen911 I think that’s just a combination of the snare wires and the rimshots but hey, I don’t have the multitrack so how should I know lol. Amazing drum sound either way
I am still curious though... if you don‘t isolate the tracks... where do you get multitrack recordings from? Can those be purchased somewhere? No intent to compete with you, just curious...
