Food Ideas for a Long Train Journey (44 Hours on Amtrak in Coach) 

We freeze bottled water (4) to put in the bottom of our freezer bag. They stay frozen for quite a while, keeping everything cool. You can take them out to thaw, giving you fresh water.

Your so good with the snacks. Your so prepared

FYI - put peanut butter on the apple, it will be a meal unto itself, not to mention it's delicious. it's a go to at my house for my grandson!

Great ideas! I am traveling on the train for 20 hours and I was planning on bringing snacks. I try and eat healthy so I loved all your suggestions. The avocado idea is brilliant! I’m definitely doing that.

Instead of the cooler pack frozen waters bottles would be better and then you can drink them .

Jess, good video! You are very thorough, and your planned food ideas should be more than enough to get you to Reno. You mentioned that you like to eat a lot, and we can see that. Now I see that your post is two years old, so I guess your trip has long been completed.

That seems like enough food for four or five days easily.

We are doing an overnight. Good ideas.

I travel on Amtrak every year we only on train 24 hours we always take the morning train from New Jersey to Orlando we pack just enough to sustain us till morning we always leave around 11 so we pack a lunch and drinks like a foot long from subway I’ll eat half and save other half for dinner if I don’t want what’s on menu and we will snack on family pack of chips or cookies and next morning we will have breakfast onboard we usually get to Orlando around 10-11 am next day so by time we arrive our cooler is empty

Did you freeze the grapes to help keep things cold?

Individual protein shakes aren’t a bad idea either. They are better cold, but don’t have to be refrigerated

Was it enough food? Would you do it differently now?

boarding the train Wednesday at 5:30 am... will be stopping at trader joe's tomorrow (Tuesday) for 96% of your ideas... I just am not a huge fan of avacados.....

Silverware may be prohibited by Amtrak.
