Reminds me of those himalayan salt lamps that were really popular... and then one lady posted on facebook that her cat kept licking the lamp and warned everyone not to get those lamps because her cat almost didn't make it out. Would you perhaps do a video on random objects that aren't good around cats? For example, essential oils or certain cleaning agents?
Lavender kills cats. I used to use a lot of lavender until it killed my last cat. Before I got my Misser Kiddy, I got rid of all of it. It works wonderfully on humans for relaxing, but I am not chancing it.
@Rayna Bananas, thank you. It was a few years ago so I’m better. I just wish that it was something I knew before hand. Everything I have around Misser Kiddy, I google it first. I am super cautious about oils and food. Tomatos were left off the list and I hear that is super bad for cats as well.
I have one of those salt lamps (I don’t have a cat yet but I’m going to adopt soon) and I’m selling the lamp. The other things I have heard are bad for cats and I think also dogs is incense and candles. Even if they stay away from the burning candle, what the candle releases into the air is bad for them to breathe in.
Nope. the dislike is due to this mans' cultural ignorance. He should go to Cuba. Cats over there eat all of this and other things , yet still live pass 16 and 18 years of age without any problems. This is a diet problem for spoiled shitty Americanized cats.
Juci Shockwave Dude. Just chill, ok? Like please calm down. Maybe get off the internet, breathe and come back :) There are so many calmer ways you could have said that. 👍 Maybe instead of attacking people and cats, show us some statistics? That would be very helpful!
Juci Shockwave yo wtf?? Are you okay??? Like can you be kinder about it instead of insulting American cats like they can control that?? Why are you so hostile about it? Do you think the general public wanted that???? You should have explained in a better way. I don’t know what personal resentment you have against different lifestyles, but if there was a serious issue you should have said it without calling someone’s lifestyle “spoiled”. Imagine directing that energy towards a kid instead of a cat. “Kids in other countries can eat anything, it’s a diet problem for spoiled shitty Americanized children”. That’s a horrible thing to say. It’s their environment, not them. Calm tf down.
My tomcat could eat anything: cake,French fries, bread, ice cream... It used to make me laugh, but I am going to be more careful from now on. Thanks for the reminder Jackson.
@@allaboutmycats454 Actually humans and cats will desire french fries, ice cream, cake and bread no matter if they are "getting what they need" in their diet.
Honestly I'm fearful that I'm feeding my cat & kitten the wrong brand and kinds of cat foods, and that I'm over feeding them..I just want them to be healthy and live a long happy healthy life full of love and play 🐾❤😺

I saw a picture of some insta famous cat licking a beer bottle and was so shocked and worried that so many people are going to see that and think it's ok
Our cat Hannibal adored mango but mostly papaya. We lived in Puerto Rico and so had fresh, wild fruit in the yard. We eventually had little papaya starts under the railing where he ate. He was also a prolific hunter!
I would remind people who have houseplants and/or flowers around to know what they are as cats can get poisoned if they eat the wrong plant, especially poinsettia. Cat grass and rosemary are a couple good plants to have that won't cause an emergency trip to the vet.
My cat (16 yrs), is a coconut oil addict. He has a little bit morning and evening and I noticed an improvement in his mobility and tremors as a result. A Google search indicated it was okay in small doses, but I wish there was a more in-depth study on it.
When sharing food, I usually just give a chunk of unseasoned meat from what I've cooked: chicken, salmon, etc. Some of my cats go crazy for milk, ice cream, and simple cheeses like provolone, but that's very sparingly.
Im always telling my friends milk is bad for em and ofc they never believe me. Will have to remember this video so i can give em a reference next time.
Milk isn't bad for humans unless they're lactose intolerant (like me), in which case they (and their cats) can enjoy lactose-free dairy products or their substitutes.
Before I watched this, i would always rinse plates, cups, bowls, and whatnot in the sink to make sure my kitties wouldn't ingest anything they shouldnt have.
I'm lactose intolerant too and one time my lil kitty tried my almond milk which freaked me out because they can't have or at a minimum amount she threw up as if she was a sprinkler...luckily she was ok but I was freaked out
@Bety Melba we used hills but there's few other brands that have more natural foods that's easier to chew for some cats but we we're lucky that our cat was able to still chew dry foods for if you really want to go for the all natural diet like jackson said he prefers there's some brands who specializes in basically selling raw like meat some with extra proteins
@Bety Melba what is that supposed to mean? This cat has been through more by my side than any person has. The death of my sister, my fiance, and a lot of trauma. I would never get bored of her.
My cat likes to sniff our food sometimes. We always are ready to shoo her away if she starts eating something she’s not supposed to. Usually she just sniffs it and leaves it… unless it’s eggs
I'm still stumped over why my youngest cat, Skywarp, stealing my bananas. He's also tried stealing potatoes. He recently climbed me to get at my piece of honeydew. My two eldest want nothing to do human food, not even the occasional bowel with drained tuna water. I'm rather confused.
@@toriless The key term is "trying to get my food" You are jumping to conclusions in assuming I let them. You seem to have missed the humorous point of the tenacity of pets trying to get into food ;) What is your primary language, maybe there was a linguistic misunderstanding?
Here's a fun fact: milk, in its raw state, is pretty low in lactose! The reason most milk has lactose is bc of the pasteurization process. High heat from that process destroys the natural lactase enzymes that occur in milk to get rid of the lactose, so after you pasteurize milk, you're left with the lactose, but no enzymes to get rid of it!
@@shimmerwolfarts thanks, this makes sense now as one of mums friends grew up on a farm and always said milk wasn't bad for cats as their farm cats used to lick it up from the cows being milked, obviously what they were drinking wasn't too bad.
We also found out that Dasani bottled water was a no no because it started to cause kidney failure in my cat. But when we switched to well water, she recovered.
Also re:stimulants, if you're on adderall, keep that shit on lock at all times. My pharmacy used to put mine in a blister pack...and one of the cats got into my backpack and started biting at the package trying to get at the adderall!(she doesn't normally bite packages. luckily we caught her before she got through!) Apparently they /actually like the taste/ of it, so don't think they won't try and get at it.
My cat is so finicky that she will only eat fish meals like Tuna and salmon, white fish. She lives fresh Spinach and greens. She only wants Fancy Feast Paté and it has to be fish! She won't touch chicken or other meats🐈⬛ What's a mother to do?😮
Onion & garlic should probably not be on the "absolutely toxic for cats" list. So many stray and semi-domestic cats around the world (especially in Asia) eat food containing small (and not-so-small) amounts of cooked onion and/or garlic, day in and day out, and they're doing pretty damn fine -- provided they get enough fatty & protein-rich food as a whole. This should be on the "bad if too much" list instead.
I think that line of thinking is very irresponsible and also selfish. They eat the food because they have to eat and have nothing else being stray and starving. You're not supposed to give cooked human food as is to cats. Chicken from stirfry? From soup? From curry? Wash that shit before you give them to cats! Oily fried rice? Please don't give them that... also even if they are forced to eat it, cats wouldn't bite into onions or garlic. It's not something they can eat. Trace is fine, like how if you're starving you'd eat a piece of chicken that fell in the mud, but you wouldn't eat mud.
@@hyschara _"They eat [human cooked] food because they have to eat and have nothing else being stray and starving."_ You either have VERY little experience with even well-fed and cared-of cats given such opportunity, or you chugged down your gallon of pet food industry Koolaid in one go. :shrugs: _"Trace is fine, like how if you're starving you'd eat a piece of chicken that fell in the mud, but you wouldn't eat mud."_ So... *is mud generally highly toxic to humans?* If it's not, then... you just fully confirmed my whole point? Xylitol isn't an artificial sweeter, though. It's a natural sugar alcohol found in lots ot plants and most often harvested from birch trees and spent corn stalks. Which is not to say that cats should eat it. They shouldn't.
My cat is very curious what I am eating or what I prepair for dinner. So I let him smell small pieces of diffrent veggies or meat but not letting him taste. How ever one time I was making grilled cheese so I let him smell some cheese and his claws was wraped around my hand like a bear trap and he ate the cheese that floofy a-hole. Later that day his poo was very wet muddy like and it was all over his hind legs and tail and every where else because he did not know what caught in him and he got scared and run around. I rarely make anything with cheese anymore because he goes "crazy" when he smells or hears cheese and he denies that he is an addict and has a cheese problem. It only takes a small amount from thier diet to upset thier stomach and long time to clean and waiting to see if it got better with the thoughts in yout head "did I just doomed my cat". How three days later his poop was more solid and "normal". just wanted to share
I'm curious about the caffeine part. A vet prescribed Zylkene for my fear-aggressive rescue cat for bonfire night, which is said to mimic the mothers milk and is a feel good type of thing rather than a drug, but I understood it had caffeine in it, although I may be wrong, so I'd be interested to know as this was vet prescribed.
Ok, question. Say you've cooked up some meat seasoned with onion and garlic, powdered or fresh, and your cat steals a bit off your plate, runs off to their hiding spot, and eats it. How concerned should you be? And no, this is not a "Secretly my cat just did this and I need to know now" comment. I just thought of it while I was watching.
Go look at the video upload list on this channel. He did. He also did another for holiday hazards that covers plants for THAT season and other issues as well.
My kitty is always very interested when I drink milk. I’ve only recently started drinking milk again. I didn’t for decades. I will occasionally pour about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon into my cupped palm and let her drink it. It’s an occasional treat for her.
Now this is weird. My Mum used to give the cats a tiny saucer of milk each day. My childhood pet cat lived tp 18! Must have been the exception to the rule. Then my sister's cat needed daily medicine and the only way we could get it to take the tablet was to hide it in a sultana which that cat went mad for. Strange, ay?
The actual ingredient in chocolate that is toxic to cats and dogs is theobromine, a caffeine analog, which is present in chocolate whether it contains xylitol or not. It is what gives chocolate its bitter taste. The darker the chocolate the more theobromine and the more toxic it is. As for raw fish the reason it is questionable even in humans is because it contains an enzyme called thiaminase which breaks down thiamine (B1) and renders it useless. A thiamine deficiency in cats will cause loss of appetite along with malassimilation or malabsorption of nutrients. Most humans are supplement junkies (myself included) so we compensate for vitamin deficiencies with vitamin supplements. And, as implied in the video, a cat in the wild gets more than just raw meat from prey so anyone who wants to feed their companion raw meat should consult with an expert on how to create a raw diet for their cat. As for balls of meat, it sounds so much better when they are called meatballs. LOL
Had a cat who stole the rest of o Sam Adams Winter (got up to use bathroom, came back, he'd knocked it over and was licking it up... Same cat I found with his head in a cup of black coffee, drinking it🤦
Oh crap!! What about nutritional yeast? Do you know those yellow flaky things? I sprinkle that on my cat food often. I picked it up from a roommate who said it was very nutritional. And cats always seem to like it but that is not good for them please let me know. Thanks for your work.
every time i tell my mom the cat can’t have a certain food she always pulls up the “but the cats where i lived ate anything” maybe bc those cats are strays and hungry so they eat anything to survive😐
Same but instead of my mom it’s my sister I told her if you got a baby you don’t feed it left overs you feed it baby food so it’s the same with cats they eat cat food 👁👄👁
@@Momma_AL The ASPCA lists plants and foods that are toxic to animals. It's how I learned it's OK to indulge my Tommy's desire for roasted bell peppers. He thinks if I eat anything then he should get a share of it.
yeah I have potted English ivy and I heard it can be toxic to cats, and I also have like 5 other types of plants so I'd really want to know before I go and adopt. I've been wanting another cat for 8 years, since I had to leave my last one with my ex, but I've gotten many plants since. I'm ready to throw away my plants and buy new ones if necessary.
@Marc-André Demers: Hopefully you won’t have to throw out those poor plants (unless they’re infested, then, by all means give them a little funeral, maybe play a dirge and call it a day.) Their green leafy lives matter too! 🌱 (No doubt I’ll get some backlash for that one 😬). Maybe they can be re-homed. Nevertheless, it’s a good thing you’re looking into this now before it’s too late. Best of luck for when you find your new furry feline friend. 😻
@@suzannebowers8634 yeah I hate killing plants lol but most people I know already have many. And I've got a couple spider mites that are in control here but could totally infest and devour the rest of the plants of the person I'd give them to. Giving and buying plants when you already have some is extremely risky if you don't have the space to quarantine the new ones and the knowledge to ensure they're not carrying something that could exterminate the others. I've seen it happen way too many times.
Just about any lily is not good, Day Lilies are fine for dogs but not cat and Foxgloves kill either, maybe even horses. Hostas are pretty common shade plants but I have mine where no cats ever goes and I have some strange cat wondering through every night, on the security video, and they never go there.
Lillies are EXTREMELY deadly to cats. It almost kills instantly. Most vets who have seen Lilly poisoning have never seen a cat live from it. So I would keep lillies out of my place (I personally think they are ugly anyway).
Mikaila Bell Well yes, but this video was about _foods_ that are toxic (meaning human foods), not about toxic houseplants. You don’t eat your lilies, do you? Right? :p
It takes about 12 hours for the effects of lily poisoning to kick in. If they get treated before then, they have a high chance of survival. My cat experienced lily poisoning a few months ago; I got him to the vet about two hours after the poisoning and he was completely fine. But you definitely don’t want to have lilies around if you have a cat. I learned the hard way!
My beautiful boy: Mother please spare me some of your food I am ever so curious and would love to try some Me, staring at a chicken thigh covered in 11 herbs and spices that's probably wreaking havoc to my own digestive and circulatory system: No sweetie eat your own food
there is a milk commercial on now that espouses "even kitties love it!!" and showing a cat begging at the fridge door ... it drives me crazy that they (the Milk Board) would advertise something that is dangerous to cats just to promote milk =/
I bought some of that Whiskas cat milk, thinking "Maybe my cat will like it, as a treat". She hated it. My old cat used to love chocolate milk, but he would only get a tablespoon of it when I was having some. This was back in the very early 00s so everyone were uneducated about cats. My current cat LOVES pancakes (the european kind). It's her favourite food and she won't leave me alone when I'm eating it (which is very rare, thankfully). She'll paw at my mouth and things like that. I do give her a tiny bit but not much. I just pinch off a little bit. I have no idea why she loves pancakes so much.
I had to pull dozens of pretty yellow day lilies from the back yard that the previous own left. I put a few out front where the cat never go. Cats always have a specific path they take through the front yard.
I have asian lilley's growing outside and garlic, my cat does not go near them. Pretty sure if they haven't been in a house their whole life they know what's good or not, plus u don't see cats eat plants unless their stomach is upset or they desperately need something in their diet. On the other hand, I did have to bury a dead bat 🦇 she had on the porch this morning. it's usually bird feathers (cause she eats the birds.. taste like chicken) or mice or a chipmunk. She will trade them for temptations treats. I am 99% sure they're kitty crack.
Same here! It honestly makes me angry when other vegans try to make their cats eat vegan too. Makes me want to shake them. They're obligate carnivores!!! Stop it!!! If you want a vegan pet, get a guinea pig! 😂
Agreed! Cats need to eat meat, they will die or get sick from malnutrition if on a vegan diet. I have nothing against vegans, however, I am against vegans who do not feed their pets what they are supposed to eat. A cat's body cannot get all the nutrition they need from plants.
I don't know where the "cat drinks milk" stereotype came from, but it's so annoying. My parents insisted on giving my kittens milk, no matter how much I told them that cat's can't drink it, yet they were like "but cats drink milk, everyone knows that"! I had to look it up on google and show it to them before they were convinced xD Anyway, great video, your channel has been really useful to me. Also, I had no idea tuna had mercury! Though I did know that cats had to eat a different kind of tuna than humans.
Muhammad Zazuli Rizki that's understandable. As much as I can criticize others, to be honest I also used to believe that milk was good for cats. And yeah, it was mostly because of Tom & Jerry in my case too, along with other animated shows and movies.

There are so many great videos by Jackson Galaxy. I have owned cats most of my life but I am still learning and Jackson's videos have taught me so much!

This is great! I'd love to see a video on toxic plants, both indoor and outdoor (since I walk my boy on a leash). I recently had a friend almost lose her cat because it ingested just a little pollen from a specific kind of lily and that was how I found out that lilies are insanely toxic to cats. Then there are a lot of other common plants that appear to be toxic but only if the cat actually eats the leaves (so probably fine as long as you don't keep them indoors)... anyway, I would really love to see something more in-depth on this so that I know what I should be doing when I take my guy for walks.
@@thecatlady2710 I'm so glad you didn't lose him! It was scary for me to realize I didn't know more about toxic plants + cats, I definitely think it would be a useful topic.

Cats are the perfect representation of someone who is lactose intolerant. I've never met someone who was lactose intolerant and wasn't prepared to risk it all for some cheesy goodness. Likewise, I've never met a cat who didn't try to steal any dairy products when presented with the opportunity. One even tried to jump on the table to lick the butter once.
I'm lactose intolerant and I resemble that. Though, thankfully, I can eat reasonable amounts of most cheeses without issue. Or ice cream. Never, ever cheese followed by ice cream. And never straight milk.
I'm lactose intolersnt and I've learned to live with dairy free alternatives. I've begun to love the taste of my plant milk in my coffee more than I ever loved cow's milk :) only thing I haven't given up is mozzarrella on my pizza cause there's no worthy alternative yet
My god yes. I have 2 cats and one is, thankfully, super picky and doesn't care about most people food. But the other is like a feline garbage disposal and will eat nearly anything. He goes INSANE for cheese. Any dairy product, really, but especially cheese.
I just buy lactase enzyme drops and put them into milk, then let it activate for 24 hours before drinking the milk. It's pretty cheap on Amazon. You can also make your own yogourt and ice cream (and cheese if you're motivated) from milk and cream you've treated that way. I wonder if that milk could serve as an occasional treat for cats, or to moisten dry food for a cat who needs it.
This is just the right place to drop this information . A lady was using a joint pain cream , " Voltaren - Gei 10 % ' . It contains Dicdofenac and Flurbiproten . She had about 6 cats that often sat on her lap . They got some of this cream on their fur while playing , and later licked it off , Al but one cat died , A Vet confirmed it was this cream .
Purrfect place for that warning!!! I use that for my hand pain. My cats are attracted to it & try to lick my hands afterwards. I was worried it would be harmful so I luckily haven't let them. After 10 minutes from applying it, you can wear gloves, so I do. Then it can be washed off after 1 hour. I'll let others know about this from now on. Had never heard of this medicine until it was prescribed to me. Now I'm finding lots of people who use it when I apply it in public. It's truly a miracle drug for arthritic hands!!! Nothing else has ever given me relief, not even the morphine when I was hospitalized after major surgery, my hands still ached. Thank you soo much for sharing this information!!! 😻 I always read the information sheets included from the manufacturers. This does not have any warnings of it's toxicity to pets. Guess none actually do that, but I think it would be wonderful if they did. Glad I followed my instincts!
We learned about the grapes being toxic when we almost lost our cat Gizimo after she ate about a dozen from our son snack plate while no one was looking. She is still around but has had liver issues ever since. And has recently gone blind. She is still very active and loving.
I would love to hear more about the raw food diet and I would love to hear your opinion on how to help an overweight cat lose weight when all other options have been exhausted. Thanks Cat Daddy!
making it lose weight is easy. buy chicken breast fillets, cut them in pieces that are at about the weight of a small bird and give one piece in the morning and one in the evening raw and have the cat play a lot. no other food, no treats, and ignore any begging. you should add a piece of another type of meat at about the same size every other day for some extra nutrients. cats can survive for a long time with nothing but a single mouse or sparrow a day as food so this amount is more than enough if you get your fat cat to burn the stored fat through exercise.
jpteknoman I agree with most of your comment, however feeding a cat raw meat is not as simple as giving them pieces of chicken breast. The food needs to be complete and balanced. If you think about it, a mouse that a cat would eat has bones and organs. As a general rule, feeding a cat raw meals should include 80% muscle meat, 10% organs and 10% bones. It is not healthy to feed cats non-complete and non-balanced meals.
dorenX when my cat catches a mouse, she eats the head first. Gross to listen to, but hey, I figure that’s intuitive, AND. keeps the mouse from ‘playing dead’ and running away when the cat starts to lose interest!🙀😹🤷🏻♀️
Hawkorvan shut up stuped. u sound like a five year old kid trying to be cool, wtf? what do cats eat in the wild? fcking man made food? think before you type, raw food is the best for cats.
Most of my cats have been strays and they had absolutely no interest in chocolate, caffeine, vegetables or fruit. Fruit and vegetables were only of interest to them when they were round and could be played with. I wound up adopting my little bar-fly and kept him on the wagon for the 15 years that he lived.

@@mandiwhite4190 There is a company that sells raw meat for raw home diets. If you do a google search you should be able to find it, but they use cage free chickens from local farms, rabbits, duck, pheasant, ect. The only meat I would not give a cat is pork. if under cooked you can risk the chance of them getting a parasite, but there has been no reported cases of the parasite in many many years. So just do research and go with what you think is best based on the information you can find. Don't listen to vegan "experts" when it comes to feeding pets.
Thanks Jackson.. my brother bought vitamin pills for my cats, which the main ingredients are yeast, garlic, thiamine and etc.. yup that'll go in the trash bin right now..
I'm not dumb, I actually love veggies too but I choose to eat meat as well. It doesn't make me ignorant, it make me someone who has the choice of what I ingest. You do you, Beau boo.
@Anonny Moose Long ago my ancestors hunted, and when they did they ate not just to survive but they made sure every part of the animal was used. We thanked it for giving its life so we may survive. We thanked Mother Earth for the vegetables we ate. We thanked Father Sky for the air we breathed, and the waters which replenished our bodies. I never waste food, I eat till my fill and no more. I give thanks to the Creator for what I have every day. I respect all things. Life is filled with Balance. It is a necessary thing. Without it nature becomes imbalanced and we suffer for it. The same question can apply to the grain and wheat, potatoes and corn we harvest. What right do we have to just take what Mother Earth provides? It is balance. Things must die so other things can grow, renew. That is how it has always been.
common sense has always made me laugh when i would hear a "vet" say you need to cook poultry, fish, whatever, to human standards. meanwhile, my cat is on my back porch devouring a dead rat, nose to asshole, and everything in between. The point about raw meat is that, yes, cat's can absolutely eat raw meat that's very very fresh, as in a prey that they've just newly killed, but raw meat that's given by a human is a completely different story. Raw meat given by a human has had time to develop all sorts of bacteria, it's not the same as a very fresh kill.
Yeah, raw meat that's been processed by humans is way different from raw meat from a mouse they've just caught. Hell, we could safely eat significantly more raw meat if it was ultra fresh
The reason we cook meat is because it kills parasites, and humans that didn’t get parasites from eating raw meat tended to pass their genes on to more surviving offspring. Our ancestors have been cooking meat since prehistory. It has nothing to do with processing. Cats never stopped eating raw meat in their evolution. Until very recently, they ate rodents, insects, and birds along with human food scraps. Their guys can handle things we can’t. Domestic meat animals in developed countries rarely have the types of endoparasites and pathogens they used to, and humans still contract food borne illnesses mostly from contaminated produce and mishandled poultry. If anything, I suspect the reason not to give cats raw meat like beef or pork is because those aren’t meats cats evolved to eat. House cats didn’t take down pigs or cattle. They’re too rich and fatty. Similarly, you shouldn’t feed beef to Venus flytrap. It’s too rich for them, and the traps rot. I had one that ate buffalo wing meat, though.
Evil Sharkey What do you mean “until very recently”? Cats still eat rodents, insects, birds (and other critters, too, like rabbits (which aren’t actually rodents!), reptiles, fish, and amphibians). Cats worldwide, even in western countries, kill billions of songbirds every year. They do this even if they have food at home, since cats have a strong hunting instinct.
@@tookitogo I can testify! I get dead little birds on the porch and little lizards partially eaten. Cats are hunters. Dogs can be, too. If I yell "get the bug!" all the beasts come running. P. S. I do not use pesticides in my home!

@@outlawtornuk666 I feel like I've never seen a lactose intolerant cat in my life, but I try not to give my cat milk unless she asks for it, which is rare, and she doesn't have problems afterwards, but I'm always on the lookout. But I also feel like cats can actually be mutating towards being able to digest milk, since I really have seen a few cats in my life and all of them were fine with milk and didn't have any issues after drinking it. Although they definitely prefer water, and I always have fresh water available for my cat
I don't think it's technically "toxic" but will give your cat an upset stomach. Straight up milk is always a no-no but cheese or yogurt have considerably less lactose and can be given as a treat in moderation depending on your cat.
Thank you so much!! So many people confuse "unhealthy" with "Dangerous" Some things as a once in a while treat are ok! Its just like humans, we can eat a peice of cake on occasion without fear of destroying our livers :P (im not saying cats should eat cake lol)
Thanks for this. My cat has pica and will eat literally anything, so I have to be very careful. I'd love to see a video about pica and how to keep cats with pica safe.
I had a Siamese that would eat the sleeves of sweaters and the cuffs of socks... apparently this is very common...especially in the males. Breeders call them "Wool eaters" although mine was just as happy with nice polyester!
I switched my cat to an all raw meat diet and her digestive issues have pretty much disappeared. She had such horrid flatulence and extremely stinking feces. Now I smell nothing fowl in her box and her indigestion has stopped. She loves it and she looks and acts like a kitten again. Her fur is so soft and vibrant. I love how much better the house smells too. Lol
i know it’s just a computer spelling thing, but when you said your house no longer smells fowl, i almost lost it, it was so funny. you mean you also had chickens and turkeys running around your house? whew, glad you put them outside. now you and your kitty can live in peace. LOL so glad your cat is so much better :) 🐈🐾🐈⬛🌷🌱
Clearly, giving them what their ancestors ate, raw meat, is going to be the best. I buy ground meat (that includes organ meat) that's specially prepared for cats and then mix in the recommended supplements. If you can't do that, for whatever reason, the next best thing is going to be freeze-dried versions that you reconstitute. And after that is commercial canned food that had zero fillers like potatoes, cranberries, etc. (Just because it says "grain free" doesn't mean it's not full of plant based foods that cats can't digest.) Ingredients to steer clear of include meat byproducts and rendered fat. (These are everything that gets discarded when manufacturing meat for human consumption) A quality canned food will have the first 5 ingredients be whole ingredients like chicken, liver, duck, rabbit, etc. There's debate about the safety of carageenan and guar gum/guaran in cats. You'll have to decide for yourself if you want to avoid it or not. The only hard and fast rule about what to feed your cat I would suggest every cat owner follow is do not make dry food their primary food. Cats do not posses a strong thirst deive like dogs and humans do. They've evolved to get the majority of their fluids from the meat they eat. Cats that are only fed dry food have been found to be chronically dehydrated and have much higher incidence of urinary and kidney problems. My parent's cat had suffered from cystitis and regular UTIs, even after being put on a "prescription" food. (Prescription pet foods are a gimmick. There is no special criteria or oversight that a company has to comply with call their food a "prescription." The only difference is the price and where they're sold.) A few weeks after switching her to wet canned food, the problem disappeared. It's been 6 or 7 years and she hasn't had a single problem since. We still give them some dry food to munch on if they get hungry between meal times, but it's limited to 1/2-3/4 cup per day. I'm on mobile at the moment but can post links later to all the resources I've scoured and follow for my own cats' nutrition. They're all written by DVMs and one comes from someone who worked for Menu Foods (the makers of Iams, Science Diet, Royal Canine, Pedigree, etc.)
@@KirstenMarie_MS3 Hi. Thank you for all the information. My son has cats & one always has a runny stools & I've suggested after some research that he try changing them over to a raw diet specially produced for cats. I'm working on getting him to do it. Also thinking of changing my dog to a raw diet as the benefits are amazing so I've read. Appreciate you taking the time to write out all that information, so thank you again, much appreciated 😊
