Great job on the comparison, and demo's of both machines. I've worn out several food saver machines over the years, and found your video while digging up info on the VP215. Just ordered the 215. Well done.

After several foodsavers, spending over $200.00 for the last one which lasted only a year, was enough. Bought a chamber sealer (AvidArmor VSV20) for just a few dollars more and swear by it. I make a lot of sauces and the chamber sealer does it with ease - using the foodsaver you had to put the sauce in a sealer bag, fold it and place it in the freezer overnight before I could seal it. Wish I would have purchased a chamber sealer a long time ago. Great video thank you for posting .
Robert Campbell The Avid Armor units look pretty good. I have not tried them yet. One thing I do know is once you get a chamber model, you'll never want to go back to the external machines! Initially I wasn’t sure about the quality of the review I was gonna get from this guy. He just looked really amateur but I was totally wrong in my initial assessment. The review and comparison he offered was very informative.
@patrickkelly8095 well...I am really amateur haha. But I think that's what makes for good reviews. They are coming from real people who actually use the products just like anyone else would. Great video. Just ordered the VP220 was gonna do the 215 but 220&230 was 30% off. And 230 was out of stock, so ordered the 220 from vacmaster $875 total price. Looking forward to using it. Love my food saver but sometimes with wet meats I will go through multiple bags before getting a seal.

This is a much better assessment of what a FoodSaver can do. I just learned that any chamber vacuum sealer is never going to be perfect, and maybe I am best off keeping the VP120 I already have, since it seems to be doing just as well as the VP215 in this video. I think for long term preservation, sealing and then freezing in a chamber vacuum sealer is a good first step, then transfer that item to the textured bag and use the external vacuum sealer is the best method for long-term freezer storage. That's the method I am using currently, until I can one day find a chamber vacuum sealer that works better than the one I have now.
cnnw3929 I've been pretty happy with the VP215. It pulls down hard, even with wet meats and fish, and as long as the bag does not get punctured I'm having last 2 years easily. THat's about as long as anything stays in my freezer and even then it's usually an accident if it stays that long haha. Thank you for watching. As an American of Sicilian decent, one of these is such a great investment. I can "maka da sauce" and vac seal it flat and freeze it. The savings are great, you can go to smart food service or another restaurant supply and buy a whole rib eye uncut. Bring it home, cut into steaks and deep freeze in a chest freezer, saves a ton of money. I buy grass fed cows from a friend and have them butchered and use this method.

I have purchased several food savers over the years and they all get screwed up because a little liquid gets in the pump. food saver pumps are very small and if you get and king of liquid you have to open it up and completely clean it out. I just bought a chamber vac and comparing the pumps is like comparing a lawnmower engine to a formula one racer. One thing I found out about a food saver years ago. You can put you firearms in long term storage with black gardening cover , a little oil and zip the thing up and seal it three times. I had three hand guns and they had been sealed for almost twenty five years. there is not a speck of anything anywhere. Short of wrapping your entire firearm with creoseal I don't think you have a chance of sealing your gun for 25 years. Because the food master has no length limitations firearms up for long storage.
If you use heavy pouches, and/or the anti puncture sheets and an oxygen absorbing packet you can seal up guns and they should be perfect virtually forever! (Along with anything else you might be concerned about rusting during long term storage.)
Fish and Beer Thanks man, it keeps evolving too as we seem to be adding gear every year! Those Chamber sealers are awesome. Once you have one, you'll never go back to the external models. Thanks for the video. We've used the same FoodSaver Vac for over 20 years with NO issues and I believe we spent less than $100 for it. The VacMaster is 7 to 10 times the cost of the FoodSaver. The research I've done on both of these vacuum machines indicates that the FoodSaver far exceeds the reliability of the VacMaster. The other considerations are the hefty costs of the FoodSaver bags, but you would have to seal roughly 2,000 bags with the FoodSaver before justifying the purchase of a VacMaster. If you sealed 5-10 bags a week, it would take you over 5 years before you broke even. And that's assuming the VacMaster lasted the 5+ years. I personally like the advantages of the VacMaster regarding the sealing of soups and other things that the FoodSaver can't do as well, but I find it hard to reconcile the additional $750 to $1000 just to seal a bag of chicken soup....but that's just me...
I get it for sure. (Although my foodsaver is my 3rd one!) I do a lot of fish too. (Wet) Never had much luck with the foodsaver for that unless I freeze first and makes me have to come back the next day to seal. That was the main reason I wanted to go with a chamber machine. For me it was more about convenience and frustration than money. I definitely understand why someone would stick with a foodsaver if they didn't need to do a lot of wet things. (And yes I tried the paper towel trick and about every other one) I figure, heck, you only live once, might have a few nice things. :-)
@@scottnra Different topic all together, but what system do you use to hold your fishing rods vertical, there in the background? Thanks in advance as well; I've been racking my brain over the many different variations I could use and like how yours aren't being held by pvc.
Mark D we've got one of the vacmasters and it's been running strong for well over 5 years. I burnt up three food savers in the 8 to 10 years prior to that. I find the people who push for the FoodSaver being a good value and still worth buying have never tried the chamber vac systems on the market. If they had that FoodSaver would be in the next garage sale. I guarantee it. Here in Alaska we do tons of Fish and game and we've run literally thousands of pounds of fish through our vacmaster without issue. I've had sessions where I vacuum packed over 220 pounds of fish and the only time I stopped was to pull a bag out and put another one in as fast as I possibly could. You would never do that with a FoodSaver. Every 5 to 10 bags you would have to take a break to let the machine cool down or you'll burn it up. Plus any moisture in the fish and you'll constantly be cleaning that trough or possibly ruining the vac motor. I'm guessing I would have spent several more hours just waiting on a FoodSaver to cool down during a big batch of fish. The chamber vac are definitely worth the extra money. If you're the kind of person who only does a couple of bags here and there then fine get what's cheap. But if you're a hunter, a fisherman, a prepper or just someone who does a lot of vac sealing in general you can't go wrong with the chamber machines. Are they worth the extra money? in my opinion they're worth more than the extra money you spend!

i think the vacuum chamber has one obvious limitation - the Foodsaver can suck air out of a very long bag, but the Vacumadter is limited to that 12:-14" length chamber.

Chamber seal machines make wet food so easy, with my Foodsaver it took awhile but I'm pretty consistent on knowing when to manually seal without making a mess or damaging the seal for wet items. Sadly, don't do enough sealing for a chamber machines
AJ They do cost a bit so I get for the casual user. If only sealed things sometimes I probably would stick with the FS. But mine only gets little breaks in between uses year round. Hi Scott, great review. Question for ya, Will food last longer using a chamber sealer? Are you able to use the thicker gauge commercial bags in your chamber sealer?
ericwitt23I don't think one could claim that it lasts longer from a chamber sealer. If you compare two properly sealed bags, they should last the same. Yes! You can use thicker or thinner bags/pouches in a chamber model as most have sea time adjustments. I've been very happy with the Vacmaster VP215 and you can get hold of the company if you need parts or service unlike cheaper models. Thanks for the comparison. But what if you want to do a five rib prime rib vacuum sealed in an Umai bag for dry aging. It doesn’t look like it would fit in the Vacmaster. I'm having trouble understanding how that vacuum chamber thing works? If you make a vacuum inside and outside of the bag, then why does the bag collapse into it self? If there is no pressure difference the bag should stay pretty much unchanged.
Because when the chamber including the bag contents are in a high negative vacuum and then it deals the bag, then lets air pressure return to the chamber, it's back to normal on the outside of the bag but sealed negative inside the bag. does that help? Pays off in long run considering it cost you 50 cents a bag to make 24 small bags from a roll of bag material. On average the vac bags cost 5 cents and even less for same size bag. So if you saved 1.50 on 3 steaks wether manager special or better price on multi pack vs single either way you definitely defeated the purpose because it just cost you what you saved in bags. In a pinch the vac machine you can use regular name brand or store brand ziplock bags or cheap store bought food storage bags with no zip seal. And if you are into dehydrating foods for long term storage the vac machine will make a nice airtight seal on mylar bags.
@jimmieburleigh9549 to me the reason to own a chamber sealer is the time saved not screwing with bad seals on wet product. Overall, it's just faster and IMO does a better job. I got mine from the webstaurant store. here: www.webstaurantstore.com/ary-vacmaster-vp215-chamber-vacuum-packaging-machine-with-10-1-4-seal-bar/120VMASVP215.html Amazon also sells them: amzn.to/2GV1yIL They are an "Investment" for sure but in my opinion worth it!
It's easy with the external models. There is a "seal" button. With the Vacmaster you start it and hit "stop" and it will seal. It needs enough vac pressure though to raise the seal bar so it has to run for a few seconds before you hit the button.
MrBigangry There are certainly better options out there right now...but they will cost more $$$ :-) Thank you for watching! @@scottnra Absolutely false. Food savers are far more expensive and far less effective. They also make a hell of a mess and take up a lot of time. When I said disgustingly bad I meant it...... you are better off with ziplocks and displacing the air in a water bath.......
lol, we'll agree to disagree. on the ziploc water bath thing. Check out VAcmaster pricing. Mine cost just under a grand when I bought it and I've never been sorry.
Thank you James Aloyisius. There are also links to everything in the description below the video. Thank you for watching!
