The world can now continue spinning, the seasons can keep changing, and the tide can continue rising and falling all because you attempted to correct a comment made by a stranger 2 months ago on a RU-vid video. You're a true hero. However, if there has been a negative statement already made (in this case it would be the use of the word "never" that is making it a negative statement) the proper response would not be "neither" as that would carry a double negative connotation. If you really wanted to correct my obviously comical, and very much not serious statement, you would have corrected me with "I haven't either." as that would be a more proper and correct way of saying "Me either." I love this. When Turner starts "dealing seconds", look at the expression on Teller's face. The only way I can describe it is "horrified glee". This is a man with almost 50 years experience in sleight of hand techniques, and HE can't see the move, even though he's barely two feet away.

Richard takes it a step further. He has several awards, one of which for being able to deal from anywhere in the deck. Look him up, this is just the surface of the man's talent with cards. Let alone other talents, like tight rope walking.
@skylerjr2648
@skylerjr2648 3 года назад
@@farout166 Turner only showed us one of his techniques, in truth Pen and Teller truly didn't catch it. The dealing, maybe, but what Turner didn't show is he can deal from anywhere in the deck. He also can shuffle it back into numerical order or any other order that he wants (among many other skills with cards). So even of you saw the "move" you didn't see everything else that mattered. In this case, there really isn't sleight of hand. There's no fooling. He even says it at the start. He's just that good.
@jpaugh64
@jpaugh64 2 года назад
@@farout166 Turner said exactly what he was doing. If P&T didn't catch that much, I'd question their sanity. What they couldn't do (at least evidently) was catch him doing it. I don't think they hammed it up at all, especially since he said, "This isn't to fool you, yet," and since P&T have never reacted so strongly to the "audience education" portion of *any* other act. Even if they did pretend, they might only get away with that once; but if they did that often, they'd lose credibility with the audience, and ruin the effect of the entire show. All it takes is for the audience to catch them in one deception in order to forever question whether their reactions are genuine.

He sort of did, in an implicit or indirect way, every time he told Penn to identify the exposed card to the audience. Which *might* be an added trick to how he can do so much, on top of being perhaps the best card mechanic living on the planet: from a computer science standpoint, you never waste one bit of information. Don't get me wrong: I'm not at all implying that it's a "cheat", but a person with his facility with manipulating cards could use such information to produce a performance even more impressive than that achievable with mechanical card manipulation alone (Penn and Teller must surely have known this, and professed themselves fooled, nontheless). His life story is absolutely insane. He went blind as a kid and decided to become a living god instead of living as a handicapped person. He refuses to use a cane or be treated as though he's disabled. He's trained his fingers so diligently for so long that he can literally feel a card and tell you what it is. He's a karate master, having trained in the most brutal school on the planet back in the '70s. He's been approached by mobsters from several different nations and offered 8-figure salaries to con people, and turned them down every time. Bicycle sends him cases of cards and trusts his opinion on card quality implicitly. The greatest magicians in the world respect him as the greatest card master to have ever lived. When P&T saw his name, they knew they'd be fooled and were just there to enjoy the show and be blown away by how absolutely perfectly he performs. for those that dont know, this is the single BEST card mechanic to ever live, Professor Dai Vernon (the man that fooled Harry Houdini) had literally taught him moves the way he wished they were possible, he believed that these things could never be done, and because of how obsessive Richard is he learned to do them the impossible way. Dai Vernon would constantly be trying to get Richard to show more people his routine and was constantly baffled. The moves that Richard perform are literally impossible for anyone else to do (unless you also spend 10-20 hours a day for 40-50 years practicing)

This is the only time that P&T overtly showed that they knew they would be fooled from the very beginning and were just along for the ride, spectating for their own pleasure. The multiple camera angles and close-ups just make the smoothness and dexterity even more impressive. Yah, if you know what to look for, you may see some things happening, but the real magic is that Richard can actually DO that. Clearly, a true master of his art.

Yah, Penn was chuckling through the whole thing, and Teller looked like a kid in a free-candy shop all the way. Sometimes, they bring on a master like Richard for inspirational purposes... plus, they get to have him in their Vegas show to "wow" a wider audience. It's a kind of "showcasing the great ones" to advertise how far certain specialties in the art can go, and to encourage younger magicians to strive for that greatness.

Wow came across this by coincidence. My farther has been in show business for decades and is a good friend of Mr. Turner’s. My dad would always show me pictures of them hanging out and tell stories about some of the incredible stuff he does. One thing that always stuck with me is my dad told me you could have a stack of cards right by Mr. Turner and tell him any number between 1 in 52. And he immediately reaches over, grabs what appears to be a random number of cards and put them right in front of you in 1 smooth fast motion and it’s always the exact amount you just said in cards. Amazing stuff.
@Blankp1anet
@Blankp1anet 5 лет назад
Within the circle of card magicians that's actually quite an achievable trick; I myself can usually get within 3 cards if I take a few seconds to feel it out; I'm sure Richard Turner has perfected it. Turner's skill is better represented in how easily he can do these dealing tricks such as the second deal (dealing second top card) because it's incredibly difficult to do well and he does it so easily.
