The crazy thing is that Montserrat is now a mid level concacaf team! They may even qualify for the Gold Cup one day. They have gotten so much better since this game
This was terrific. The 2002 World Cup is still my favorite; but, if I'd had the dough back then and a choice between attending the final in Japan or this match in Bhutan, I'd have probably picked Bhutan.
The most corrupt world cup ever in the history of football is your favourite? Chinese officials taking bribes to ensure the cheating countries win. Yeah what a great advert for football eh?
I am Bhutanese and I saw this video like 2 or 3 minutes and I always wondered who made this and why and I was born in 2000( obviously idk but I have never heard ppl talking) I am so thankful to ppl who organized and the camera crews and all ppl participated and the Montserrat 🇲🇸 country I never heard also. Now I know so I am going to find out more about this country.
You have to remember that at the time, half the island was covered in volcanic ashes, including the capital. There really was nowhere there where they could play.
AFC i.e Asian Football federation organizes a tournament for lowest ranked Asian teams called AFC solidarity Cup, so FIFA should also try organising something like this.
AFC had a tournament once. We gave lowest and developing nations in rankings to participate on a tournament, & the champion will qualify to Asian Cup. This exposure really help the country together as a football nation.
One of the most beautiful films I’ve seen. If you enjoyed this documentary I can also recommend “Genghis Blues”. Different themes but it will make you feel the same: united through differences
After that match dorji actually score against guam in 2003 also and Bhutan win 6-0 is also first time they win the team with the big score and it also a biggest win
In this and other worlds,I fully like both the countries which are Bhutan and Montserrat extremely so much daily in my life forever and every generations that we would be born, good friends!!!:-D
Fun Fact: My dad recorded the sound for this documentary and he told me the directors asked nike, puma, adidas and other brands to sponsor it but nobody said yes football should be fun and the same no matter where your at right well all your favorite brands said no. And thats actually the reason why there are no brands on anything not even on the ball.
such a good idea tournament for the lowest ranked teams on the planet so they all have something to play for 64 teams most likely as 32 low ranked might not bring enough cash to make it work
A friendly reminder that FIFA has the resources to provide these kinds of opportunities to all the Bhutans and Monserrats of the world but would rather kick the money its leadership doesn't straight-up embezzle to friends and sponsors.
I have seen the actual Bhutan national team of this period play in an Amature Knock Out competition in a feild having no grass but rather sand and even though they won the tournament, they won with 1 goal in the final against the team consisting of local amature players of a small locality of the small town of Darjeeling.
There could be futurios 4 Continents Tournament in the years of 4 * n + 3. It would contain 16 teams from the 4 weakest continental federations. qualification format: coordinated through the respective continental federation qualification spots for the best 3 teams from the 4 Continents Tournament 1 st: FIFA World Cup (3 years later); Olympic Games (1 year later) and Continental Championship (next time) 2 nd: FIFA World Cup and Continental Championship 3 nd: Continental Championship excluding teams who took part at the FIFA World Cup, usually 1 year before teams who took part at the Olympic Games, usually 2 years before teams who are in places 1 to 32 in the FIFA world ranking, at least once since the last 4 Continents Tournament CAF: 4 AFC: 4 CONCACAF: 4 OFC: 4
