Video and photos of players hitting the college football and high school football playing fields 100 years ago. The HD photos and videos show life on the gridiron before ESPN was there to record the highlights.
The video includes film highlights from the 1903 Princeton vs. Yale football game and the 1903 Chicago vs. Michigan Football game.

+Danny Bolton - On the contrary. College teams first came together in 1876 to unify the rules. And it was 2 significant rule changes in the early 1880s that transformed the game of Rugby into American football.

I think the c. 1920 teams that you say are unknown teams are the Army / Navy teams. It looks like the back of Bancroft Hall at the United States Naval Academy and the field the Navy Midshipmen used to play on until they built their current stadium (Navy Marine Corps Football Stadium).

American Football derived from Rugby. Soccer ( Association Football ) has its own roots. It is called soccer to make clear the diversity to "American" Football. The term derives from "Association Football" because the FA = Football Association was the very first world wide Sports Association, founded in 1863 to clear the different rules of the different games called football. Rugby Union was founded later in 1871. In Britain soccer is called football; in all other english speaking countries it is called soccer, not to mix up with American, Canadian or Australian football.

If you think this looks weird imagine how football will look 100 years from now. I love the game but my guess is if it is played at all it will be more like flag football because of head injury concerns. Football as we know it will not be played at the high school or college level. In the future people will watch old videos of how the game was played and be amazed at how it was ever allowed.

The forward pass was made legal in 1906, so yes it was.

As a matter of record, Walter Camp used a forward pass in 1876. The referee tossed a coin and allowed it to stand. However, as is noted here, the pass became fully legal in 1906.

American football from 1874 to 1882 WAS rugby and then slowly changed rules until the forward pass in 1930s.

Good ole' Hardworkin' American look it up, louis de prince was one of them for example originally invented the first camera that could capture moving film, never had a patent for it tho and ended up not being seen again after taking a train ride to england

I guarantee you that every one on the video are 100% dead by now. Also back then concession stand foods & drinks were very cheap. You can smoke, use foul language in the stands because there were no ladies or kids around. A large majority of the fans were mostly white and no Mexican's. The greatest days in sports

Man how the rules have changed, so many offensive players moving prior to the snap, linemen running 30 yards downfield on a pass play. Weird to look at.
