Cab ride on the footplate of former LBSC Class A1X 'Terrier' No 2678 'Knowle' at K&ESR. This diminutive tank engine was built by the LB&SCR at Brighton in 1880 and withdrawn by BR in 1963, running first as no 78 then 678, 2678 and 32678. Starts with a look at the engine at Bodiam on the KESR then a cab ride between Northiam and Wittersham Road in the late summer sun.

Whoa! That firebox is really low to the ground, you can tell the fireman’s really putting his back into it! Lovely video any the way!

It's said that it was often easier for firemen to kick the coal into the firebox than shovel it!

The advantage with a small firebox is that you don't have to throw the coal in as far as you might have to on something like an LNER A4
