What a beautiful way to describe this song! It's always been a favorite of mine. Simon & Garfunkel's music has always been a huge part of my life and I've loved them my entire life. Thank you for that comment. :)
I was just thinking that, too, a minute before reading your post! It's like a deja vu of a future dream - uncanny and tinny at the same time! A perfect song that comes with atmosphere. I think this is my favorite version ever.
Unfortunately, people tend to misuse and over-use the "voice of an angel" cliche and all its variants to the detriment of everyone. So much so that, when the real thing comes along, the image and the phrasing have nearly no meaning at all. Still, this man surely has the voice of an angel. Supernaturally beautiful.
When the song is over Paul and Art look at each other and I hear Paul thinking: "What a beautiful voice he has", and Art: "What a beautiful song he wrote". Wonderful.
I sang this song often to my beloved late wife before she left me. Often, after she left, she would dance in my dreams; I awoke, this song played in my mind and the end the words were, "I kiss your memory with my broken tears. I miss you, Val, Oh i miss you."
Paul Simon is a difficult man but a true poet.............the songs of these years were so pure, the words, the music........and having Art G sing them with his heavenly voice.......wow perfect.
It is often necessary to separate the Art from the Artist. This most probably applies to Paul Simon, meaning the Art is wonderful even if the Artist often is not. Learned this a long time ago--humans are ridiculously difficult at best.

What a masterpiece. The lyrics, the cadence, that voice of gold. Perfection. What a gift he had. Absolutely one of the most beautiful voices in musical history. "I kissed her honey hair with my grateful tears." What a perfect description of the kind of love we all wish for. Thank you Art, for this and so many more.
I remember how when this song came out, I would sing along. But I could never muster up the emotion that is in his voice when he sings "oh how I love you girl". I dont think you can sing it that way unless you feel it.
This is my favorite solo by Art. I can't believe the emotion and soul he puts into every word. Kathy's song live by Paul is my favorite by him. My favs as a duo are the boxer, Sounds of Silence, I am a rock, Patterns, Dangling Conversation, at the zoo, etc.etc.etc. I'm 54 and have been listening to them since the mid 60's.

+Amelia Morales M. I only loved Paul, my whole life :) When I was young, I had a friend which loved Art. She went to America as an Au Pair. And she worked at a family which father's was the plumber of Art Garfunkel's brother. I visited her there, and we went to a concert of S&G in New Jersey. But that family's father said: 'What? I did not know Garfunkel came from a freaks family! I will never work again for that guy!' A young man of mid-thirty. I am still shocked, after more than thirty years. By the way, we had been sooo close to them! But we did not meet them, and we never married them. But we longed for both, to be honest :D
I was only 8 years old when this song was released in 1966, don't remember where or how I heard it, or even what it meant, but it filled my heart with emotion. Funny thing is, listening to this song even today still fills my heart with emotion. But then again, isn't that what makes great art timeless?

Yeah. Well, my perception of Paul is it was all Art could do to hang in as long as he did. Have you heard the nutty tape of Art in the studio obsessing about vocal takes?
What I read was that Art told Paul that he wants to do half a year acting (in Catch 22) and half a year doing music with Paul. Paul said OK. A while later Paul found out that Art was going to do another movie, so he asked Art why he didn't tell him about it. Art said because he wanted Paul to keep doing the music. I think at that point Paul just thought "No. No way." and possibly "Go fuck yourself".

The lyrics to this song perfectly describe a whirlwind relationship I had with a bubbly British gal who was 23 at the time. I was 36. Down to the most seemingly insignificant details it describes our very passionate relationship, eerily so. I think of her often and will never get her out of my system.

Several years ago I hiked the southern 1/3 of the Appalachian Trail as a warmup for a Continental Divide Trail thru hike. I hiked a few hundred miles with a young woman who just took her BS in oceanography. If I was 20 years younger I would have put the moves on her. I didn't know her real name, only her trail name, but I knew where she was going to grad school in the fall. After I finished the CDT I tracked her down. Her name was Emily. I wrote her and told her that I loved her real name. A few months later I was downloading songs on my ipod for my next thru hike. By chance i downloaded this and realized that it was this song which caused me to gush over her name. I wrote and told her about it. She told me that she dreamed of someone singing this song to her. Too bad that I didn't have a guitar with me while we were hiking together.
I'm almost 65 and have been married for 26 years to the same man. I know that I'm not his Emily. I hope that I'm someone's Emily. Not to break up my marriage, it would just be nice to know that I am.

Simon and Garfunkel are equal to the Everly Brothers in harmonizing as a Duo. The Beatles will always be the Greatest Band with the largest volume of great music ever recorded, but many other recording artists produced many timeless, beautiful Classics. This Hauntingly beautiful Love song perfectly sung by Art and wonderfully written and performed by Paul is my Favorite Simon and Garfunkel song. It is so simple, yet so powerful and pricelessly beautiful.
It really is one of the most beautiful songs of all time. This diehard romantic fell in love with it as soon as I heard it years ago. I couldn't stop playing it then. It reminds you of the most romantic night that you've ever had and constantly thing about over and over again.
