Absolutely... He was blessed with the voice of an angel. Together, they have given their fans an infinity of awesome music. Love them. Paul's songwriting and marvellous gituar playing gave Art's voice wings... And doesn't his voice fly. 😍
@@patriciabarnes7034 I grew up in the sixties, so I've listened to them all my life. I can't get over how beautiful their harmonies were, but the big thing that always gets me is Paul's guitar playing. How does he do that? It's like the highest possible level of folk guitar playing. He makes it look easy, but OMG that is top flight guitar playing.
There is an intensity to Garfunkel's voice that makes it much more than just pretty. Simon is simply a brilliant guitarist. He can carry the entire concert with that one instrument like an orchestra.
Exactly, it's a special tension, as if he's declaiming a fundamental truth to people, a prayer or a poem, something we needed and were searching for, but were not aware till we heard it. Something crafted by the unique and poignant writing, and playing of Simon, and created by the perfect, misterious simbiosys of their two voices, of their souls... They are quite unique in music.
I’m sitting here listening to these two amazing people and I look at the audience and realise that; at that time I wouldn’t have been allowed to sit in the audience. Thank heaven for RU-vid. They touch me greatly with their wonderful sounds. Each word has meaning, so powerful. Nothing like some of the empty lyrics you hear today.
1965 and just about to enlist in the British army, what a time to be young. The Beatles with Simon & Garfunkel were the sixties. The best time to be young.
five minutes into this and I am already astonished. These guys are not much more than kids writing and performing great poetry that helps define an era, and transcends that same era, as literature tends to do, which they put to notes on the musical scale. And then they sang that creation with a purity and simplicity that expresses it all.
They were a duet for year in the late 50s-early 60s. In fact, they broke up after making the first LP. Hits from that got them beack togehter. In other wrds, they weren't that young in 1968.
I never get tired of listening to Simon and Garfunkel ( or both of them singing solo ). Garfunkel's voice is so smoothly angelic, but Paul's voice is great, too. The perfect duo. I've listened to them my whole life. Such a treat!
"Simon/Garfunkel/1968" - I knew this was gonna be great! 🙂I just like to watch Art "breathe" because he has so much control over his voice. And then there were 2 Pauls!!👍🏾🌹 Bravo
In my 60’s now, and not in great health, but I always feel great listening to this timeless classic. It reminds me of my first girlfriend when I was a young boy, and takes me back to my youth listening to Simon and Garfunkel on my old turntable. I wish I could go back there one more time before I pass.
To this day, there is no duo that can harmonize better than Simon and Garfunkel. They are truly a gift to the world. There is deep meaning to all that Paul writes......
How have I lived to be 60, and listened to Paul Simon and S&G my whole life, and never knew that Paul had a brother named Ed who played guitar? I wonder whatever happened to him...
Artie, the young man with the most magnificent, angelic voice ever. Young Paul and Art, they were also very cute. Magnificent song and Art certainly gave it wings. I wonder if they ever watch these old videos? So young and talented...Legends.
I always thought how still Art looks during his preformances. He gets totally lost in his singing... Total concentration and never, nor seldom taps his feet or shake his tail feather, so to speak. He looks like the shy intervert, yet, I think Paul is shy too but, there's something behind Paul's eyes, and a look on his face that is as deep and complex as an ocean. Love all the songs these two did together... Still do and still listening to them today Their voices were made to go together. March 2021.
Each of us are born into this world with a complete unknown where we are going to end up. Along that path, we endure trials and tribulations that we have to overcome to succeed. Simon and Garfunkel filled that need , with music that , if you welcome it, can help one overcome adversity. True talent that in some ways will never be repeated. Thanks for helping me get through it all
The way I remember it ...the way it used to be....when life was new and the upcoming music was transitional for the times...now at 68 I watched this and "I remember when..."
I agreed on Paul's songs being some of the best ever written........but the Everly Brothers are the best vocal duo ever........ask Paul Simon,he'll tell you!
One of the greatest songs ever written, to be sure. "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls, and tenement halls." Left me speechless when I first heard them as a boy growing up in the 60s. Still affect me now.
The drumming is …perfect. I mean, it’s a small part of the whole. But - it in itself it is perfection. The whole would be less for any other drum piece.
Paul Simon had a way of writing of some of the best lyrics in songs. 'we're just a habit like saccharine" written by Paul Simon. Hehe. He is a gifted genius.
So glad I was in That 1960s generation and associating the words of Simon and Garfunkel in their songs of New York City where I was born and raised and knowing these guys were both of the same borough of Queens like myself!
Wow! I just stumbled over this piece of old film on here. I remember listening to these songs on the radio way back then and loved the special sound I heard. Their music has accompanied me throughout my life and has given me great pleasure and peace along the way. This film has a purity to it that I have never seen before. The biggest surprise was seeing Paul's brother playing along. I didn't even know he existed. Fantastic to watch this and I will watch this over again and again. Wonderful!
Hands down, one of the best duos to ever hit the music scene, Paul's creativity drawing from rhythms and melodies worldwide, and Art's stunning vocals second to none. Even after splitting up, they continued to move and exhilarate us with their individual talents, and I personally consider Art's solo efforts to rank his best, and among the finest offerings of that genre. I dare anyone to sit through his "Breakaway" album without getting misty eyed.
It's interesting how different the phrasing is in this performance of The Sound of Silence compared to the recording and many live shows. It proves how professional they were in each and every performance where they happened to be. Never missed a beat. Wish l was older when they were most visible because l would've appreciated them more.
Fantastic. Thanks for posting this. Sorry some feel the need to bash modern musicians. we need music! This is a wonderful example from the days of my youth.. And i love it when the young generation likes it too. But i mostly hope they love music that speaks to them. And am sad when the kind of music you like/dislike gets weaponized in the inane culture wars or destructive inter-generational strife.
I so miss live tv concerts that are just pure fun and talent and no political sh___ or F___ or you know what I mean. Another era...Never tire of these two...
