Hi Tony - Great to see you accepting the challenge. I'm a Ronstadt neophyte (only owning one record - your #3), so I found this to be very informative. Well done.
Hi Tony. Thank you for your video on Linda. I discovered your channel this evening and enjoyed this presentation very much. Linda became my favorite after I was gifted the Prisoner In Disguise album for Christmas in 1975. That album holds a special place for me, and yet there was so much more amazing music to discover from Linda through the years. I am happy to know that there are young people discovering her for the first time through numerous reaction channels. God bless.
Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. I fell in love, as many of us young men did , when she sang different drum. From then I was listening to almost everything she sang. I’m glad that you like her as well. Such great music.
“Look at those hoop earrings!” Love it. I can picture you tooling around town in your Trans Am. “She had a lot of boyfriends “😉. This was great Tony! I have all of those but one. I know this was tricky for you to do but I think you did a wonderful job. I might agree with your number one although I really like Silk Purse. Thank you for accepting this challenge and doing such a great job at it! Cheers!
Yes it was the hoop earrings. The queen wore them back in the day. ( eyes rolling back in my head ). lol. Thank you for doing this it was a great deal of fun but I must admit I changed the order at least 10 times. lol. Great challenge
Great video Tony. Enjoyed the ranking very much. My number one and two are flip-flopped with yours. Long Long Time from 1970 is my favorite song of hers. Awesome and informative video!!!
Funny, we just were talking about her new lps today. Can't argue about anything here. Hasten is my fav too. But as a comp. I love a Retrospective the best. I have 5 copies and a sealed one I opened Sunday. Thanks 2Tone Awesome vid.❤
Well done Tony! Very enjoyable my friend. I admittedly know nothing about her music, but I know she is definitely beloved and often see her mentioned in the vc..oh and also with the exception of the Frey and Henley connection that I knew of. Good stuff Tony. Cheers bud! 🍻✌️🤘🎶🤘
Thank you for stopping by. I think you’d really like some of her music. It was a very fun challenge. Ask me to do it tomorrow and I’m sure you’d get different answers. :)
You did it ! 👍 I need #11 Linda's debut , Silk Purse is so good, as I am a country rock type of guy. I feel that your ranking is spot on, and Hasten Down The Wind / Heart Like A Wheel are dead ties. for me ! Nice rundown, Tony 🎵
I'm sure my list would have been about the very same, and I like how you focused on those 11 albums ! I hope to find a Stone Poneys Vol. 2 soon as well ! Nice work, and I enjoyed your narration and knowledge on the important subject of ... LINDA !!!
Cool video! I haven't checked all the albums yet but the funny thing is that I became Linda's fan after listening "Hand Sown...Home Grown" and "Silk Purse" and they remain my favorite albums by her to this day,I must admit that those records have a sentimental value for me and maybe that's why they rank so high in my list.Good bless you sir!
Is it interesting of how the albums we love have that special meaning to us. That is so great that we have that connection. Thank you for stopping over and commenting.
Great job Tony, My list of favorite albums by Linda would be about the same as yours in that order. Linda does a great job of I Will Always Love You, but if you would like to hear another gorgeus version check out Savanna Shaw's version of I Will Always Love You
Simple Dreams has a great cover, as you say, but even better still is the inner sleeve of that album which triggered so many teenage fantasies! I'm sure it's apocryphal, and has been said in regard to others too, but Willie Nelson once stated that there are two types of men in the world: those who are in love with Linda Ronstadt and those who have never heard of her. Spot on!
Too bad - Canciones and Nelson Riddle is some of my faves - I was interested to see where you’d rank them. The picture disc is neat. Bragging about your 8-track! You didn’t cover her later albums - many of them are great. Your number one IS for the cover!!!! Great video!!! I love Lo Siento Mi Vida!!
If I did all of them. It would have been an hour video. I don’t think people wanted to see this face for an hour. lol the Nelson Riddle albums , imho. Are the best arranged and sounding records in her discography. Canciones is on a level by itself. A true masterpiece. And I will shamelessly admit I do love the cover of Hasten Downthe Wind. lol. Thank you for stopping by my friend.
Thank you. If I do it again. I probably we have a different view. It was hard. I changed my mind a thousand times. Thank you for watching and commenting
Awesome job my friend! I had hear the Elvis story about how he wanted to own the publishing rigihts. I agree with you that he would have done an amazing job on the song. I love the passion you have when talking about Linda Ronstadt's catalog. I was eagerly waiting your video, now to go listen to LR! Hope you're having a great day my friend! Best, Steve
I’d stream her music first. I know you will fall in love with that powerful voice as many of us did. Listen to “Different Drum” when she sang with the Stone Ponys.
I pretty much concur with your order OF THE ALBUMS YOU RANKED, however, you forgot about all the albums from her post Nelson Riddle and foreign language period, namely starting in 1989 with "Cry Like a Windstorm" up thru 1999's "Western Wall". IMO this last decade of her career spawned many of her best albums. They are not to be overlooked. I would place these right up there with and sometimes above her 70's output.
You are correct. I don’t know if I said it in the video or not. I can’t remember. I’m old. But I think was just doing the albums up to the Nelson Riddle stage and Conciones de me Padre and son on. Plus I didn’t want to make the video too long. But you are correct those post 70’s albums are fantastic too. Her cover of Bruce Springsteen’s If I Should Fall Behind is a master piece. I think it was off her last rock album We Ran. Thank you for watching and commenting
Her 80's music like the one's with Nelson Riddle, Spanish albums, Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind and 90's material like Frenesi, Winter Light, Feels Like Home are better than some of these, like Mad Love. Linda said she sang best between the ages of 40-50. Linda took her voice to a new level when she took vocal lessons for Pirates of Penzance. But, Hasten Down the Wind is also my favorite. I love Get Closer. Got great reviews despite only going gold. Linda's vocals are off the charts party due to her Pirates of Penzance operetta which was around this time. Love her Stone Poneys work. Bobby Kimmel said Linda had the best female voice of anyone on the scence at the time....even singers that got a record contract before they did. First 2 Stone Poneys albums are great. The third not as good but still has some gems. Rescue Me may not fit with the rest of the album but it is so good a cover. Hand Sown, Home Grown was a good starting point for her solo career. Actually, received good reviews including praise from Rolling Stone. And, her cover of I'll Be Your Baby Tonight makes it worth it. By the way, I now live elsewhere but was born and raised in Pittsburgh. Mt. Lebanon township.
Thank you so much for watching and giving your wonderful commentary. It’s so great to hear from a fellow Linda lover and a fellow yinzer. Hope all is well with you.
I'd deffo have Livin' In The USA last. Hearing that album back in 1978 was enough to put me off her for a long, long time. I came around in the end but I still consider her one of the great wasted talents. And Livin' In The USA with it's "America's Jukebox" approach epitomizes that.
Better late than never as they say. She is definitely an artist of the ages. We may not see a talent as diverse as hers in our lifetime again. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I truly appreciate you.
@@evanhughes1510 I don’t think there is anything wrong as a matter of fact I like the album. I just liked the other a little better. If I had to rank her albums all over again, I’m sure the ranking would be different.
@@twofromthetrunk9932 no I was asking the person above who commented that hearing living in the UsA put him off from Linda’s music for a long time. And I’m wondering why
@@evanhughes1510 yeah...love that album. White Rhythm and Blues, All That I Dream, Mohammed's Radio, Ooh, Baby, Baby, Just One Look, etc...and a brilliant version of Love Me Tender to close the album.
OH I see! Gotcha. And thanks. You did a great job! I knew you said you were excluding the Canciones De Mi Padres AND the Nelson Riddle albums. AND may I also say that, I believe it was in the comments, YOU wrote a BEAUTIFUL description of those three Nelson Riddle albums that captured how I feel, also. (PS, are you famliar with Linda's ENGLIISH rendition of "Perfidia"? I don't think the English version appeared on one of her albums...?) @@twofromthetrunk9932
