To be honest Daubeny is the most normal character in this entire game in my opinion , an honourable knight that hold his castle at the very front , tried to encourage his minions and his reason for "deserting" was because he didn't want to break his oath and kill the innocent to wage war for apolly , in the end he is shown as a coward but he is the only sane person in this entire thing to be honest.
Story for Daubeny Theory: The sword Holden took from Daubeny was his wife's and deserted Blackstone after she died in a siege and made him reconsider the Legion and break his oaths Edit: I really wish for a story mode where Daubeny tries to find the Warden to his sword back and travels the lands during the 7 year war
I mean I get why he would desert Apollyon because of how batshit crazy, violent, bent on war she is, but it probably would have been a better to stay under her command temporarily in hopes she makes a mistake or is overwhelmed to the point where she can be betrayed and overthrown. He was bound to be fucked over if he just left. Like he was here. He was lucky he wasn’t killed.
Our warden (I'm guessing) wasn't part of a legion, so daubney hired our warden (and possibly other knights) to increase his numbers. So a warrior for hire would be a mercenary, and I'm guessing it's common for kinghts to not be part of legions and roam as hired swords.

I don’t like people calling Daubeny a coward when he really isn’t. The only reason why he chose not to fight Holden Cross was either he knew Cross was a better dullest than him or just didn’t want to risk the destruction of his forces if he were to fall to Cross. He made a very intelligent decision to choose The Warden as his second as he knew that he would win against Holden Cross’s second and inevitably be knighted by him and leave Daubeny along his army alone. Even some of the game directors say that he is nothing like what people say he is. Some of them even state that he is very intelligent and brave. It would be really cool to see a DLC of this game were you play as Daubeny and participate in the falling of the Blackstone Legion.
Nah fr because even on the off chance that he does accept to duel Holden Cross personally and wins, that wouldn’t change the fact that over 10,000 more of Apollyon’s soldiers are waiting right outside his castle’s gates. I never understood, Warden says he was fighting for the wrong Warlord, but later betrays the Blackstone Legion because their barbaric sadists looking for war. This is all from a flashback POV so he says this after leaving the Blackstone Legion. I mean, Daubeny did what he should. He defended his castle best he could, defected from the Legion just like Warden does. Hell, Daubeny isn’t even a coward, he just recognizes how much better Holden Cross is. He kills captains and stuff to show to his minions how to fight, I dont get it
I dont even get why would the Blackstone legion attack a single castle and then call out the leader for a fight, Like what did Daubeny do to deserve that? Dafaq?
Саакян Давид he deserted the Blackstone so apolly was probably thinking he would try to help the Vikings prepare a defense to stop the events of for Honor. Daubeny was part of the Blackstone and knew about what sort of slaughter they were planning so he deserted off and brought mercenaries and knights (like yourself as warden) to defend his castle from an atack he was expecting.
The story is called Warlords and Cowards, and I think we've always had it mixed up. Daubeny is the warlord. He's no longer with the Black Legion, and he's not intimidated by Cross, rather he intimates Holden. He is certainly his better in combat. Thus calls it an execution, for Holden. I think we've just thought it would be Daubeny's because Cross is the "executioner". And notice how QUICKLY Cross tell Daubeny to fight his second. Daubeny would rather not fight a Warden, so he sends his own to do the dirty work. Daubeny is not also deep. He badass as fuck.

"THAT is how it is done, you see?" - One of the most prominent warlords, future Lion of Feronia, man who after one year under Apollyon rule gathered small army under his command, and still defied her rule, telling minion how to solo, and decapitate fuckin Warden twice as big as he is.
Because it's Liam O'Brien, who has one of the most iconic and recognisable voices in the VA scene. The only thing I don't like about him as a VA is that he only seems to be able to do one voice for all his major roles, even though he does it really well. He is also the voice of Illidan in WoW, Yasuo in LoL and War in Darksiders.
In the For Honor lore Daubeny has the tiniest resemblance of a "coward", he was a member of the blackstone legion so you know he's not just some common up jump cutthroat, he managed to stand up and call out against Apollyon's ruthless regime and got away with a large portion of their forces, on top of that, he managed to build up another stronghold after this "holden cross" event, this proves he's not only got balls of steel, but he's also a very intelligent leader and a great motivator, he knows how to choose when the odds and favour are against him, like fighting Holden Cross, all them years fighting together he knows only too well fighting Holden will end his entire career, and along with the lives of all his men and the destruction of his settlement, he chose material over honor, which in a way is the greater honor, he made himself to look bad to disappoint Holden and cancel his thoughts on destroying his forces, you can always rebuild your civilisation but you can't rebuild it if you are missing a head!
I think daubeny is the only one in this game who sounds like an actual knight, "THAT IS HOW IT IS DONE, YOU SEE?" is my favorite line in the game. He might be my favorite character even tho he's defeated in the first mission of the whole game
People call him a coward, He did not want to fight Holden because he knew it would be his death. But he wouldn't just murder a Warden he could easily beat down. He did not accept to be defeated by someone of greater skill, But he would not do the same to another one. Daubeny is the best character in the campaign
if you think about it...Daubeny avoid conflict at all cost while other Legions fighting each others, brothers against brothers, sisters against sisters under Apollyon....i say Daubeny is the lesser evil here

Tbh, (my head canon, by the way) I think Daubeny saw something in the Warden, maybe even himself, as I can swear there might have been a thought in his mind that Warden would eventually defy and turn on Apollyon, as we do in the last knight campaign mission. As a Warden himself, he guessed that Warden would definitely do that and Holden would knight him if he could defeat Holden's Second.
