The nation of Cormyr has one of the strongest armies in Faerun. It is a match for the Zhentarim, Waterdeep, Flaming Fists or the Thayan military powerhouse. How is such a great army structured, and what can other cities and nations learn from them?
Today we take a closer look at the Armies of Cormyr.
Faerun History makes videos for DM’s and Players who wish to know more about the Forgotten Realms Lore. Each week we tackle a subject that is meant to expand your connection to the realms and make it feel more alive.

Faerûn History Armies are important, and give a world a sense of realism. Knowing about the strength and organization of a nation's armed forces, can say just as much as knowing about their politics and history. I like videos on martial campaigns, religion, politics and military might, of both real and imaginary nations, myself. They are quite entertaining.

Not sure, if anyone suggested this, but - Orc Military structure would be really cool. Thing is, they have many different troops and gods they serve for with quite different approach to war doctrine. That way, orcs, actually, have quite balanced armies of different war techniques. + Orc are one of the most known menaces of Faerun. I would love to see such video. And yes, I loved this one. Recently I tarted campaign in modern day Cormyr and it was quite a research for myself to get data on their military structure and symbolism. Interestingly, I didn't knew that war mages had complex structure as well (though only simple "scholars" and "war wizards"). Video was helpful and interesting. Thx! Keep the good work!

Honestly, it is this kind of videos what make the Realms feel alive. I can definetly imagine DMs and Players alike using this info to shape their campaigns, characters and stories. My suggestion: Focus an entire series of videos on important Realms such as (and starting by) Cormyr, providing key info, so everybody can trully understand their inner workings, flavors, people and organizations in them.

Well, this is great! While I was asking for a video about Cormyr military I was expecting less than this. This really is a one of the most useful videoes you've ever made. Also it is nice to see that your channel is growing. Everytime I see a new video, there are more and more comments and ideas. If you remember my last comment, I was talking about "living the realms." Those details (like military ranks, Idioms, local beliefs and much more) really helps to build atmosphere. Cormyr is nice and rich for those kind of details. I hope you can make more videos like this. Maybe, in far future, you can make videos about Elven military, church hierarchies of selected and intersting deities (like Church of Kossuth in Thay for example. It has quite an interesting structure) I know you have your own schedule and those videos take long time to create, edit, voice over etc. I'm just suggesting ideas. Maybe, in future, even I can send you some voice clips with my foreign accent, haha.

A little late to the party but this was very insightful. I've always been a fan of Cormyr as a region but didn't know much about it because of the sparsity of information. I genuinely enjoyed the video. I always have issues coming up with names for military ranks so the flavor of this definitely sparks some thoughts. Keep up the great work!

So, the video on the military ranks are cool. It's always good to get any background about a kingdom/province. However, how about you couple this with a video about the area? Do a video on the ranks and then a video on Cormyr? Or a video about the Spellguard of Silverymoon, and then on Silverymoon?
@jasonpauldegraaf
@jasonpauldegraaf 7 лет назад
That makes sense. And, yes, it makes for better variety. Eventually you can get enough videos of each area for their own mini library. If people want to learn more about Cormyr, or the Silver Marches, etc., they could watch a series of videos just on that area.

cool, I dug the voice, it kept me engaged with the content. and the diagrams/illustrations were real good too. one problem with a lot of these sorts of videos is either lack of presentation (just some dude's boring voice with some generic fantasy illustration), or overpresenting, where the peripherals detract from the actual content. this hits the sweet spot for me.

I already new about the Purple Dragon knights and war wizards of Cormyr but I didn't know how they are arranged and the different stations which was awesome to learn about for the first time. Please if you can do one on the Red Wizards of Thay like this it would be of great value for one of my character's back story 😎. Also it would be cool if you did more of these for other organizations good or evil in forgotten realms💯👍

Quite interesting. Focusing on structural aspects of different Faerûnian cultures I definitively like, especially because such things are great for roleplaying purposes, allowing the DM to know where characters stand in context of the NPCs they interact with, and what types of offices the character might strive toward, if they think of stopping their adventuring life.
@madhatterhimself181
@madhatterhimself181 7 лет назад
I'd say a key topic to focus on would be Religion in that case; you've already done it a bit with the Giant-Creator-Myth and Toril's-Creator-Myth, but you should consider looking into the structure, philosophy and overarching history of different faiths and their gods. This is where Players, especially new ones, find their attention drawn (and for good reason).
@madhatterhimself181
@madhatterhimself181 7 лет назад
The races is definitively true. I would however argue that you couldn't speak of almost any of the races without speaking faith, especially in the case of the elves and dwarves, and completely impossible in the case of tieflings.
@madhatterhimself181
@madhatterhimself181 7 лет назад
Those are certainly interesting, but WAY less useful for new, if any players.
@madhatterhimself181
@madhatterhimself181 7 лет назад
Should probably start there. Not that Gold Dwarves aren't a people I'd personally love to learn more about; as I learn more, they just get more and more confusing to me. An obvious choice for a topic would be the Crown Wars, though that would probably become a Netheril-style project.
@madhatterhimself181
@madhatterhimself181 7 лет назад
I'm currently writing a Sundering-Adventure focusing on Darahl Firecloak, and as such, the Crown Wars (or more specifically, the major factions of the war) have substantially important roles.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series so far. Thanks for the details. Question: Are you producing content that "updates the LORE and current events" for each region in the FR as they relate to the SUNDERING ? I'm looking for details on Cormyr for this period of time as my characters are about to go towards Eveningstar and the Haunted Halls. I don't find much "current wiki or details" as to this region and am desperate for updates that reflect the time after King Azoun and what has transpired in the current DR timeframe. I'd appreciate any insight you may have to offer.
@ForgottenRealmsHistory
@ForgottenRealmsHistory 5 лет назад
Interestingly, I actually have a script ready for "Nobility of Cormyr", detailing the current ruling house of the Forest Country. I did not get the VO done yet though, so it is a while off. The way Faerun History goes about is that we write our script in-world, as per the current date, so 1491. (Or maybe its 1492 with release of Dragon Heist?) - The Sundering, is mostly ignored, as is 4th edition. The trend in D&D (and Faerun particulary) is the return of everything 2ed and 3rd edition. - Lore perspective, almost everything is back to the lore of 2nd and 3rd edition, and we usually cross check with new 5ed releases that nothing contradicts 3rd or 2nd edition lore, and go with this. Seldom if ever does it seem that they want to stick to any choices they made for 4th edition.
@thenovicedm7966
@thenovicedm7966 5 лет назад
Hmm. Interesting. Since I've run previous games around DR1372 this works. I'm centering the next campaign on Eveningstar and Lady Winter plays heavily in my game. Wasn't sure if things had changed for her. I know about the death of King Azoun and how things in the court have transpired (or I think I do) with his Grandson ruling (albeit through his Grandma ? or Mother) Not sure ...but the FR wiki covers it enough if memory serves. I've been participating in the recent 5E campaign's published books as a player. (getting tire of the Cult of Dragons). But now it's my turn to DM and Cormyr is always a favorite for me. I appreciate your prompt response and look forward to indulging in binge-watching (again) your videos this week to prep. Let me know when your script is available. I've yet to read a Sundering published book (Salvatore or Ed)...it's confusing just reading the canon, online perspectives and trying to sort our sourcebooks. I have most pdf from all versions and several other sourcebooks. Trying to keep it straight and appreciate your support. Well met.
