It's funny how in the beginning of the season we're all so hyper vigilant about everything on our plants. Come mid August when it's 100+ degrees, we're all like "ah it's fine". Or maybe I'm just telling on myself 😄.

Great video! I noticed you planted your corn in a bed next to the tomatoes, which gives me some relief because I’ve read so much online about keeping those plants far apart in the garden. I discovered your videos this year and I'm so grateful for your advice and enthusiasm. I'm gardening in VA and for the first time I'm getting tomatoes that are wilting at the top (not just a little wilting or curling but really completely wilting, although they recover a bit in the morning). No discoloration of the leaves, enough water - I'm really concerned about some kind of bacterial wilt. Have you ever seen that in your garden? It started two days after I pruned all the plants which is also worrying me. It's not impacting every plant but I'm concerned if it's bacterial it will spread. I'm going to try your hydrogen peroxide recipe this evening.

I let the tomatoes get away from me. I have 45 big plants and 45 dwarf plants (which I did keep up with, luckily) but the 45 big plants are now a crazy, interwoven jungle of tomato suckers I never pinched out. Oops! I did some tying up today but... man, it's confusing to do at this point. Don't let that happen, people! Don't plant too many and do get out there at least weekly to keep up with cutting off bottom leaves and suckers.

Hi Gary, I like watching your videos. I have learned a lot of good info to use around my garden. I have a question for you.I have tomato plants growing in a earth box and 1 in a self watering container I made they look good, but the ones I grew in the ground and in a ten gallon grow bag look like they are getting a virus or fungus the leaves got yellow spots and the leaves are wilting and turning brown? It’s not all the leaves just some. I put mulch down around the base of my plants and sprayed hydrogen p 2 times. The same recipe you use. The weather here in CT has gotten really humid and they were fine before the humidity. In my area we have got some rain but not as much as area’s around. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do to stop this. Sorry for making this so long. Thanks Craig

I’m currently dealing with an issue where all my tomato plants and bean plants started out great then the top leaves started to curl up on the tomatoes and the bean plants got short hard crinkled leaves. I have the same problems especially on roma and beefsteak tomatoes. Where the holes were I found a little brown worm or baby hornworm. I handpicked what I could find. Sometimes if you've been having extreme heat, the leaves curl up to protect themselves. Now I don't know how to fix that (sorry) 🤔😂...but maybe it's one of the things to consider? If it's a in a pot and can be moved so it's not in as much sun maybe that could help or if it's in ground, maybe a shade cover (I think you can buy those somewhere?) for part of the day? From what I've learned, leaf curl is a sign that your plant is in some kind of stress. Sorry I'm not that helpful. I hope you get it figured out. Good luck!

@Just-Nikki
@Just-Nikki 4 года назад
F L not much but plant in blocks not rows for pollination, I do 4 per square foot ( in a plus sign pattern ) that helps with wind and they are heavy feeders so compost, compost, compost, when you plant and a couple times a month use some liquid fertilizer. Plant a little deeper than you think you should for good root system. Corn is a grass so they’re pretty hardy.

Awesome video! My tomatoes are all doing great but one plant seems to be slowly yellowing from the bottom. I don’t know if it’s overwatering / underwatering? I would say nitrogen but I feed them a great balanced fertilizer. Any idea?
@THERUSTEDGARDEN
@THERUSTEDGARDEN 4 года назад
If fed, its not that. But if you are not giving them a water soluble, try that. You can really over water outside in the ground. Please visit, The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop: www.therustedgarden.com/ - Seeds, Starting Supplies, Neem Oil, Peppermint & Other Oils, Calcium Nitrate & More

I would try to investigate whether those small brown spots are damage from hydrogen peroxide. That is what I saw on a portion of my tomato plant leaves after I sprayed them with a H2O2 and baking soda mixture.

My beefsteak tomato plants have severe leaf curl with some purple veining underneath, but the plants are full of tomatoes. Should I be concerned?
@teac117
@teac117 4 года назад
Purple veining is a P deficiency sign. Likely because you're in full fruiting mode. Curl can be anything from moisture to calcium. How are the bottom ends of your tomatoes?

Why did you have been leaves on the ground? Those are good to eat in a stirfry. I'm having issues telling when to water my tomatoes and their leaves are yellow and have dying branches. I've done a slow release, some worm castings and now some fish emulation waiting s few weeks between each . What could it be? And how do I know if I'm over or under watering. I got a moisture meter but am not even sure how to use it.

If outside they should get a good watering 2 or 3s a week. They dont need more fertilizer. You have that covered. And sometimes leaves still yellow. I’m growing pink oxheart for the first time and all the leaves are curled up. It’s in between other Tomato plants and a squash. What’s going on?
@Just-Nikki
@Just-Nikki 4 года назад
Samantha there are charts on pintrest or a quick search should help you determine what’s wrong. Curling leaves have more than one cause so without a picture it’s hard to say. Are you watering consistently and deeply and using peroxide as a preventative measure? If not, it’s cheap and very effective. He recommends 8-12 tsp per gallon, start at 8 and spot test on a few leaves and if it’s good the next day, apply it early in morning or afternoon when there is still a couple hours of light but not searing midday sun. Good luck 👍

Get some cheap plastic saucers and set the buckets in those. Fill them each day too. And mulch the top of the plant. Or get a drip system for your containers. If anyone can advise me on an issue I'll appreciate it...I have a cherry tomato plant in a raised bed it got to about 2-3 ft. In height and about a month now all the leaves have curled but I didn't worry much about it only to notice 2 weeks ago flower buds appearing at the top of the plant but just before they could bloom the stem would turn yellow and they'll drop off...now I'm worried and I don't know what's causing it and what I should do also I should mention I have three Italian basil, one thai basil and one sage plant in the same raised bed around the tomato plant

I am a beginner in gardening. My first 2 cherry tomato plants are flowering and i can see some cherey tomatoes started appearing too. Are you feeding them with specific tomato fertiliser food? Do your tonato plant leaves have any signs of desease. I mean are they at least green?

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN I have been feeding with fish and seaweed fertilizer since transplanted and this weekend gone I gave some garden tone granular fertilizer...the weather here in Trinidad is mixed we are in rainy season but lately we have been getting a couple of tropical waves with alot of heavy rain and wind each week for the past 3 weeks and in between those it's really hot and humid.....on the days when it's really hot I water everything well but when much rain falls I don't water the next day cause the soil is prepared with garden soil, coco peat and manure so it doesn't dry out quickly.....the leaves of the tomato plant are green but the ones to the top have a slight yellowish look on the edges I don't see any sign of disease that I know of that's why I'm confused
