Whoa Nelley, 1978 and used to be great. Smith Cadillac-Chevrolet was located at 1215 Hwy 71 S, Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901 and is now Orr Chevrolet-Cadillac, although possibly in a different location. We got the VIN, we win: 6 for Cadillac, D for DeVille, 69 for four door sedan, S for 425 V8 with four barrel, Cadillac produced, 8 for 1978 model year, Q for Clark Street, Detroit, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Clark Street facility operated until December 1987 and the "body drop" portion of the assembly plant has been preserved in a museum type setting and that video can be found on You Tube, as well as a video of the last months of the plant's operation. We got the tag (barely), we can brag: ST78 for 1978 model year, 6CD69 for Cadillac (6) DeVille (CD) four door sedan (69), FWD for Fleetwood Body plant, West End Ave, Detroit, MI with final assembly at Clark Street, Detroit, MI, possible 80L 80U for Carmine Red lower and upper exterior paint, 78E for Mulberry Random Velour interior trim, among other codes. This car appears to have been painted (or had some paint work) at least once along the way. Yuck, a "Chevy-iac", although later on, Cadillac would do exactly that with the advent of the Chevrolet small block V8 in some rear-wheel-drive models, and it actually worked. But not in 1978, although, there were Oldsmobile designed V8s in Cadillacs at this time (such as the 350 CID V8 diesel and 350 V8 in the Seville in 1978). Whoa Nelley, Cadu and it's over for you. VIN code "D" and it's over for thee. Sold in Fort Smith and took a big hit. Smith became Orr and this one doesn't go anymore. That's it, time to quit. Made in MI and going bye-bye. Assembled at Clark and no longer has any bark. Going to be flat and that's that. Used to have a Quadrajet and it was a safe bet. Please don't get squished (even though it's a mess) because many here, possibly not Benny, but for sure the Google Man are going to be very, very, very pissed.
This video made my day, my uncle had the same one same color just a 1979 model, with that being said, i have a 1981 Cadillac Fleetwood, recently put a 350 sbc in it, runs like a top now!
I would have kept the 4-6-8 engine it had originally (assuming that's what it had) and just made it run on eight cylinders all the time. You'd have a reliable car at that point.
Buick Opel... Is that what that was? I was wracking my brain trying to figure that out. All I could think of was some sort of Mazda but I was pretty sure that wasn't it. Cool!
20 yrs ago when I was working in an auto parts store one of my coworkers who was going to college to be an automotive engineer had a 78 coupe deville, bronze color. He put in a 500 ci engine out of a 70 eldo that had head work and an custom intake on it plus 3 in dual exhaust. He mini tubbed it to run wider tires with the factory wheel skirts and factory wire hub caps, he claimed it did low 11s with street tires and plenty of tire smoke down the track. It looked totally stock inside and out except for the exhaust and it had a little rumble to it at idle.
I suppose the Eldo' was trash except the engine. Low 11's is quite a feat. "No replacement for displacement." Can't do 11's if you're smokin' the tires down the track.
Vortec 350 out of a pickup. Has the Vortec truck accessory drive and the Vortec heads... and of course a rattle can rebuild. Would'nt surprise me if its all stock minus the single plane intake lol
Only the Safety Inspections are no longer as of January 1st 2025 but emissions Inspections will continue in Texas .so as now you still need a safety Inspection for this year.
😅Car is trashed for the worst part, but that engine looks fantastic, btw I had a 77 Fleetwood brom that thing ran like a freaking tank,it got stolen before I could really do something with it, thank you for sharing brah
Well, that wouldn't be a 400ci because it doesn't have an external balancer on the crank. And, 400ci sbc never came with center bolt valve covers. And also, the center bolt heads don't fit that block. BUT, it could be a truck 350 bored out and stroked to 400ci. Hell, it could be even bigger if they sleeved the block. But this doesn't look like that kind of engine. I'd hate to speculate but it's prolly an OBS truck engine that used to be TBI. They stuck some goodies in it and put a carb on a good intake and slapped it in. But as I said... that's just speculation.
Well, it would originally have been a 7.0 litre (425 cubic inch) big block and a Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 transmission. So the front end is sitting up unnaturally high with the lighter small block under there.
Correct, and you could have gotten the 425 with either a four barrel (as this one was and the majority of them were), or with fuel injection (rare, but available).
Id take those rear fillers and use them on my 78 Coupe, if it'll be parted out. And the 4 horns (if equipped with 4 horns) The interior is Mulberry. Same as mine but mine is all leather. Nice old 78...
@googleusergp yeah I've seen them and they're no good. These are probably some online aftermarket ones too but someone has taken the time to modify and make them fit, since the ones available online never line up and fit properly. I should know, I bought the license plate filler and the trunk fillers and had to trim here and there to make them fit. If I were there, I'd be snagging lots of parts off of the car.
@@edgarherrera5085 There are different quality level ones available, so it's possible the ones you bought weren't the better quality ones. A lot of parts nowadays are "make fit" unfortunately. Some are quite good though.
@googleusergp The only ones I've seen are fiberglass and abs plastic, and they're not the best and do require "make fit" adjustments. Just like the fillers I mentioned I bought were fiberglass. The bumper fillers on mine are still original to the car. I'd like to just have these as backups. I have a walk-around black and white video on my page.
@@edgarherrera5085 I've known various folks that bought them and they worked. My old coworker was very picky about what he'd use on his cars, and back in the day, I found him a reproduction set of fillers for his father's Monte Carlo and he ordered them on the spot. He said that they fit just fine.
Needs a total rework. Looks like it became a money pit. Body and interior is fair. However would take a lot of sweat equity & know how to make this caddy what it once was! A Cadillac!!
I just picked up a 69 caprice with a 350 4 bolt main with 64,000 miles it needs rear main seal floor pans trunk pan do you know where to find parts appreciate it
Engine parts through just about anywhere as it's a typical small block Chevrolet V8. Floor pans are also readily available online through various sources.
Maybe in 1990 but this is 2024 you don't see these or others on the road anymore that is a fair price for what it is nobody gives any old cars away anymore..those days are gone.
@@donselke9487 yea my gen isn't doing that. No one but some old folks who had one might buy it but not out generation. We can't afford daily drivers or homes. People buying these are in for a surprise if they think we are.ginna lay for those cars.
The reason why the vehicles r still sitting is because way overpriced! That thing isn't worth 2.2k! At most $800 as is n sitting at junkyard for that matter! Lol
