@@judy123, but Laine knows what she's talking about, has a pleasing voice and props to Kevin for being an excellent videographer! I watch the young men going through old, abandoned homes and they make up stories about the families that used to live in them. They don't have the knowledge that Laine and Kevin have and I find myself saying out loud to the video, "Hey, what's that fireplace surround made of?" or, "That wood on the staircase is amazing, tell me about it!" and all they say is "wow, that's a 'sick' fireplace!" or "Look at this staircase! Wow, it's insane!" Something for everyone, but I love you two and your knowledge! And, Laine, your voice has a salesperson quality to it that's pure gold. Happy, smiling, not high-pitched. Just lovely. :)

This house is a true money pit. But if you have the 3-4 million it will take to restore it (the official quote given for just the house-not the grounds was 2 mil. before construction prices skyrocketed.), the result would be priceless. The problem is that the house is overpriced for the location-Augusta is on the lower end of the price spectrum. There is a lot of good stuff here but there is a lot of deterioration and wear and tear on a house that hasn’t been maintained-there is a lot she doesn’t show!

😂. I’m sure it is the “money pit”. I love that movie! My husband and I bought an older rock exterior farm house built in the 20’s. I thought we just needed to clean it and do a few things but after ripping the walls to the studs, replacing all the drywall, tape and bed, sanding down floors and restraining, epoxy countertops, painting the cabinets, having someone try to put more supports under the floors that were sagging I can say that there is still things to do. I now have back aches from drywall but I am an expert at tape and bed. I had already tiled and did some plumbing before. I never knew we would be retiring and messing with plumbing. I still see houses like this and think it would be fun to fix them up. If you pay someone else to do it all it might be easier on your back and be done faster but it has been fun.
@janedoe1146
@janedoe1146 3 года назад
@@annaramos9774 Thanks for your insight and honesty Anna! Have to say i like the "grounds" more than the house. It is beautiful, big and has many nice features but wow, i kept thinking how and why was this house allowed to deteriorate so much. A lot of work needs to be done, too much. I wonder what the history of the house is. Was it a plantation house? Someone had a whole lot of money to build and live there back in the day. How did this house fall into ruin? No family to hand it down to? The cost for purchase is high, and no doubt the proper restoration will take a couple more millions. Someone that has that and needs a big project could bring it back.

Looks like someone repainted the ceiling of the port cochlear, in 1800’s Augusta it would mostly likely have been painted a pail robins egg blue know as “Haint Blue”. A traditional color in most of the Deep South particularly Augusta GA which is known as one of the most haunted cities in the country. Haint Blue was used to paint the insides of lintels, door jams and porch ceilings in an effort to keep spirits of the dead from disturbing the homes of the living.

OMG what an amazing mansion! Unbelievable that it would have all of its original trappings still there. Those bedroom closets were huge for a house of that time. When I was a teenager we lived in a house built in 1882 and the bedroom closets were about a foot deep with hooks on the back wall. My father had to move the wall between my brother's room and mine to make a more reasonable 20th century closet for both of us. And the grounds, wow, needs some TLC, but I can imagine President Taft being quite happy there!

Love the construction features of this house. Original fixtures are so exciting. The lights, door hardware, plumbing, windows... all show how things were made, and durable. That said, my preference is Arts and Crafts. It is rare indeed to find a house this age that has not been ‘updated’ with ill-advised changes. The individual hot and cold faucets remain as testimony to its authenticity. A property such as this would require many persons to restore and maintain.

Watching in awe of this beautiful house, never knowing it is in Augusta, Georgia until the end. My mother lives a few miles from here and I have never seen it. How is this possible???? I mean I am there every month. Gorgeous, I can not wait to mention it to mom and hope to see it soon.

My daughter's name is Iris, her father's name is Garth (I know, I have chill bumps too) and THIS is the most beautiful home and grounds I've ever seen. My eyes welled-up throughout this tour, because I too, have only had that reaction to grand maisons or châteaus in France. I have been an architecture and home renovation junkie my whole life, literally. Your knowledge, taste and channel is SO BRILLIANT. I used to watch This Old House on PBS drinking tea with my mom at 8 yrs old...what kid does that?! I would collect Victoria magazines and go through them while listening to Debussy and Vivaldi at 15 yrs old hahaha. I don't mean to be odd, but before the price reveal, I had my fingers crossed that it would be under 10million and I felt a bit light-headed when it was under 2million. I am not going to get over this.

What a beautiful and gorgeous house. One thing I do love about old buildings is, of course, the detail in every corner and even in the kitchen.

I just love seeing the we're on the floors, the traffic pattern and imagining what the room could have been used for what furniture would have been there. Just lovely!

This would cost an ABSOLUTE fortune to restore and another to maintain. I hope somebody thinks it's worth it and finds a way to recoup their money.

I absolutely love this house! It’s amazing that no one has looted it , but thank heavens they haven’t! Adding, I’m ready to move, pack up my jeans, tee shirts and tools, and hit the road! I especially love the kitchen sink and cabinets. The China cabinets in the dining room are beautiful! The whole house is beautiful! Just needs love and elbow grease.

I watch listings on today's modern mansions all the time and none of them can hold a candle to this beautiful estate. Thanks for showing this property ORN and good luck in finding a residence that is this awe inspiring for future videos.

Just in case you wanna know. If you Google Cloister-Garth house gardens there is a whole 1919 article online that discusses the gardens and has a plan along with some photos. 😁😁😁

Wow I’d live in the attic and would just have a bathroom & stairs constructed outside without having to go through the house.
