I caddied at Round Hill Club in Greenwich, CT during the 1970s while John was an assistant pro there and was fortunate enough to caddie for him quite a few times. What a great player, with all the confidence the great ones have. The caddie yard overlooked the par-4 first hole and I still remember John walking over to a group of us, pointing to the first green, and saying, "See where that pin is today? If I played that hole ten times today, I would birdie it six times."
I was lucky enough to work as John's assistant professional at Birchwood Country Club in Westport, CT during the late 70s. He had just won the 1978 National Club Pro Championship and the 1978 National Stroke Play Championship when he hired me. John was a great guy, and we had a lot of fun for a couple of years at the club. John just wanted to play golf, it was that simple. Great memories.
@@HeavyMetalConcepts wow, that's amazing. Please tell him Lee Emery says hello. I'll always be grateful to him because he hired me just as I was arriving in the United States from Canada. I had been an assistant pro up there for several years. Jeff Hadley and I had a great time working for John. Your dad was simply the best!!
