This description is mostly going to be for myself to look back at in the future.
This is a testament to the lessons that I've learned through ISEF. That experience was one of the best of my entire life, and I am so thankful that I was there. It was incredible. Like I said in the video, I have been trying my best to becoming what I want to be. Being as successful as I can be, whilst feeling fulfilled and happy.
One of the areas of success that I want to achieve is RU-vid. For quite some time, I've been posting with no success, just playing video games and editing clips together. I found that didn't bring me any joy anymore. I did guitar for a little bit, and I'm now further learning the skill along with piano. I just want to help people in any way.
And what better way to do that but share my own experiences.
I spent about a month on this video, from writing a script, recording, and editing. It probably shouldn't have taken that long, but I wanted it to be good. So this is the end result. Although there are many problems, and this is nowhere near perfect, I tried really hard on it and made it due today.
I want to thank Angelina for helping me with this video, from looking over the script and being very supportive of this video as whole. She is a huge inspiration.
I also want to thank my Dad for working on me with the script, the conclusion, and more. Thanks Dad, you're goated!
also thanks to whoever watches this video.
I hope that when I'm reading this in the future, I will have had achieved what I want and more.
Goodluck, and congratulations, future Andre.
Thanks for watching!

Such high achieving people compared to me, like imposter syndrome. It’s the same for the humanities kids I guess. this video came up at the right place and right time. first, congratulations on making it to isef, and I hope you’re able to look back fondly on this video in the future, when you’ve smashed that brick wall, broken your glass ceiling :) and just thank you so much for sharing your experiences! you often hear stories like these after success has been achieved, not in the middle, when we’re still works in progress. your words, then all the comments about people resonating with your words-none of us are alone in this journey, but in the moment, it can be so isolating. you’ve so perfectly vocalised years’ worth of complex feelings for so many people. tbh you also instantly took me back to 3 years ago when I graduated hs LOL. I felt super similarly about academics from 10th grade on; despite doing everything that should’ve paved the way to success, I still floundered compared to my peers and ended up “average.” even now, as I’m about to graduate college with my dream degree, I still feel hella average, esp after attending my first tech conference not long ago and making new friends from all over who fit the high achieving bill too 😭 so, thank you again for the reminder: I’m still a work in progress, figuring things out, and that’s okay ‼️

Brooo I know exactly how you feel. I just graduated high school and i recently attended an event called the congressional app challenge where they would bring the brightest students from across the nation that had built apps and all of those students would ask me, “what university do you wanna attend?” Idek Ig they were expecting me to like list out an Ivy League school but when I simply said University of [My City], it was like they were kinda confused and they saw me differently. Now ofc that want everybody but I met a handful of students that were planning on attending MIT and such and just because I messed up freshman year, I didn’t have a shot in the college admissions process. But still, I went to a small high school and everyone knew me as the kid in tech, but once I left and attended the congressional app challenge, it really opens your eyes and see that there are so many other people who have the same goals as you and much more better than you as well which imo kinda motivates me to work harder on my hobbies.

As paranoid I may be, it's truly remarkable to me that others find their spirit in the hardships of life, and for me , it's more than enough to ignite mine. This year, and most definitely SHS, are going to be my hardest years during school (including college, if I even get in my dream one) but within anxiety lies the excitement for the future too. But now, I have experience from last year, and who I am now cannot be compared to who I was 3 years ago who wasn't motivated to even start on my assignments. My friends, peers, and teachers have always told me that I’m “smart” because I can nearly excel at everything. But in my case, that confidence goes down when I am reviewing for a BIG exam here in my country for college (top universities, the test is like ACT or SAT level), my parents doesn’t support me that much. They said that I should not expect because they kept comparing that I’m less “smart” and “we are poorer, we don’t have the incentive to achieve that dream” than the other members of my family who have the financial means. This becomes a turmoil in my everyday life to the point my self esteem and confidence suddenly goes down. With this, I was frustrated because I always fail in my mock exam and practice tests. I had SOME DOUBTS already because this university has always been my dream, unlike SAT, I had ONE chance to take this is my whole life. But when I came across this video, I’ve realized that its okay to embrace wether you are an average student. Like you said, “if what they’re doing to reach the success” hits me hard. After 24 days, it’s now the day to take the entrance exam. This gave me hope, that maybe, I’ll pass this exam and enter this university, and if that doesn’t happen, there are also good top universities. The reason why I’m still here, even if I have many insecurities, come from a poor financial background, is that yes, I’m an average person but filled with curiosity to change the world. :’>

This is relatable, but not so helpful to me. Freshman year was the first in person classes I took after zoom school. I was not used the work load in 9th grade lit and comp, so I stopped doing the work and made 50s. That year brought so much shame and feelings of stupidity. I thought to convince myself I was just average and so was the work I was failing to do the next two years. I watched all my classmates join clubs, ap classes and get As, so I told myself if they can do it so can I. I had to recognize my envy and push myself to fulfill what it was I wanted . I just started my senior year, but I still have no goal or interest and so I find it hard to see why I am working hard in school, other than to get good grades. I still see myself as average because I don’t think any one person is better than the other even if they have better grades. I am grateful that I have such high achieving classmates as examples but I also wish I didn’t follow them so much because maybe if I had tried to find a goal in the first place, I would not have fixated on getting good grades and waste time in high school. I can’t say I regret anything tho because I still had fun. For me it wasn’t the challenge that discouraged me, but the lack of reason to act. At this rate, I’ll pass high school and graduate college with a useless degree because I have no desire in my future to work to. I am nothing like the people mentioned in the video. I don’t think I understand the point made in this video. Is the point not to give up and find a goal?
@andretvo
@andretvo 18 дней назад
Yeah! Many people never find their passion or their goal until super later in life, but they will never find it if they don't try to seek it out. My friend told me that every time you work for something, you're opening up doors to opportunities to find yourself and your passion. Regarding your specific case, I think that in the long term you should follow what YOU want, instead of walking in the trails of others and hoping that you find yourself that way. That is something I also struggled with, knowing how to take action for myself and not others. Every one has their own path, when you find it and follow it, I think you'll have the desire you're looking for. Thank you so much for watching my video, good luck :)

I'm going to leave this here beacause I have no one else to talk with about it I had a strange ego-destroying experience in highschool. In elementary school i had an 8th grade reading level, did well in all my accelerated math courses, basically ignored and slept my way through school pumping out a 3.82 gpa with basically no effort required. I had a massive intellectual ego beacause of this and i was basically an asshole to most people beacause of it. when i graduated 5th grade my parents did everything they could to pay for a private school that they knew would challenge me. Immediately my class size dropped from 30 to 6 students and i really couldn't hide in the crowd and surf by quite like i used to. However my 6th and 7th grade years passed, seeming like more of the same. this is when i got a major reality check, COVID hit at the end of my 8th grade year and we remained in online school for my entire freshman year. Since i was still so used to being able to surf by, and now i had no one to directly hold me accountable for my work i severely drifted, staying up as late as 3 am on school nights for weeks on end, turning in homework more than a week late, and missing large chunks of classes due to falling asleep at my desk. By the end of my freshman year i had a 2.7 GPA, having failed highschool chemistry, and getting a D in math. By the time we were back in-person, i started the IB program. suddenly a massive amount of my class dropped out and was replaced by students gunning specifically for the IB diploma, I went from being the top of my class in nearly every subject, to being mostly average, even a bit below average in classes like history. I had to work almost every day after school to make up for time I had wasted, that my peers had utilized to build their academic character, and for the most part i succeeded. I managed to raise my cumulative GPA from 2.7 to 3.4 by the end of my senior year, with a 3.7 and 3.83 GPA in my junior and senior year respectively. it was at this point where i realized i was probably on the spectrum, and am currently communicating with my health insurance to meet with a professional TL;DR: i went from a high achieving "gifted" student, to the average student due to changing circumstances, learning the value of my time and effort in the process I'm currently attending an average, but still slightly prestigious local university with a generous scholarship and most of my freshman year taken care of beacause of transfer credits. I'm studying to become an aerospace engineer, attempting to define my own impact on the world.

Good job bro you did amazing! This is a great video and keep up the good work! I believe I saw you at the fair but sadly didn’t get to speak with you, your work was amazing from what I remember and this inspired me to do better!! I had very low self esteem at the time and now stumbling upon this it gave me hope that maybe I still have time to grow and learn! Hope we can speak next time and I wish you the best of luck! 🧊🙂‍↕️
