The reality of dog ownership isn't all sunshine and rainbows, in fact it comes with a lot of stressful and frustrating moments. You are not alone in these times, remember you do have a cute pup in front of you that you do love even if during that moment you might be angry with them. I hope this helps you see some light!

im struggling with this, this saying always hit home with me and i posted it every year for my dog banjos bday. He was only with me for 10 short years and he left me 9 months ago. I have never felt such grief and he was my 3rd golden retriever in my life. It may have been that it was just me and him for 5-6 years before meeting my wife. Fast forward to today and i have a new golden that is 7 months old. I have had him for about 4 or 5 months, and i still cant get over banjo, it is so apparent to me this new dog is not him and i don't know what i was expecting but they couldn't be more different and it makes me miss him that much more. Yeti my new golden is a good dog, he is a little high strung but he is 7 months old. I have worked hard with him on training and doing everything right and how im supposed to. I just miss Banjo so much i feel like i am incapable of loving yeti. i feel like a terrible person.

@@jimdye7431 Had a Aussie/Lab mix from an unwanted litter for 14 years. She died 4 years ago. Said I'd never get another. But one month after her death, I was online searching for another Aussie/Lab mix from an unwanted litter, as I felt so lonely. Found a litter, 4 hours away. Went to check out the litter and found a little guy that passed my puppy personality test. My new guy was indeed so much different than my past girl. Nevertheless, I treated this new little guy as a being with his own personality and traits. In some ways, he's better than my past girl, in other ways, he is not. But, he is a unique individual who loves me and I love him. Love the time with your new dog, treat him right, and he will love you. Embrace his differences. As for your past dog, Banjo, don't focus upon his death, focus upon the great times you had with him. Then focus upon the great times you can have with you new pup and his uniqueness. There is not a day that goes by that I don't remember my ol' girl, but I love every moment with my present guy. It is OK to still have love Banjo and now love Yeti. It is not betrayal. To everything there is a season...remember and love what was, yet love and embrace what is!

I got my puppy for 4 weeks now. The third night I was laying in bed, just crying because I thought I made a mistake by getting her. I imagined a puppy would be much easier than it is. After a week, I really got to know her body language and began to understand what she wanted. Now it's a whole different world and I love the girl.

Just over a year ago, a stray puppy came into my life At the time, I wasn't mentally ready for another dog or a puppy, for that matter. But having a mom who loves animals kept him It was hard at first, I disliked him, especially when I noticed my dog acting different. He never had a puppy live with him before and got sad losing that attention It broke my heart and made me hateful towards the new dog because he took my dog away from me.... But after telling myself it's not his fault, training him and my dog getting more and more used to having a new best friend and becoming himself again every day I wouldn't trade that stray for the world He came a long way. He sees me as his safety blanket He follows me around the house, he hides behind me during thunderstorms I'm happy to see him get more comfortable, not fearful of being on the bed (I'm assuming wheteever he came from, he was abused) I'm also happy to see my dog get along with the new dog Playing every day, sleeping together It took time I think it's okay to have those moments of regret because after you sit down and think, you realize how special they truly are and learn to be better in a way I don't know what I'm saying, but that's my experience

I honestly never regretted getting my dog. But for me, the puppy stage was the worst (smooth collie). Past that, I think my dog is actually cuter now (in behavior at least) than he was as a pup! He definitely is a lot more affectionate and friendly. He has adapted to me, and I have adapted to him.

I am currently going through puppy phase (10 weeks old now) and while I have a lot of times where I am so over the moon happy with my dog, other times I feel like I literally am the worst person and will never be able to socialize and train him to be a respectable member of society. It is a weird roller coaster for sure and it is really motivating to hear from other people who have gotten past this part.

@@bailey.in.alignmentJust wanted to say, same here! I've had dogs before, but my new puppy (now six months) came with all the bad habits in the book (not to mention, being very headstrong and easily distracted). I sprained my wrist and shoulder from her bolting at squirrels, have been scolded by passersby seeing her have a temper tantrum while I trained her, and I couldn't leave my house for four weeks due to her extreme separation anxiety. I regretted getting her. I think it's a normal response to all this. It just ends up messing with your mental health, you know. I honestly still regret sometimes, because no matter how I switch up the training I always end up hitting a wall and it's tiring. But I try to follow frustrating moments with fun ones so I don't let the frustration ruin my relationship with her. She's here to stay, so I have to cope with the bad times until they go away!

@@bailey.in.alignment Keep at it! When it is at its worst it can be a lot. But in retrospect that stage is over in a flash. Some people find adolescence/puberty years the worst. But for me personally, it is the puppy stage no question. I would go as far as to say that if I did not know I would get an adult dog for many years afterwards, I would not put up with the puppy stage. I have gone through it a number of times now and as cute as they are, to me it is always terrible. But it gets better.

This video really touched me. I don't have a dog right now, but it's one of my dreams, and I get myself thinking about regret all the time. It seems that when we are adults, things change drastically because all the things we do are at least a little based on rational thoughts and real-life issues. I mean, when we are kids, we get so excited when we get a puppy or a kitten that nothing else matters; we don't think about who is gonna feed or walk them, who is gonna clean the pop, etc. When we are adults, everything changes, and we take actions rationally. And worse than that, we can't be 100% sure that this new dog will fit our expectations (it probably won't). I've been fostering a litter of kittens and the momma for a month now, and it's weird to admit that it's not being as great as I thought. The momma doesn't trust me. She's so afraid of everything and hisses at me every time I enter the room to check how things are going. At first, I got really sad, but now I understand it's not her fault, it's mine. I got a picture in my mind, and reality was different. Things are not always the way we plan, and that's fine, that's real life

I just turned age 70 and Indigo turns five End of April 2024. Just hope I out live her. Wouldn't want her in another home. She was re homed to me when she was a little over a year 1/2. indigo took it really hard when she realized she would not be returning to her 1st home. She cried in her sleep at night quit a lot. Would wake her her to clam her down and laid next to her. She came from an already made family. Parents said they did have time for her. Parents and four little girls. She loves children a lot. I don't regret getting my baby girl - I do regret getting her before I moved out of my parents'. They directly interfered with her training and called me mean for just having a structured day with rules.... Now they complain that she doesn't listen to them or stays still 😂. They're a ton of work to train and while I was ready for her, they were not. It will be fine when we adjust to a new place but she went from quiet in the kennel when I had to focus on work to putting things in her mouth that she's not supposed to in order to get my attention when I need to focus. We'll get there and I adore her but some days can be frustrating with deadlines looming

I finally just sat down and cried. I felt like she diserved better and I'm keeping her from a better life. Later, I realized she wasn't wanting to go for a walk at all. she was tring to tell me something. I passed out later because my fever got to high. Gypsy knew something was wrong. She barked at my mom when she came in and started running into the back room, still barking. She never greats mom like that. She found me and got me to the hospital. I insisted on coming home because I knew how scared she must be. Broke my heart, I scared her. I got home, and she's been snuggled up next to me all day. She doesn't leave my side other than run to get mom if I start coughing a lot. Best nurse ever❤

Got my first dog this summer, a very sweet and gentle border collie, but I am dreading his adolescence a little bit. I love him, but sometimes I feel like I don't give him enough because I want everything from my end to be perfect because he deserves that, and it makes me sad when I fail at that task. Even though I know it's not possible for everything to be perfect. I do feel a bit more reassured after this video though, instead of those "facts" videos that doesn't really speak from the heart. Well timed for me to find this now, thank you for making it. You have two very beautiful dogs

You’re the one who inspired me to get my rescue Aussie Luna who i’ve had for two years now and i’ve learned so many things from watching your videos and have bought so many helpful products based off your suggestions like the zee dog hands free leash (amazing), the silicone dog tag and the RC harness! So far i’ve loved everything you’ve recommended, would you consider making a video of all your favorite and most helpful dog accessories?

My niece got an Aussie for her first time dog, and she has 2 smaller children. The dog nips the kids. Well, an Aussie for a first time dog with kids, that is not easy. But, she really loves that dog, so in the end, I am praying it will work out for her. It really is a good dog, it just needs time. When I was a kid we had a cow dog, and it liked to herd and nip us kids too, back then we never thought anything of it.

I rescued my furbaby 9 years ago. He was a 9 month old abandoned puppy. The rescue agency found him under a trailer, at a farm with several other emaciated puppies. He was terrified of his own shadow, he threw up in the car due to fear. He was afraid to go up and down the stairs. Watching him grow from a terrified starving pup to the dog he is today is the most fulfilling thing I have done. I don't have children, he is my child lol. He loves the stairs now, and he can sit in the car without blinking an eye. He is my velcro dog, he knows when I am sad and he is there for me on my down days. Although the patience and training took years. I wouldn't trade him for the world. The regret lasts a moment, on a single day of the week where your new pup might chew a controller or steal a banana off the counter. You will long forget about those days because the more time you put into your pup, the better it gets and the more rewarding the emotional connection becomes. He is now 10 years old and I know I don't have many years left. There are no regrets.

I must be honest with you. I am a new subscriber but it was your topic that really intrigued me. I thought you were going to say that you got a dog and you’re not happy with it. The first thing that came to my mind was oh my gosh he’s probably abusing that poor little baby and I was going to offer to take it from you and and give you the money. However you totally surprised me in such a good way. to be honest with you I love animals more than humans. Give me a dog any day and I am the happiest person ever. They love us unconditionally. This is something humans have yet to know how to do. They love you no matter how much money you have or don’t have, they’re always there for you when you need to just speak to an animal that you know understands everything you say. When you look into their eyes you know they understand but their eyes are the window to their soul. Thank you for loving your dogs so much and a big thank you to your beautiful girlfriend for adopting. I have a little Yorkshire terrier. She was in the worst shape ever when I rescued her. I was even asked not to have her spayed for A good few months because she was so so thin and my vet said she was not going to make it. I was able to get 2 pounds on her in two weeks. She had a broken jaw and two broken legs and so all that was fixed. She’s been with me for 15 years and she is the love of my life. I don’t know what I would do without her and I always pray to God that we are going to cross that rainbow bridge together. anyways thank you for such a wonderful video and myself and Roxie send our love to your beautiful fur babies and to you and your beautiful girlfriend. Take care, Susan from Canada

The only regret I have about getting my fur baby is knowing he won’t be with me as long as I’d like. I cry about that and he’s only a year and 6 months. I never felt this type of love before… and his outgoing personality has really changed my hermit life. Best decision I ever made 🥰

I prefer to call them Mini American Shepherds. Both the mini and the standard originated in the good ol' US of A. My Eli is " 'Mercan" and we're both proud of it! I definitely had to get creative when he was a pup, he's 6 now, his energy level was soooo much higher than any other breed I'd ever had (from St. Bernards to Pomeranians including a coyote hybrid, I'm old so there's been quite a few) so he caused me to step out of my box, get creative and think, something I really needed since I'd been recently widowed. Dogs are such an amazing gift of creation.

I wished more ppl would make vids about the ‚bad‘ parts of having a dog. Everybody keept telling me about going for a walk 3 times a day is soooo much work - it’s my favorite part. Cause that’s the time my dog wont keep crying constantly because she hears other people in the building. Because that’s when I can just relaxe, is not having a dog around me who wants 24/7 to do something really exiting and if not, shes barking or noseboobing me or biting my trousers or blanked. And she is well trained, very proud of her. But also, she’s a dog. I wanted a dog who is sleeping when getting home after a 1 hour walking tour. But she’s 1 year so I guess it will all pass by and someday I can enjoy being around her in the house

I adopted 2 ferrel kittiens , 6months apart . I had just lost my 2 cats due to old age 19yr old and my 20yr old . I knew at the shelter he would be very difficult, being ferrel , no one wanted to adopt him. It was hardest 6months w a pet . He was wild , hissy and would bite , all fierce 3lbs of him 🐈‍⬛️ . Here we are 13yrs later and his a fat, LAP cat 🐈‍⬛️ , so mellow and very sweet . He still shy of strangers but a doll to me ❤️.

Oh boy, I head a border collie and its a nightmare. I had a dog in the past that I took in as a puppy, so I brought him up and the bond that we had was enormous and we loved each other to bits. The dog that I have now - I took him from the streets and he is an adult and he doesn't care about me and doesn't listen to me and I can't train him etc. To be honest its a nightmare. I really regret taking in an adult dog. I never thought that I can say something like this but it is what it is

I don’t regret my two dogs. 1 a cocker x beagle and the other a cocker spaniel who is only just 4 months. Despite my research I have been unprepared for the puppy phase. Toby my cocker x beagle was a rescue and I’m now convinced was the easier of the two. My patience with the pair of them has been tested, but they are going nowhere.

Thinking back to adopting Niles, it was not our intent. After we had lost our previous dog, our family decided on not adopting any more. Niles was in our lives less than a week later. Lab/Neuphie Cross, and, thankfully just a big Lab. Not a full blown Neuphie.
