Thanks Brian. I need help on drives. I recently discovered that I must have two drives (Local Disk C and D) in order to protect my files incase something happens to the system. My pc only has one drive (C). How do I split it into two, one with Windows and the other with my files.

I was unsuccessful with running the command but I tried out the "EMCO UnLock IT" software and it was pretty much just a two step process after downloading it. Thank you for showing more than 1 way to solve my issue. Great video!

thanks for the tip. I had to use emco because the force delete would always say it could find the file. I used emco and it worked. But when I went to uninstall it, had to shutdown explorer.exe, But it didn't reopen it. I had to find a way to go into task manager and start it, but it started to flash and I had to force restart my pc. wouldn't recommend using that program again.

I've had a stuborn 20GB video file that has no length that won't delete and Command didn't help. I've just used the EMCO UnLockIT programme Britec mentioned. It really does work for those pesky files/folders that refuse to budge to the Recycle Bin.

Wow! incredibly easy! Had an EXE file that wouldn't boot nor be able to get deleted, so I did the /S function for delete on CMD and it just worked. Nice. Appreciate it :)

I have forced folders and files to be deleted before on Windows XP and Windows 7. The same thing can be done on Windows 10.

You can find the file via: dir C:\mfilename.ext /S /B ----- This will show the file and path in ANY directory on your C: drive, if it finds it. If you have other drives, you can do the same replacing the drive letter. When you look at the command, it looks like it only checks the file in the root, but what it does is just a bit different: it checks for a file with that name, also in the subdirectories. And, since the root of your disk has many subdirectories (well, our whole disk in fact), it looks into your full disk.

CMD Prompt couldn't do it but that software was all about it. It unlocked and or deleted everything but one file. Thank you for posting this, if you knew how long I have needed it!

In my case the CMD method didn't work, but I suspect it was because the corrupted file was on a different drive than C:\, (I did try using cd first but CMD couldn't accept the path to the file even with the drive letter amended). I went ahead and tried the EMCO UnlockIT freeware you mentioned at the end, and it worked a treat. Thanks for a helpful tutorial :)

Thanks Brian. You could also hold down the "Shift" Key then right click and "Copy as Path" and that will get you the whole path to paste into CMD. For those of us that don't like to type.

Command prompt failed saying, "File was not found". But the 3rd party app, Unlocker worked for me. I just installed it, deleted the files I wanted it and uninstalled the app. All good now. Thank you!

Everytime I do that it says “The system cannot find the file specified” I type in the file name exactly how it is. Ive tried case sensitive, putting underscores inbetween the words. Nothing works.

The system gives each file a different name, you have to go to the file (cd /d [file location, for example C:users\user\downloads) then find the file (dir /x), now see if it's a folder or a program, if it's a folder you use rmdir /q /s [system given filename] if it's a program use del /q /s [system given filename]. If for any reason access to remove it is denied, it's most likely a virus. For that many anti virus softwares can force remove it if you specify it to find/remove it.

its not the file name you need to type.. its the name to the left of the file name.. heres an example of the file i just deleted.. File name: The Synth sounds of Donna Summer Actual name you need to type in: THESYN~1 This drove ME MAD FOR HOURS!! :)

Just to let you know there is A much easier way to fix this issue (by using WinRAR, just set it to delete sources files/folder After achieving selected folder/files) it only takes a couple of seconds

If you want an easy way follow this: -You need 7zip or winrar. 1. right click the folder or file 2. go on 7zip and click "add to archive" in the dropdown menu 3. Look for the option "delete files after compression" and check the box 4. click okay. 7zip will now create a zip file and it will DELETE the undeleteable file. 5. Now you can just delete the zip file and you are done

thank you so much! I had this OGG file that I downloaded and it was acting funky, I wasn't able to play it, move it, rename it, or delete it. I had to download UnLock It, and it finally worked! If I get another file that doesn't wanna get deleted, I'll be sure to use UnLock It.

i had a problem with this and it just jammed up the file in general, but after a few minutes (without using any tutorial or doing anything) the procces somehow finished and it did everything i told it to in the past minutes i tried to move/remove it from my system.... looks like the file hang up in the CPU and lagged it a bit but its now ok

I'm trying to delete something in my recycle bin. When I pressed empty recycle bin it deleted all but 2 files but those pesky 2 files are still there and the empty recycle bin option is now greyed out but the items supposedly can be restored but I have no intention of restoring them because I don't want them. this didnt work for me a had an .ogg music file that just woulnt delete i when i tried to delete it my whole computer freezed and my screen got white my keyboaard didnt work then my monitors refreshed and everything was fine but still the file wasnt gone and if i play the music file is just wont play it says error code 0xc00d36c4 i tried to do i through cmd but still it just wont delete

I have found that when you toggle developer settings for file locations, that sets permissions which block you from deleting files.

These are called attributes in Windows, and the one shown in the video (to override) is just one of them. Apart from the "readonly" attribute, also the "system" attribute can prevent deletion. Check with: attrib filename.exe --- Change it with the same command, see: attrib /?

Can you help? I often have to scan through hundreds of files, deleting as I go. Every single time I get the confirmation 'Are you Sure You want to Delete this file'. I'm trying to delete something that wont delete for some reason and i follow all the steps and type the file pathway, but it says "Could Not Find C:\Users\freak\Downloads\Lilith Could Not Find C:\WINDOWS\system32\2.0" as if the one file name is 2 separate files I can't rename the file I'm trying to delete, it wont let me. ok so um, yknow I wanted to install critical ops from bluestacks and I uninstalled it from the app bluestacks, and I saw that the "file" was still in my desktop screen when I start it up, I tried to delete it but it says that it cant find the file location, I don't know what to do, I tried sending it back to my files folder, sending it to the recycling bin, can you try and helping me out?
