I've had an undeletable folder on a drive for the last year. None of the methods I found using the command prompt worked. I was surprised and elated the WinRAR archive/delete original worked. Thank you so much! Just saved me a reformat and days of backing up!

I use IObit unlocker if I can't delete a file or folder. It's portable and never failed me yet. That being said these are good alternatives thanks for showing us other ways.

I've tried all 5 of your suggestions plus many others to delete a strangely named file left in an extensive sub-directory scheme left by a program called Handy Backup. Nothing works. I'm now forced to format the drive and if that doesn't work, I'll delete the partition table.

The winrar tip is a good one for removing long file paths < 256 chars when all else fails

I had a folder and subfolder which I couldn't delete as W11 told me they didn't exist. Tried all these methods and a couple more. In the end I used 7-Zip, navigated to subfolder, renamed it "xxxx" and then deleted it; then did the same for its parent folder. The folders were all through my backups, so I had to do this for each backup set. Painful!

Amazing.. After two years plus, after all cmd prompt, God know how many programs who claimed to delete all and everything, finally I managed to delete unholy/undeletable folder with winrar.. Thank you very much!!

What’s the difference between deleting user profiles via system properties vs deleting them via file explorer?

deleteing users from file explorer is a big nono because there is stuff in other areas that wont be removed that way you might even still see the deleted user if you delete just the folder only

Very often I delete a file but it stays there for several minutes before it disappears and sometimes a folder containing *.exe files won't delete unless I've deleted the files first.

normally due to windows being dumb which you can press f5 or refresh to fix it faster and some reason if you run a exe it gets stuck in use even after you close it sometimes werid ik

I dual boot into Linux and delete it. It even allow me to view into the folder before deleting. I just did that moments ago. I had to remove some file left behind by OneDrive, I unlinked OneDrive Cloud backup, and move all my files from /Username/oneDrive/ to /Usename/. i hate how OneDrive and Xbox keep reviving after each windows update.

All files are technically undeleteable. The only way to truly delete something is to either overwrite the data with zeros or destroy the device on which it is stored.

To delete undeletable files in Windows 11/10 using the command prompt (CMD), you can try the following steps: Open the Start menu by pressing the Windows key Type run and press Enter Type cmd and press Enter again Enter del /f filename, where filename is the name of the file or files you want to delete Press Enter to execute the command

Nothing works !! 8 months ago I installed one of that crap toolkit stuff you've made a video about. It contains a subfolder called "Mount" with several subsub folders. With different methods I get a message containing "unvalid handle...". I tried it in safe mode, I tried with taking ownership, I tried unlocker - no way!
