Being a passionate user and a Gurkha expert, this one video of urs is enough to understand everything about this car. I used to follow Gurkhas right from the launch and hpy to see that you have mentioned all those strange things i've noticed in this car. With all these welcoming updates, gurkha is still ages behind. Rust prone body, same OM engines, 90's dual ac set up, cheap plastics, poor seating layout (sliding middle row or captain seats wud have been superb), scarce features and tat super heavy weight are still killing it. This is one car you love as much as you hate it. Thanks for this superb video....❤

Well cant say about because a lot of it depends on upkeep and weather condition but all aspects are a deliberate mo e to keep the car and as much niggle free as it possibly could. The engine has been a proven workhorse they have made significant improvements to it enough to make it a lil refine ironing out most of its flaws. Rest things nake sure it does go kaput with too electrical on board. Mind you this car has a functional snorkel and its water wadding capacity is more than anything else available in the market right now. With the car going into such a depth its essential to keeps things raw and minimal so that there can't be any electrical fault or a danger of interior ruining off completely in case water seeps inside the car. Ergonomics are great and its much spacious comfortable car than thar 5 door for sure.

I remember you putting out a short video around the launch time and then nothing. I wondered if you thought the upgrade didn't warrant a review. I am glad you took your time. The review is quite detailed though some of the technical stuff, though explained so well, went over my head. Excellent work. Of the things Force would need to change/improve in future iterations, is packaging. I still cannot believe that Gurkha having this huge expanse of space inside still manages only be adequate at best. The Center console where the middle passenger sits, needs to be shorted to liberate more space. I remember Phantom Lord's Gurkha where he opened up the whole console, there is enough clearance to make it much shorter. It needs a smaller and a bespoke steering wheel, specific only to the Gurkha. (May be add some basic audio controls to that too?) Force is already working on a 4x2 versions and an automatic (should have been developed and launched along side the 2024 iteration IMO). They have only said they cannot confirm the development of an automatic, not denied it, very clever. It probably will debut with a facelift and not before 2025 😁 The 4x2 though wont price down price by much. The Thar enjoys the benefit mostly due to the Tax break on the 1.5L engine than just ditching the 4x4 hardware. The same on the Gurkha would only warrant a smaller price drop and only on the 3 door variant. The seating I think Force have already homologated different seating layout, 2+2+2 and 2+3+2(jump seats) were also among them. What Force should do is offer seats that can fold into the floor (rather than fold tumble) or provide light removable seats like the c3 aircross. Also the difference in 2021 Gurkha and 2024 Gurkha length is probably due to Pintle hook. I read somewhere that the spare wheel is not considered in overall length of the vehicle, especially for tax purposes, not sure though. On a side note, along with the intricate details shared in terms of facts , figures, graphs, what I also observed in bump in audio quality and narration too. Keep up the good work. Hopefully will see the 2024 version in action on your channel soon :)

Since the cruising speed has increased, won't 6th gear, cruise control be useful additions? Given how good our highways are getting every day.. If yes, please add them to the list.. before Force Motors picks up the list to add in their next ppt.. 😁 I hope FM listens to its customers and bring out a new version by the time I'll have to upgrade my vehicle.. 🤞🤞

Thanks for putting out this video, top notch quality as always. Regarding the lambda sensor issue 12:25 which used to throw out an EMS ECU error (yellow light). I faced this issue repeatedly, almost 3-4 times. I used to get the sensor cleaned and the error erased with the diagnostic tool, nevertheless the error used to crop up again. Finally FM flashed the ECU and the problem never occurred again. I did ask what update it was but they refused to divulge much. All they said was it was a "module" update. Coincidently the engine now sounds a bit quieter, lowered rail pressure maybe? The 5D is a major hit. The deliveries in Pune if i am not wrong started somewhere in first week of June. The sole dealership here has sold more than 15 five door Gurkhas and two three door Gurkhas. This for such a vehicle is a feat. And while I am typing this, a 5D just arrived from Pithampur and is being prepped up for delivery. I belong to the "Family man category". I had to eventually buy a preowned Wagon R to ferry my then pregnant wife for her checkups. Prospective buyers, if you have aged parents with knee issues, they must think before buying one. People who frequent malls, please make a note that the Gurkha doesn't fit most of the underground parking owing to its height. With the carrier, its even worst. I have seen cases where people have crashed the carrier in underground parkings, in some cases even hitting the fire pipes. All in all, as you said, buying the Gurkha is a commitment and comes with its own set of riders. Otherwise its an excellent truck.

Thanks for the informative review. Great suggestions put across to Force on areas of improvement, keeping the buyer in mind. Rather disappointing to hear that the comfortable cruising speed would be around 100-110 kmph. I was hoping that the 5 door could do a relaxed 120 kmph cruise since I am actively considering buying the same.

110 is my safe threshold. Based on my comfort, driving style and the soft brake setup to stop the 2ton momentum. I don't know what the speed number might be for you. So try it out yourself and dont take my word for it. It could hold 120 easy. But should you?, is the question.

This is an amazing review sir. Hat's off!! I currently drive a Seltos Diesel and am not a fan of the overloaded interiors. I still prefer the basic dynamics and bare-bones interiors on my Sx4. I want to sell my Seltos and get the 5 door Gurkha. My utilisation is 50 percent in the city 40% highway and 10% trails that lead to my farmland on the hills, which is very rocky. I drive about 800+ kms in the city per month and a minimum of 500-1000kms on the highway, hills and trails. Would this vehicle be a good recommendation if i plan to use this a single car for the next 10 years. The seltos struggles on this trail and we end up parking the car well before my farm and walk. How expensive would the maintenance be in general in comparison to the seltos? I would really appreciate your feedback here. Thanks.

Watch the buying decision chapter of the video again Decide which pie sector (s) do you fit into ? As a single car garage , the Gurkha is good as long as you don’t need service /parts. Fit and finish is average. Big step down from Kia standards. it will keep you smiling as long as it’s in your farm. Park it there. Keep the Seltos for home /city.

As always, this is top quality stuff from you, Vignesh! Wish there were more of your kind of reviews for several other cars out there in the market. Question: you spent considerable time/effort/money modifying your BS6 2021 version, majorly mechanical in nature...how much less/more of it do you think you would have invested if you started off with the 2024 version? in other words, how would you rate the BS6.2 (stock) against your modified one, for your intended use case?
@tripaccino
@tripaccino Месяц назад
First, I myself wish there was more tech rich content like this which are able to dissect the cars for what they are and not just for speed thrills or drag races and tug of wars. I would love to review other cars as well. In fact, as a passion project, I do test drive new car launches and make my notes. Have never been motivated enough to convert them into proper reviews. primarily because, takers for this kind of content are still niche in our country. Next, Thanks for the interesting question. 1. Tripaccino's INeoS Grenadier video should set the background for this question's answer. In my mind, that 'project' by a billionaire captures the essence of the 'beast of purpose'. Im trying to build out a personal version of that customised to my requirements through strictly custom/ retrofit means. Hence what it lacks in factory integrated finishing, it makes up by being focussed on purpose. 2. My personal favourite Gurkha till date (even post 2024 BS6.2) is the Xtreme 2.2 140 SFA version. However, it was rough around the edges, even by Gurkha standards. Though it had a lighter 2.2 l motor OM611 derived and this fine gearbox, it had practical limitations to its extension as an all day truck.It was brutal and dominated off road, but the present G's would run circles around it On Road- in all day driving. It was truly Xtreme and the wild cousin of the G family - a Tarzan. I had considered actually building out on the Xtreme as a platform, but the reliability record of the 611 vs 616 favours the latter. 3. In the 24' stock 6.2, most 'market' 'complaints' have been addressed. Personally, most of them are not of value for me, except the following:- A. Engine and Turbo. B. Underbody architecture. C. Wishbone geometry. C. Wish bone geometry, I have re-worked with much effort, how the wheels are sprung and my present improved suspension setup on all four ends, would trump a stock 6.2 on and off road. but my version came after much iteration and effort and finger burns. B. Underbody architecture.The present layout is much neater and is more ruggedised because of better integration of few components together. Esp gear box transfer case section. This would have been useful for avoiding small cable cuts and irritating niggles while on the move. Small things like diff cable indicator popping off, while on trail, prop shaft bolts shear etc. These have been addressed better in this one. BUT. the simple breather system which we had for the transfer case and the diffs was easily traceable and helped in quick fixes, the present system is different and i prefer my version. The present architecture is almost Thar like, but heavier components. A. Engine and Turbo. This combo, along with the gearbox is perhaps what I really would be jealous of the new G. Its a good combo. Now I am comfortable , but If I ever find the need for more power, it is possible. But the gearbox would be a limiting link in the mechanical chain. I will have to work around and under this limitation. What I am happy that I didn't wait for the Stock 6.2:- A. The electronic dial for 4x4. The simple mechanicals are why I chose this 2021 as platform. I am not able to fully trust the reliablity and response under wear and tough environments of this shifter dial. Not enough One's were sold to get a track record. The stick shift, though gets stuck often with torque windup, was more straight forward for me. Adblue and SCR. The exhaust systems for BS6.2 is not clearly understood and most manufacturers are scuttling around to plonk a motley assortment of DPF and SCR into their car to clear the 6.2 requirements. Adblue behaviour in altitude and difficult environments because of the associated array of sensors is still not clearly understood by me to know the system well. LNT DPF shortcut my 2021 uses is no saint, and has its fair share of problems but I have stripped it out and figured it out. I understand the environment needs this., but one does miss simpler times of the past. Too many electronics creeping in because of BS6.2 standards requirements and market feedback. I am yet to figure out where is the lowest electrical component which would go bust while water wading. I strongly suspect this level is lower than the 2021 version, because of the architecture of the front end and dash. Electronics are gremlins and can hit you out there on the trail, unless it is backed by reliability and experience of the maker. 5 door, though better overall than the 3 door stock, doesn't appeal to me, as I had strictly short wheel base requirement. Hope that answers your interestin question. Share the channel with your crew.

@@tripaccino Thank you for such a detailed reply! I remember in one of your earlier videos, you had mentioned one of the changes you foresaw was the rotary 4x4 selector, and that's a reality now. In fact pretty much every change you predicted, has come to be. There's already talks of an AT (at least, that's what I read in TBHP), as you mention in the 'advice' section of this video. That has me wishing FM doesn't take all your advice seriously and come up with a 4x2 version with 'soft bits,' and dilute the 'essence' of the G. If MS can claim the Jimny isn't about volumes and deny there ever being a 4x2 version, FM should too. If they need volumes, perhaps export? Heard that a company in Europe is working on an EV with the G as the base. There's too many hatchbacks-on-steroids masquerading as 'SUVs' out there to satiate reviewers and buyers who need their soft bits, auto-everything and sunroofs for their drives to the malls and about. Don't think the G belongs with that crowd. What would be the point of a felt-wrapped sledgehammer?! 🙂 (pardon my rant)
@tripaccino

Trust me trust me when I say that I I am the principal advocate of the Gurkha staying true to its hard core fundamentals and never Ever offer a 4 x 2 variant and hence diluting its stature, and taking away the air of exclusivity that the few and fearless GURKHA owners enjoy. This was always my personal opinion and fundamental belief and even today if you meet me over a beer, that is the idea I would echo . Through this channel of tripPacino, however, I have a responsibility to analyse the situation, dispassionately and state what is ‘right’, regardless of my personal like and benefits associated with it. Here are some facts the 4x2 Mahindra Thar outsells all other variants put together and is a primary reason for the Thar going consistent 5000+ numbers every month. The 4x2 Fortuner outsells the 4 x 4 and legender put together. Every second car sold in India is a Maruti Suzuki and they can afford to make statements like this as Jimny is just a niche aspirational project they run on sidelines and can hold their breath longer underwater with this. Force motors sells one car . That’s the gurkha. I have been profusely, appreciating them ever since the launch of the first model of the Gurkha for having the conviction to offer a niche product as there only offering in the Pv segment. It is truly a blessing for many many function seekers Like myself and I have written about it and high detail in my team BHP review. My passion is clearly on showcase for the idea of what the Gurka stands for. Look at my analysis of the buyer demographic in this video and see if everyone needs a 4x4 in that pie 🥧. Back to reality. the Gurkha Gurka is selling less than hundred units a month. Do you think it makes financial sense for the 50 odd dealers around the country who have been hosting exclusiveGurkha dealerships that is simply built to sell only this one car - out of their invested capital . Do you think with the present sales numbers all of these details dealers will sustain in the long run if the already spares dealer network shrinks further it reduces the touch points for customers like you and die and we will have to wait for parts availability longer and trained mechanics in quality dealerships will be reduced to far and few in between. If the dealerships dwindle, I also fear how long the company can sustain making of a vehicle, which so few pick up and drive. Therefore, staring at what seems to be an existential crisis for our beloved gurkha. (Just like this channel with few takers ) Exports are already on and the applications are very niche and made to order in most cases … I have accounted for that also in my comprehensive analysis Introduction of a 4 x 2 model makes the entry point more accessible and we will get to see more examples on the road. We can sit on an ivory tower and claim that we are purists but the market dictates makers -and big, scary-Looking 4x2 is clearly what India wants. More vehicles on road. Slightly better volumes will keep the company and the dealerships Happy and ease out The logistic challenges associated in servicing parts and maintenance of just thousand cars in this big country. So when I made the suggestion to go for 4x2 trust me that I have kept a huge boulder on my heart shifted to 4 x 4 Lo climbed over the bolder and then made the suggestion . The 4 x2 just like Thanos , is inevitable. And confusing a 4 x 2 gurkha with a cute Ute and Hatches on stilts will be gross underestimation of what this bad boy with a Final drive ratio of more than 21 can do with a stock set of AT tires😸 hand to my heart , frankly that’s all what most of us need even on trails. If you are going further wild, and require the raw capability of 4x4, then you could always pick up the original G 4x4 which will continue to be on sale. , (thanks only to the 4x2 buyers who would have helped to keep it alive ) ///Forget the hatchbacks - those soft wood mallets, A felt wrapped HANDLE on this forged iron head , means more people (men, women ,young and old) will lift and swing the Sledgehammer. And the true joy of smashing the wall down , is when we all swing together! Yours Aye, Tripaccino

@@tripaccino You know the Gurkha/FM more than I can ever do, and gladly defer to your assessment. Whatever direction this goes in, I hope, the product continues to be owned/driven/tinkered with primarily by a community of gentlemen (offroaders, or otherwise), such as yourself. I'd like to believe, the G has been and become - the product, the aura - much due to this community's efforts. Yes please. Request full underbody review. Question 1 - can we replace the rear bumper? Would prefer to have the spare wheel attached to the rear bumper rather than have it fixed on the rear door. Question 2 - Would it be worth it to increase the tire sidewalls, ensuring there is space available in the wheel well? I would have preferred 16" wheels with more sidewalls rather than 18" wheels with less. Question 3 - Is it possible to replace the middle row bench seat with captain seats and keep the rear area for the luggage?
@tripaccino

1. Would add more weight. Inconvenient to open tail gate directly. Not required unless there is a need for a rear winch mount on the bumper. 2. This setup is fine for most uses. 18" gives more options in the market for swap. I run 16" with taller sidewalls for offroad requirements. 3.No. Mounting is on bolt. Not on rails. Would require heavy fabrication work. I would remove all seats for overlanding rig. If only 2 pax are reqd,

If I ever buy a 5-door, I would first remove the middle row seats and modify the floor mounts so that the rear captain seats can be brought to the middle with rails to slide them back and forth. There should also be a bare-bones version without the music system. I will be able to find a better aftermarket entertainment system with Android Auto. I would also change that horrible-looking steering wheel with an aftermarket one that has media control and phone answering options. With this configuration, the Gurkha will be an outstanding overlander.

I test drove the the 3 door last week. I'm 5 feet and noted a bunch of issues when it came to the seat not being movable, my sight clearance or rather lack there of over the steering wheel, I am absolutely unable to open the bonnet on my own and its not the weight my arm cannot extend the bonnet out fully to hook into place. I thought it was a short person problem but glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this. There were also a few other things like how much of a struggle it is to clip in the seat belt with the arm rest down and one must move it up to clip in. I also didnt like the fact that the the rear seats dont make a flat bed. Even the placement of the gear is an issue for me personally and if i get it I'll have to extend the shaft. Plus I was only able to drive it in the city in heavy traffic. Wonder if you know a showroom in North India where one can actually take it out for a proper test drive?
