Your profit is from the haulage only and the headache of selling the materials and sourcing the work is down to your client. Seems a shame to say goodbye to the artic. Sweet looking truck

If it doesn’t make money it doesn’t make sense. You need that as a company mantra. Have it on your wall , have it on your emails , have it as a mind set for all your employees. You might even get people who work for you giving ideas and pointing out these things . 👍

Danial. This new digital system should help you protect your bottom line and make a profit/loss analysis much easier. With the fluctuating fuel price are you able list and charge a fuel surcharge on a daily basis or each time you receive a fuel delivery and adjust accordingly? The walking floor trailer costs have to be passed on. Back in the day when we went from 32 to 38000kgs no one wanted to up the price/ tonne even though your fuel use, tax and wear and tear went up. If a customer doesn’t want to pay a decent rate, walk away. There plenty of fools out there that unfortunately will do their work. Hopefully you will pick up profitable work for the artic’s but selling is an option at this time. Not all gloom. It’s a very tough business you are in, not for the faint hearted for sure. Good luck, I feel your positive attitude and perseverance will see you through these difficult times. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇺🇸

Always worth waiting for weekly video upload. Will be sad to see Scania R500 go (if it ends up going up on sale), a personal favorite of mine. Loved the walk around detail video which was done for this unit. Hopefully we get to see it till EP100 :D. From 38.22-46.55 is by far best Ashville banter moment ever ( watched this bit several times over)...kind of felt like we were part of it in that container...Wilson with those rudeboy pew pew pew got me shooked 😂😂😂. Can we fix it?

Once upon a time we were looking at expanding our business (not as big as scale as Ashville though). We had a friend come in and look at what we were doing, checking the numbers asking us about our approach etc. Through it all we found that we did not need to expand our business. We just needed to get rid of the bottom 10% of our customers! They were the ones that always paid late, always wanted more, never created a referral and were a general pain to deal with. It felt scary to say no to business and we were shook! But once done we ended up with less stress, were more profitable and things made sense. Having someone outside the bubble looking in really helped bring that clarity.

It doesn't work as well in England, but a family friend of our used to say a pretty similar thing: "it it doesn't make dollars, it doesn't make sense" But if talking through those contacts leads to new jobs for your tippers then that may well lead to *long term* growth and even more jobs in the future.

surely an artic tractor unit is just that, if you have the cab it doesn't matter what it tows so you could rent them out when not in use, especially if you can rent truck and driver together, even if its just running trailers about for a supermarket or something, where I work our deliveries are pulled by all manor of branded and unbranded cabs even though DHL has the contract for the work.

Sending you lots of positive vibes and energy as I've notice the last two episodes you have seem extra stressed. I hope you make time for yourself too, self-care is important, even if its something small like quarterly full body massage. It's a shame may you have to downsize but at the same time it's refreshing and encouraging for other small business owners to focus on the bottom line (and do the proper maths) and explore all resonable options including reach out to industry contacts for advice/opportunities, rather than giving in, or make emotional decisions or blindly force something to work without making adjustments.
