If ever there was an appropriate time for the eyeball ring, this would be during Halloween

6:12 my husband did not ask my dad/parents, if he could marry me. He didn't even tell them before hand. He said "why would I ask or tell anyone before I told you? You're the one whose answer matters." It was nice because we had that bit of information just between us for another day, before we told everyone else.

I honestly cant wait for halloween, if I could celebrate halloween in September I would.

I personally didn’t give a hoot about having the traditional “asking for your hand.” I’d even said plenty of times to everyone that “I wasn’t cattle”, that both my dad and husband referenced it in their wedding speeches lol. I just wasn’t fussed either way. But, my husband did formally let him know/ask for my hand per say as he knows my dad is SUPER traditional that way and would appreciate it as I’m his eldest kid/only daughter. We were visiting for my dads wedding and his 50th birthday (on the same day) and it was the only time my husband could speak to him in person about it so my husband (bravely) did it then. Considering this was on his wedding day AND his birthday, my dad said that my husband asking for my “hand” was the best thing that happened to him that day 😂

The amount of sims that want to be your friend just because your sim is famous or their family member is famous is astonishing 😂

I basically called my fiancé’s mom and was like “hey I’m gonna propose if you want to share your opinion now is the time” 😂

As someone who made a few cobblers with farm fresh blueberries and peaches this summer, let me tell you, it's going to look like a pile of mush. And it's going to taste amazing anyway. I don't know how to make a good looking cobbler, but I don't know if I would trust one to taste good if it did. None of this excuses how awful most of the Sims 4 food textures are tho, lol

My brother called his fiancee's parents basically as a heads-up: "hey, I'm gonna ask her to marry me, I hope you approve but I'm not asking for permission" - probably phrased in a slightly gentler way than that! (He DID have to ask permission from his fiancee's cat, though. That was a requirement.)

Same I think it’s odd to ask the parents. Like boyfriends asking their gfs fathers for their blessing as if they have ownership over their daughter or smth lmao

This party was so good compared to any party thrown on the short lifespan generations challenge. Those parties were always the craziest and most hilarious episodes.

In my opinion, your family really doesn't get any say over whether or not you can marry someone. 🤷‍♀️ Whether they like them or not, it isn't them who has to spend the rest of their life with that person, so they don't really need to add their opinion

I have the same opinion on the engaging thing as you, Simsie. It’s cute to involve the family in it and stuff but it’s kinda not their decision if their child gets married or not. I think it also kinda depends on traditional things and religion but I think if I had a partner and they would have to ask my parents first if they could marry me I wouldn’t like it bc I like kinda don’t care if my parents approve or not bc it’s my partner and I‘m getting married and not them. It’s sounds terrible but I think you know what and how I mean it, don’t you? It’s kinda hard to express feelings through texting without seeing facial expressions and all that so I hope you can at least kind of see what I‘m trying to say here.

I love Halloween even if I don't really decorate for it or go out. I mostly love it for the goodies and I watch scary movies that night more than any other night.

Regarding on the whole ‘asking for blessing’ things, I think it depends on culture too? Here in my country (Indonesia) it’s extremely important to ask for parents’ blessing before asking a daughter for marriage. We even have a formal engagement celebration where both sides of the family came together. The soon-to-be-groom will talk in front of everyone, asking permission to marry the girl. Here they’ll receive words of wisdom, in some tribe they will count their birth dates to decide if other ceremony is needed, etc. Even picking the wedding date they have to check with the elders too, to make sure they choose a ‘good’ day. Well nowadays the whole thing will go like this: The man asking for blessing from the girl’s parents - propose to the girl - the ‘formal celebration’ of proposing (that involve both families) - engaged!! We believe that marriage is uniting two families as one, so its important to have a family blessing!

As someone who just got engaged. My fiancé showed off the ring to literally everyone when he got it and said he wanted to propose. He didn’t “ask for permission” and I think that’s a weird thing to do anyways, like Kayla said, it’s not up to anyone else.

For blessing to marry, at least in my family the person proposing never really asks 😅. Usually mom or dad or elder pulls aside the person outside of the family and let’s them know “Hey we like you, if you want to marry our child/into our family you have our blessing.” It’s just a general we really like you so if you want to just know we like you 😅. But, then again my family stays in relationships for a LONG time before getting married (5 years minimum). We have few outliers but, usually it’s a minute. I think it’s nice.

About asking parents before a proposal: I don’t think I would want a permission, but I want them to be like, do you think I am a good person for your kid? Because in the end only I know if it’s a yes or no, but my parents have historically shown to know what’s is good or not.

Proposals... well, it depends on the relationships, if any. Personally, Im super close to his family more than my own or what's left. I like the idea of some traditional ways, but I have no parents. So I asked his parents instead 😁

On parents and engagement, when we got together with my parents after we got engaged, my husband mentioned that he hadn't talked to them about it, and my Dad said "And I would have thought less of you if you had, she is my daughter, not my possession". it made me very happy. It was still very much a common thing to do then, I would hope it's very much not the norm for young people nowadays (oh I feel old!)

That bug at the beginning where April was doing her homework while not physically doing her homework is really similar to the bug I've had in my game since March that has only been resolved by disabling Laundry Day entirely. Which is such a bummer because the Build/Buy in that pack is so good.

@6:12 my partner and I decided on marriage together YEARS before getting engaged. While I don’t NEED my parents approval, it’s just nice to have their blessing + my partner formally asking for their permission was definitely brownie points since they’re traditional.

My now husband asked for my parent’s blessing and I think that is so sweet. I knew my parents would approve, of course, but I know every situation is different. I’m so glad that he asked for their blessing. Traditional southern family here 😅❤😂

6:04 so my mom became so pessimistic about my fiancé and I getting engaged before I graduated that he didn’t ask her because he was afraid she’d give it away by being less pessimistic. She was a little mad but is ultimately helping me make all our decorations sooo… I would have liked a hint I would have showered and worn a cuter outfit but beyond that. Also to the point of getting engaged in school, irl I was a year from graduating and he has two-ish years yet, so we will be waiting till after he’s out to honeymoon. My hubby and I have been together 17 years, I'm from a BIG traditional Italian family. He had to not just ask my Dad, but my gramps and my 4 uncles. 2 of my uncles asked him why? And told him to run because my family is loud and crazy. He had been to every family holiday for 5 years as my friend, then became my boyfriend. After we started dating, my Mother and my Aunts asked him when he was going to ask for my Hand. Told them as soon, and he asked the Guys in the family. It was a funny draw out thing, but 17 years later we are married and happy. He had fun following our traditions as well.

If there's anything I've learned from my own experiences, it's that people are going to do what they're going to do, and there's next to nothing you can do to stop them. Including marrying whoever you want. It's uh... alarming. I mean, like, what if something bad happens? But that's real life. In the Sims, you just embrace the drama. Ooh, that guy married that girl. I wonder how well they'll get along and how long it'll be until one of them cheats. So yeah, drama simulator, Kayla! I live for this stuff.

I think its actually really cute to ask the parents for their blessing because it means they respect your parents enough to wan their blessing and if they don't get it that fine you can still propose because it really doesn't matter. Its more of a respectful thing to me

Queer household here - I proposed 3 times. The first was six months into our relationship, with a cheap ring. The second was a year or so later, with a better ring. The third was after it was finally legal for us to get married. In all times, neither of us talked to our family about it. My spouse's family are very religious and don't approve of the whole gay thing, and mine just... don't like it when I do something other people might not approve of. When we got married, my family were there, but no one from their family came. We do now speak to their family, on a limited contact basis, and mine are finally accepting my spouse as part of the family. We've been married 8 years, and together for 15. But I think with Sims family stuff, it's cute to involve the family, especially as you know they're going to be fine with it.

I am definitely a little weirded out by the whole “ask for permission” thing because agree it’s not up to someone’s parents. But I do think asking for their *blessing* or support is sweet. Like to me it’s not if you say no I won’t ask but like here are my intentions it would mean a lot to us if you supported us.

As like a traditional cute gesture that's more about the gesture than it is about asking, I can see why people would find asking the parents for blessing a cute lil ritual, but otherwise, I think it's absolutely stupid if in a serious way. I grew up in a horrible home so I very much do not believe in the idea that blood family is everything and you should worship them just bc you're related. Real family is who you choose, like the person you marry. So the idea of asking a parent for permission to be with someone is GROSS to me tbh bc no the only person you should be asking consent from is the person you're asking to marry. That's it. No one else should have control over your romantic relationships like that when you're two grown adults, super hate that mentality, people forcing themselves to be indebted or only listen to certain people for arbitrary reasons makes my blood boil tbh society has too much of that crap and it makes us miserable lmao

About asking for permission to marry, my husband and I one night decided that it would be fun to get engaged and went to buy ring next day. When I showed my mum the ring she said 'Cool, how much salad do you want with dinner?' and it was the most her style response ever 😂 My mum in law cried for 15 minutes straight when she saw the ring (but I shed a tear when she got engaged so we're even 😂). But also we had only our witnesses on wedding, so there was 4 of us (yay for panini wedding, we didn't have to make any party) and I know we're quite unconventional.

Every persons experience and wants are different. I, on the other hand, somewhat made it a requirement 😅 I am very close to my family (not saying anyone who does it differently is not close to their family) and it is something that my parents always wanted. So out of respect for their wishes, I told my current fiancé he had to ask my dad. He drove a hour plus to meet him and talk and it went well! They got to know each other on a more personal level and it was really good for their relationship! That was our experience! Glad we got to hear yours!! I personally love hearing about your personal life🤣 but it’s probably cause I’m nosey lmao

My fiancé asked my mum, my dad and my step dad before proposing 😂 it meant a lot to me as I’m super family oriented but I completely understand how it’s old fashioned. But my family all love my fiancé so it was never going to be any other answer than yes. Tbh, my fiancé said he only got out “I have a question to ask you” to my mum before she was like YES YES YES 😂😂

Sorta speaking of occult Sims, it’s kinda funny to me that they react to meeting an Alien, but a werewolf, vampire and spellcaster is completely fair and it seems to almost offend them if you ask if they are a mermaid. Maybe it’s just me, but an alien isn’t the weirdest of these to me. I mean all I have to believe is that another planet is further along than us in space travelling. But werewolves? The closest we have is cameleons and butterflies maybe? So yeah, a rampaging werewolf in Starbucks would be a weirder day than an alien dumpster diving.

Honestly, if the pastor asks "who gives this woman" (I don't think my daughter will have this) I'm going to answer, "nobody she owns her own damn self."

Re: asking parent's for blessing. IRL, it feels super weird to me. My partner didn't ask or even really tell my parents when we were getting engaged, but I think it would have felt ridiculous since we've been together years and it just seemed obvious. In the Sims, it's nice to have anything that sort of builds those family connections. I don't think I would have chosen that particular interaction. I think a relatable, kind of silly option could've been something like asking when another Sim is going to propose/ get married- you know, in that way that older family members seem to overstep when you're in a committed long term relationship- and it could potentially be a negative interaction or make things awkward, etc.
