12:17 they probably added the hole in the bottom so it wouldn't explode lol, if the clay is more than an inch or so thick it can explode in the kiln so all ceramic sculptures and stuff need to be hollow

I don't know if anyone's commented this yet but the reason there's a hole in Janets' cat dish is because large chunks of solid clay are a no-no! If the clay is too thick it can explode in the kiln, so thank the instructors for double-checking that ☺
