Forcing Pre-chilled Spring Flower Bulbs Inside - In this video I go over how to plant pre-chilled (cold-treated) spring flower bulbs to use them inside. It is pretty simple to do as long as the bulbs have been cold treated the appropriate length of time. They can also be placed outside in the sun on days that the pots will not freeze solid.

Thanks for info. I forgot to plant some tulip bulbs outside and thought I would force. Your info saved me time as now I know I don't have enough cold time. So I will hope they flower outside in the pot they are in.

I planted almost 200 bulbs outside. This is the first time I planted tulips and it has been -20 outside of course. I am hoping I got some hardy ones.

I am conducting an experiment this year. I'm z5b. I planted a bunch of tulip bulbs in pots and then sunk the pots into my raised bed where I grow tomatoes in the summer. I covered them with leaves and put wire baskets over the top of them to keep the squirrels from stealing them. My hope is they will emerge in the spring and then I can move the entire pot from the raised bed into decorative planters in the front yard. But we have quite some time before Spring here. P.S. I love amaryllis. They make the dead of winter more bearable.

I’m zone 4 and did the same- planted close to 200 tulips in every pot I could find, took them out to a friend in the country as I didn’t have enough room to store them. He covered them all with tarps, straw, leaves, branches and brought them back to me in the spring - what a gorgeous display - and what a good friend!

@@janeti6149 Indeed that is one good friend. The experiment was successful. The hardest part was trying to figure out what to do with them all once they were done blooming. I spent a lot of time trying to plant them out in the yard after that!

Hello Jim: Where can we buy top grade large spring flowering bulbs to pre chill or companies that sale prechilled bulbs? I did not know if there where spring bulb produces that had the grade and quality: large bulbs? I am thinking about raising spring bulb flowers as a crop on our small farm, I know of most of the suppliers for the home gardener but I am interested In finding a supplier of florist grad bulbs that bloom. Hi Jim, I'm in zone 9 and some tulips I bought at a big box store and planted in late December have already bloomed. I plan to dig them up and bring them indoors. Is this something that can be done after they have already bloomed. It will be an experiment to see if they survive.

Great information!!! We have tons of tulips and kept them in our garage. We bought them from big box stores. We planted some last year but never cold treated them 😬 they did come up. But now I’m wondering if these tulips should be cold treated? Second time around new to this. So should we cold treat them or just go and plant them, with how late we are in planting them? 💚💚💚💚💚💚

This is one of the most informative videos! Thanks, Jim. Mid October...going to chill daffodil bubs in frig. until mid January. Then I'll start forcing them in intervals. Will do two weeks in garage as suggested. Do paper whites every year for Christmas.

Do you have to put them in the Refrigerator if you plan to put them in pots for outside? I live in Sacramento, CA. Our winter gets down to 40*-50* at night Thank you 😊
