Hi David, do squirrls also eat alliums? I hope not, I just planted lots 2 weeks ago in my new garden. Today I go a big bag of bulbs. I force bulbs for x-mas. Bulbs in the fridge now ,for 6 weeks, then plant or put them in my glases for amarilis and hyacints and there is instant Joy for christmas. I will use Soaps on the Rest of the bulbs. Thank you for the Video. Nice seeing you. Take care. 🙂👍
Hi Marie, yes they can eat them. I recommend grating some flakes of soap with the bulbs as this deters the squirrels both by scent and taste. There are some really good ecologically friendly soaps that you can get that are approved by the soil association.
@@daviddomoney hello David, thank you so much. I have to see if I can get that kind of Soap in germany. Today I have put out seeds and nuts to save my bulbs. 🙂 thanks again and stay safe. Marie
Hi. I enjoyed your excellent video. I have a question. I'm in zone 7b, Alabama. I ordered crocus and mountain lavender lilies, received them in excellent shape but could NOT plant them when I needed to. I guess I didn't store them in a cool enough temp because they've sprouted. It's mid December with no freezing temperatures in sight. Should I plant them anyway? Will they bloom in spring? I'm at a loss. Also, I have daffodils and blue grape hyacinth that I planted at the right time...I thought...and they've all grown about three inches tall so far. I think that even though planting instructions said plant right away, I should have stored them until cooler weather before planting. I'm a newbie as you can tell but I LOVE the idea of bulbs and thinking about them as an investment. Oh yeah, my garlic is 10" tall now. I planted as instructed but it warm weather caused them to grow. I don't know if next year is going to bring flowers and garlic or not now. Lol. Any information you could share on any of these I would appreciate. Thanks.
Hi. I accidentally uncoverd a bulb and now I dont know which side is up or down. There is pin green protrusions on onw side and hornlike growths on the other side(its becoming summer in SouthAfrica). Help
I live in California and I kept waiting for the last frost here. So far it hasn’t come. It’s now February and we are going into 80 degree weather. Is it too late to plant my allium bulbs. I’m going to plant them into a large container. Can I still do it?
Nice info but what about thinking global so that you don’t sound like the northern hemisphere is the only hemisphere. Im in the Southern Hemisphere where Christmas is not in the middle of winter. Will not follow this RU-vidr. Search goes on!
Try ignoring the word Christmas and think in terms of seasons...we all have them; whether we are in the southern or northern hemisphere. David is based in the UK so maybe you should find a horticulturist who is based where YOU live.
@@glendadowsett9423 thanks I have - a Californian who talks like he knows his audience is international :) - when you're on the internet it's😀 the WORLD WIDE Web, not the Northern Hemisphere Web. But hey Happy Christmas ie snow and reindeers not prawns and barbies.
