I had them replace the cam solenoid on the exhaust side of both banks. This solved that rattle sound you hear. Changed the shifting of the transmission and turned the car into a different beast all together. All of the little issues with the transmission disappeared.
Love your videos!! Just got a 2022 GT as I mentioned in your other video.. I was a little worried about that whine but now you’ve made me feel alot better!! Thank You J!! Keep the great videos coming!! I enjoy them! I want that gt350 track pack spoiler you got as seen in the other video haha.
I own a 2021 mustang and approve all points. When I don't let him idle, move forward a little bit and then break immediately, it kicks me from back (i think because of rising rpm)
I have this 3-4 3-5 "holdback" shifts.. like the car is holding back then shifts, like 1-2 seconds hesitation. It happens randomly in all drive modes and D/S gears. I used to have it on cold starts only however, lately ive been driving more agressive on track mode and S gear. I think ill do KAM reset and hope it fixes it..
@@ericd1632 KAM = Keep Alive Memory, its the little things the transmission learn i.e. shifting points, your driving style etc.. and along with other parameters. Sometimes with different driving i.e. rough, calm then rough then someone else drive, it learns too much and becomes messy. You do a KAM resent to let it learn from zero basically. If you have a tuner device you can reset it withing 5 seconds, if not you can do the battrey method.
Have it flashed or reprogrammed. Its a learning system. I changed the fluid with a filter changer at 40k miles. There was no contamination in the pan. So far the truck shifts smoothly.
Hey guys my car makes like clunking sound when coming to a stop I got my valve body transmission replaced but it keeps on doing it not as frequent as before but it’s still there I need help finding out the what problem is.
Love the video..those sounds I get the same ones the whine and rattling. Few days ago I put my car in drive coming off reverse and didn’t let it engage.. it idol then finally jerked into gear kinda scared me lol
I have the 3-5 jerk (and clunk sound) even if the car is not cold which seem to happen randomly. Braking from speed to complete stop will make the car hard shift from 3 to 1 with small jerk. Shifting from N to D/ N to R will 80% of the time make the car jump a bit and clunk sound. My idle RPM is around 650 to 800. I lost hope to fix them...
2020 GT AT - I have exact the same issue shifting 3-5th gear when in normal mode and not putting much pressure on the throttle. Also when I drive in Sport or Sport+ mode, the gear change between 2-3 is very harsh, no matter how light or heavy I put my foot on the throttle. Have not taken it to dealer yet.
i put the ford performance tune on my ranger, after having it for a few hundred miles it shifts sooooooooooooooooooooo much smoother than stock tune. the shifts are silky smooth now. 3rd to 4th is still a little funky on cold but other than that my worries have disappeared about it. i changed my tranny fluid @ 30k miles and put a PPE tran pan on it. the tune makes it crazy fast too
Bucking is normal in sport mode at low speed, so is the throttle sensitivity. Drive mode is for normal driving, sport tries to optimize the shifting to keep the engine in the powerband as much as possible and downshifts for engine braking instead of coasting.
Just traded in my 2020 Eco boost for a 2021 GT premium California Special. Both auto 10-speeds. I had to have the replaced in the Ecoboost. It feels like the 10-speed in my new GT feels like it’s slipping sometimes and hesitates to upshift when trying to go from a slow crawl into slow acceleration in traffic unless I give it a decent amount of gas. Any suggestions/ thoughts? Car is new not used
I have the same issues on my 2021 GT, hesitates to go from 1st to 3rd on light acceleration. Only 2500 miles on car and I’m very frustrated between the transmission whine and the hesitation to shift. Going to take in this week and see what happens. Hopefully they can get me some answers because this is not normal no matter what anybody says
That noise after the rev at the beginning of the video, it's the driver side cam solenoid. If you get someone to Rev it while you put your hand on the driver side solenoids, you can feel it pounding away on decel.
@@JVette01 my local dealership didn't want to fix it on my 2020 mustang, so I traded it in. There are some vids on RU-vid from ford boss me where he changed them out on a f150 5.0. Anyways, keep up the good content!!!
Just saw your video. Thanks. I have a '23 Mach1 with the 10r80, only got about 2100 miles on it and it just started doing this almost clunking or grinding noise on downshifts, usually around 5th to 4th, there's a little jerk that goes with it. Sometimes it happens second to first. Dealer tells me it's normal but I really don't think so. Any thoughts? Is that the same noise you said you were hearing?
i exactly have that same noise similar to what your experiencing but cant seem to find the answer to this. i drove my buddies mach 1 2021 and doesnt have that clunking noise when downshifting or sometimes when you upshift
Hi there. Recently got a 2018 ecoboost mustang with 10r80. Drives pretty smooth on heavy throttle and on highways. But when i drive it in the city and i am light on the throttle i feel the shift go in at around 30mph. Nothing crazy but that is the point i feel it the most. Like some light back and forth of the car. After that it goes back to smooth again and i might feel it back when it downshifts to a stop but not as frequent as the acceleration part. Should i take it to the dealer just for this or no? The previous cars i drove never noticed something like this but they were not 10r80 transmisions.
It’s not unusual to feel the first few shifts in the 10 speed, and to feel it downshift. It should not be harsh though. If it’s excessively harsh, just take it in and explain what it’s doing. They will most likely just reset your adaptive learning tables.
Yeah, unfortunately the 10 speed is not 100% smooth in the EcoBoost. I am used to the characteristics and know how to drive it to where it feels smooth, so just learn the characteristics and how to go about it
Hows the transmission holding up? im waiting for the inflation to go down before buying a used mustang gt pp1 in 24 months from now cash and im kinda worried if it will last 10+years
Id really test drive it good the jerkyness of the 10 speed might be to much for ya. I have a ecoboost stang with the 10 speed and its really a drama queen.
I have switched dealerships as their top mechanic says my 2020 trans aggressive gear shifting up and down is normal and reprograming or flashing is not the answer. No codes, no issues. ….update….2023 trans was rebuilt, most issues resolved, 2024 issues coming back again! Three weeks ago, battery dropped down to 8v and nothing would start. Replaced battery, all issue of the trans stopped! Smooth shifting all the time!!!
@@JVette01 I have a 2020 Mustang GT Premium California Special. I ordered it with everything! And the trans shifts hard from 3-4 and the other day it was jumping between 8 and 4. It felt like I was riding a rumble strip out of the blue. After a few shifts it stopped. No codes, no nothing
@@JVette01 I've had my 2020 ecoboost stang flashed 3 times now and its actually getting worse. Its now starting a habit of wanting to lurch forward on braking and its almost caused accidents. It clunks in from reverse to drive everytime and its stalled on me a few times. 12k miles on it.
I just had the entire transmission assembly replaced on my 2020 F150 under warranty. Only 26,000 miles. Internal failure causing a severe 1-2 slip when cold, as well as erratic shifting. I think it's time people stop making excuses, and talking about "clearing adaptive tables". Lets face the facts here...The 10R80 transmission is a poorly engineered, poorly manufactured pile of garbage. It's not a good transmission, nor is it a reliable transmission. It's crap, plain and simple. The amount of issues with these things since their initial use has led to a class action lawsuit being filed against Ford Motor Company. A properly operating transmission shouldn't whine, slip, grind, jerk, or have any other abnormalities that Ford would consider "inherent qualities". Ford dropped the ball on this one, big time. It won't happen anytime soon, but they really need to start from the ground up and design a more reliable, properly functioning transmission to the replace the 10R80.
I have a 22 F150, under 8k miles, already been brought in 3 times for rough shifts. terrible skip/jerk going from stop to 2, then to 3, also feel every downshift from 5th gear to 1
I went to test drive a 2018 eco boost mustang with 32k miles. And the transmission literally blew up during the test drive !! Even the gear knob exploded into pieces. Craziest experience.
I have a 2020 Mustang GT that downshifts really hard into 3rd when on the brakes and coming to a stop if when its in Sport+ mode or if I have the shifter in sport mode, Almost like it keep the rpms high before downshifting to 3rd and it feels like getting hit from the back of the car. It doesn't do this in normal or any of the other modes. Do you think its a transmission issue? or the factory computer tune in the car when it's in these driving modes?
in the Morning, You have to warm up 5 minutes before driving. its a Power engine and components needs to be WARM. if you warm up 5 minutes it will NOT jump
About halfway through the video you mentioned the issue with mine which is when its downshifting, it'll pull and lunge and it seems worse the slower the speed so its the worst when I'm almost to a stop or to take a sharp turn, it hangs or pulls and then shoves me forward. I brought it into the dealership and they reset it and that fixed it for less than a day and then it started happening again so I am bringing it back in. Any ideas on what it specifically is or what I should suggest to them?
My boss has a 2018 F150 with the 10 speed transmission. He always throws it in neutral and as he enters our yard and coasts to his parking spot. He complains about his transmission all the time saying it is clunky. The dealership cant find anything wrong with it. Would putting it neutral everyday qnd coasting for 50 feet before coming to a stop be effecting his transmission? Thanks
I drive an explorer for work. 7000kms and it does all of the problems spoken about here. Right from zero. In addition my off idle acceleration is too much....even when hot. Only after hours of running does it stop taking off at idle. Horrible transmission.
Wish there was a way, with the 10R80, to do a "tunnel rev". On the C8 Corvette you can just pull back on both shift levers, when you want to do a "tunnel rev". I realize that this may be do to the fact that the C8 has a dual clutch automatic.
Awesome video. Australia now offers the Ford transit chassis Ute in 10sp auto. I had to put up with all my previous ones with manual. So the issues it the jerkiness, but not that it fails? I could put up with that If that is the case.
I'm having a problem with 2021 GT. When I change gears from D to R the car jumps a little. I took it to the dealer and they didn't do nothing to fix the issue.
My wife has 2020 Ecoboost and it does the same thing. They flashed the cpu and reset the adaptive learning and it still does it 2 months later. Seems to only do it when cold. How about yours? Any progress?
So mine is a base model. When I put it into the s mode and dont use the paddle shift mode. It shifts so hard and down shifts hard as hell as well. Is that normal?
Very informative video. Thank you for this. I do have a question though. I have a 2021 F150 5.0. On cold starts it revs higher (1,200 rpms) like all vehicles do and calms down after 20 seconds or so. But even when it sits for 10 minutes and then starts again, it revs at that 1,200 for a bit even at normal operating temperature. And insight on that?
@JVette01 Have you heard anything about asking the mechanics to clear the learning tables and then turn off the adaptive learning? Been reading that some guys say that helps everything run way smoother
My 2017 F150 shutters when going through 4th gear during a slow to moderate acceleration. Heavy acceleration does not experience this. Sometimes I feel/hear a banging sensation while shifting. Any ideas? I have the 3.5 Eco.
What about when I’m at a stop and I start going and it shift kinda harsh from 1-3 gear sometimes 4 that’s one thing I noticed about my 5.0 f150 21??? Is that normal ?
@@JVette01 yeah that’s why I can’t believe ford dropped the ball on the f150 I don’t know about the mustang since I haven’t driven one but hopefully ford updates the shifts or maybe a tuner but I would have to wait till my warranty is out.
Thank you for this. But I do have a question. My car is 5.0 10 speed mustang. If i rev it while I am in (N) and when the rpm goes down if I change to (D) the gear will have a knock sound and the car is like jumping forward. Is that normal or not. This only happens when i rev it in N or P
'18 F-150 5.0L: I have a harsh 3-5 upshift (when it does hit 4 gear it's very short) and harsh downshifts with all gears downshifting from 6. Have had the truck in to the dealer once who did a flash/re-learn on the transmission, however, still not smooth at all. Nowhere near the smoothness of my '14 Raptor with 6-speed.
@@JVette01 I have a 2019 Camaro ZL1 with supposedly the “same transmission” and it is a night and day difference with how smooth it is compared to my 2018 F-150. Can’t feel any gears in the ZL1 but my body literally jerks back and forth when up and downshifting in my F-150
@aLilBabyOtter still the same. Chalk it up to another poorly made Ford transmission. Kept trying to add gears to make things more “fuel efficient” but in turn compromised functionality.
@aLilBabyOtter mine will also get smoother after warming up but it’s still choppy when downshifting. Guess that’s what I get for buying a first year model. Didn’t think a 2018 vehicle would have so many issues with a transmission. It’s sad really…
I have a 2019 5.0 Premium PP1, and I noticed there is delayed engagement when I change the transmission shift lever into DRIVE. Has anyone run into the same problem and how they fix it?
I have an 18’ eco I got used in July and when I got it the clutch was grinding mind u it’s auto and it eventually went out like three weeks later. It goes in and gets fixed it was about two months until I got it back in October but when the transmission warms up a decent amount maybe around 100 degrees I’ll have it in park and when I put it in drive it kinda like shoves it into gear and shakes u and the car. The ford dealership says it normal but what do u think?
@@JVette01 yea man my parents say it’s not normal either but I thought maybe since the clutches were replaced and new I thought it was normal, ford said drive it for 1000 miles so it learns how u drive I’m almost there but honestly the shifting seems to be getting worse
I also got the evap/purge valve replaced like a month ago and it’s dropping the rpms still It will only happen when I’m sitting at a light or drive thru, I did notice today tho when I was just driving Casual the rpms jumped a bit but maybe it got confused on a gear since it is a 10r80 lmao
Can anyone help me out not sure what’s the issue. I have a 10R80 trans and when shifting up in gear it revs up then changed gear. Car has 40k miles not sure if it needs a new trans fluid change
More than likely it's not fine mechanically. Mine had the same issue. The entire transmission assembly was replaced under warranty at a whopping 26,000 miles. Once my extended powertrain warranty is up, that truck is going bye-bye. The 10R80 transmissions are junk. They can't even make it to 50,000 miles without a major failure. Ford screwed thousands of their customers with these garbage transmission units. This will be the last Ford truck I purchase unless that 10R80 gets replaced with a more reliable transmission.
Every time I come to a stop my car jerks almost every time it’s not a really bad jerk but you can definitely feel it idk if it’s downshifting hard or it’s the breaks Iam not to educated on it can someone explain? If you know pls it would help out a lot
@@JVette01 It happens about 80 to 90% of the time when I come to a complete stop but never happens when iam slowing down from high speeds usually 25 mph and under
Same here, i have the same exact issue my car has 12k miles so basically new. 2018. Model. What could be the solution to this, have you attempted anything to fix it?
Normal for this transmission: Rattling, whine, hard 7-6 and 4-3 downshift, wont go in reverse below 50 degrees on cold start. Ford dealer will tell you thats "normal". NOT normal in transmission common sense: All of the above.
I’ve got a ‘20 Explorer with the 10 speed. Whining, jerking, searching for the right gear - it’s a disaster. Complete turd transmission. Truck has 30k mi on it and have had it to dealer 4 times. I’d maybe try a Super Duty but never another Ford with the 10 speed. There’s an active class action lawsuit regarding this pos tranny.
