On the no thermostat, we used to put a fender washer in place of the thermostat with a half inch hole drilled through it instead of running with nothing at all. Old flat head trick.
I have a Ford 1700 it's a really fantastic Tractor for moving trailers around. I put a ball hitch on the front weight Rack and I use it all the time for moving trailers. it's really fantastic
That would partially be wrong, Cummins had an issue with some engines where they thought running water through slower would let it absorb more heat.... well it did... and did not get that hot water out of the block fast enough. Its best to circulate it faster. If you hook up a tractor to say a PTO generator, have the same load on it, and have a 2 or 3 speed PTO, put it at a higher engine rpm same pto rpm, see temps, then change to a lower rpm same pto rpm (higher gear) it can run hotter even though the engine is at a lower rpm, but that is mostly due to fan and air speed and efficiency can also be blamed.
