I had an issue with my EBP sensor...except it wasn't that it failed, it was that it broke off. Don't know how, but it did. Was going to relocate it it and remove the whole pipe (EGR is long-gone) but due to time I simply cleaned the surrounding areas (sooty!!) and installed the new part. Truck came alive after that! I hadn't noticed the progressively-worsening throttle response and MPG loss. Runs like a champ now. I love my 6.4!
Hi, I want to personally thank you for this video. My problem was just as you described. Loss of power, dropping fuel economy. I thought my turbo was needing replacing. Took a chance bought the tube sensor assembly $79.00 on ebay. removed the old sensor / tube was clogged tight with carbon. Cleared the manifold fitting with a 3/16 drill bit. Installed the new sensor/tube assembly and back to normal. Power on acceleration better than ever.
My 08 6.4 now has 460k! Had Jasper build up my engine and trans 3 yrs ago. Currently having similar issues as you have described. Will try replacing sensor and cleaning tube port as you recommend. Will keep you posted.
Incredible videos sir. Your full of awesome information. Your line of professionalism is a dieing breed. And can only hope others are following your footsteps. Thank you..
He gave up because he did not understand how it work. I have a neighbor with a 2008 6.4 with 146k miles. It run run great. I just uploaded a video of this truck.
Thanks for your help. My 2008 F550 6.4L was sluggish, not boosting, several codes. I changed out the EBP Sensor and also the MAP Sensor. FIXED! Awesome! Thanks!
Great vid, I pulled my ebp tube off cleaned it put back on and nothing still only getting 7.1 in the city hand calc. No EGR,DPF, and running a h&s mini maxx. I'm at a loss
Yep! Had a problem with mine, it was missing really bad. Dealer wanted $1000 to change it, I took off the sensor and cleaned it. It worked great again.
Funny you should bring this up Bill... I live in Michigan where it's been around zero degrees for the last few weeks. When it's this cold my back pressure sensor does not read right. Condensation freezes in the tube and messes up my reading, which messes up my vgt actuator... Insane boost at very low throttle. Thanks to my Dashboss I can pick up on it right away. I've been un plugging my vgt actuator to lower boost. i don't want that really high boost pressure wrecking my engine!
Bill, love your videos! Could I ask you a favor do a series of videos on say the top 10 things to check when buying a used power stroke. IE; check old level in the 6.4 to see if it's high or low. Leaks around water pump. Etc etc etc
I had the same problem with mine 2008 F350 6.4 all has ben deleted H&S mini max mild tune I was driving and lost power and like you said it takes a lot to get up and go now I replaced the part done in about 15 mins total time truck is fixed!!!!!!
I have a 2008 6.4 powerstroke diesel truck. It is DPF and EGR deleted, SCT TUNER mild daily driver tune. All brand new Ford oem fuel injectors, injector harnesses, all new rocker arms, new glow plugs. All done by a reputable diesel mechanic. My problem is after about 2 weeks it started smoking. It only smokes at idle or anything under 1000 rpm. The truck runs great no problem except white smoke coming out of the exhaust. It doesn't use oil and doesn't use any coolant either. I cleaned the air intake tube, new filters everywhere, both fuel filters, oil filter, air filter. What could this be. Does my truck have a PCV VALVE? Could it be the EBP? Maybe MAF? I don't know what to check or how to check or test these. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!! Also, my truck was completely checked out for any issues by the mechanic and everything looked good while he had it apart working on it. It has 200,000 miles, but less than 500 miles on all the upgrades and mechanic work I mentioned. I also thought maybe the tune is off a little bit causing it to smoke at idle and under 1000 rpm. It doesn't smoke at all until it is at operating temperature. But even at operating temperature it doesn't smoke at 1000 rpm or higher.
Bill, help me figure this out as no one can....I have a 2008 6.4 drw with 25,000 miles on it, yes 25k. I NEVER see better than 11.5 mpg on highway and 9.5 city. My truck is stock, and I do not beat it. Its mostly babied not towing or hauling anything. I find it crazy that you just mentioned in this video 18 mpg.
Thank you sir you greatly help me with my 6.4 powerstroke 2008 with 171000 mi I just bought 4 days ago for 7000 do you have any more videos pertaining to this and other sensors to the turbo let me know
Bill, I have a 2002 F-250 XL crew cab long bed 2WD automatic 7.3 diesel pickup with 240k miles. What are your thoughts about changing out the stock Garrett GTP 38 turbo for the 38-R and what else should I have done in the process for better performance and reliability with the turbo swap?
Stupid question. Can I just repalce the sensor? I pulled to tube and it's clear. The new tube doesn't want to thread on nicely. So I figured maybe it would be easier to just replace the sensor.
I have an 02 7.3, replaced the tube and sensor and recently the pigtail and still get the P0472 code on my cts3 edge monitor. The reading on my edge shows 29 and never changes. What could be the issue?
Hey Bill I just replaced my ebp which was still reading 2psi but now it reads 0psi...? I've unplugged it and reattach it with no luck. What do you think it is?
I didn't know the EBP sensor adjusted boost pressure. I thought they only determined when the DPF needed to regenerate. I learnearn something new about cars and trucks everyday.
I dont want to use a tune on my truck because i have a 6.0 and no studs yet. What should is the best system to use? i.e. edge tuner. I want to be able to add tunes later on when i get it studded but i only want to buy a system once not one for now and a new one later.
Hello, tell me what is the problem? I have a Ford F450 2008 6.4 diesel, I have something overclocking that starts to whistle to 2k rpm, what can it be?
fisher1972 Have you ever thought that going on a Ford video and saying that you should buy a Cummins makes you look dumb? DPF's fuck up all the time on 6.7 Cummins trucks anyways.
This was helpful. Just spent thousands of dollars only for the truck to read drive to clean the exhaust system. Three injectors and a fuel pump was replaced, but for some reason the truck is loosing oil, and at times won't start until I put more oil in it. Unable to determine where the oil is going. Any suggestions?
Hey bill, I have a 2005 f250 6.0 and when you take off from a dead stop, it pours out black smoke and kinda lags behind In power until you get to about 1800 rpms then it drives normal. Is this the same problem as in the video?
Wildman Check the MAP PORT clear it out with a metal coat hanger. Also check the EBP Spencerport on the exhaust side clear that out with a coat hanger as well. Next common thing would be the vgt valve connected to the turbo.
RevX is yesterdays news bro. Archoil AR6200 will increase your fuel economy like no other additive because it is the only one that lowers the combustion temps by up to 400F.
powerstrokehelp I noticed the same thing. I used Archoil on my 6.0 last oil change. Truck runs super smooth. Thanks for the videos... Every time my buddy has a powerstroke question, I just find one of your videos. Makes me look way smarter than I really are.
1:00 on my trucks I've always thought that to be caused more by the DPF state, (clogg %, engine & outside temperature, exhaust temperature and how long temperatures have been at said state to reduce DPF sooting), but when tied with that code and seeing just one 7.3 back pressure tube i can see that to be a prime suspect
i had this issu in the winter 2012, clogs up fast with deletes. Ide like to see somsort of by pass or larger diameter tube maybe, my boost was way up past 50.
I’m fixing this guy 6.4 every thing sound ok idles good but I step on pedal and no thrush, and boost goes while.he took the egr delete.I notice that he took the pipe to the egr off and pressure sensor it just wiggling.🤨
im having a major oil consumption issue with my 95 7.3 was wondering what the possibilities could be i was thinking injector o rings, i checked my fuel bowl doesnt really have any oil in it and im thinking of pulling the intake and downpipe to see if the turbo seals arent leaking. just wanted your opinion
start simple then move to more complicated fixes. major oil consumption on 7.3 ive noticed usually is injector o rings. im not quite the expert bill is though.
yeah theres really not much else that would cause such a massive oil consumption other than injectors, injector o-rings, a plugged pcv, or worn rings. but worn rings and a plugged pcv valve i dont think would cause something as drastic as 1 gallon every 100 miles. i pulled my injectors today, the 96 and older trucks had 2 oil/fuel orings in the middle of the injector and almost all of mine were ate away so i put the updated orings in and im waiting to drive it but i think that fixed the problem
no there alright.. all 8 of my injector o-rings were worn half way around. ford updated the seals in 97 with 1 seal in the middle of the injector that separates fuel/oil insted of the old 2 seals (that mine had)
I have a p040d code and limp mode. I broke off the sensor on the up pipe. does anyone think I can get a egr and dpf delete tuner that it'll bypass this sensor? then I can just plug it in and zip tie it somewhere?
Your video is having "combing" effects which is typical of interlaced video, check the issue and chane your camera to progressive, YT does not like interlaced video!
powerstrokehelp Great videos, Heres what I use in my shop and personal vehicles to monitor and diag problems. Its cheap and for a small 4X4 gasser shop works great. For OBD2 coms, I use this guys www.scantool.net/ amd there Bluetooth com. They have great software for your phone/tablet/PC. For just monitoring my Personal Vehicles in use I use torque-bhp.com/, its a GREAT program. It lets you see all SAE standard PID's and if you know the OE proprietary PID's you can add it to the dash which is fully customizable. It also does data logging of any sensor you can read the PID's of.
ShamusOGrady2 Show me any car/truck/engine that never fails... I've had and seen PLENTY of dodge and chevy that were not worth the paint that rusted off of em.
Patrick TheBaptist All failures are Administration failures. It was some CEO that approved or pushed the crappy design. I had a punk 1994 Chevy 1500. The 4L60E trans burned out every 60,000 miles, like clock work. I purchased the truck new. changed the transmission fluid religiously and never abused it. But, the Navistar takes the cake.
WAVETUBE84 I do need to firm up my position, I hate the newer trucks, PERSONALLY I would NOT own another other PowerStroke than the 7.3s, all the newer ones is just a waste of hard earned money. Yeah I had a 95 G30 van with their 6.5L non-turbo, it couldn't make it to 160k before the heads were cracked. Isuzu makes a nice diesel, I had a 92 FSR with a 5.8 I6 turbo and it sure took some abuse at my hands hahaha. Those 6.7 Fords are really stupid, ceramic ball bearing turbos guaranteed to dust and destroy the engine, I had to stand on your side, seems they did that knowing it would result in damage for the owner and money for the "stealership" The 7.3 I have the ford stealership could not it started after 1800 in work done, took me not 2 hours to figure out it was the fuel tanks, the truck wasn't getting fuel... They were as dumb as I don't know what OR they were liars and were milking the customer, I paid him less than that for the truck and over a year later I'm still cruising in it.... Front fuel tank was clogged and rear tank pickup was broke off and the dealer thought a turbo rebuild and PCM would fix it... These newer diesels cannot see 500k without serious engine work, 7.3s with oil and coolant changes can expect to exceed that AND also replace the stock breather box with a cold air intake (the breather boxes were the worst idea ever, they bust and don't seal good and are usually the end of alot of 7.3s that never should have.
