You're trying to run a standard 12v coil through a ballast resistor. The spark at the plugs will be weak. The idea behind the 6v coil is that it assists cold starting by shunting the ballast during starting, and giving the coil an extra oomph. Once the engine starts, the shunt is opened, and the coil returns to its normal ballasted supply. Put the 6v coil back in. It was correct for the way the ignition is wired. 12v supply, 6v coil, ballasted circuit.
It should still run with a stuck valve based on the way you have to give it full fuel to even really run your carb is plugged up and needs cleaned but the shit in the distributor cap is causing the spark to jump all over clean the cap out and it'll start
