Hunter, it also may need exhaust gaskets as it sounds a bit loud. I just did mine and now it is so quiet. The gaskets are only about 2 bucks each and you'd need 2 of them. There's a quick youtube video of exhaust gasket for 8 N repplacement. Takes about half an hour to do it, maybe an hour including wire brushing the surfaces clean.

@@HunterStephensKY if it is kept tuned up you have little to no problems with the starter on 6 volt we have owned one for 32 years and it's still going strong
LOL. Just pulled mine down to replace the head gasket. Last person to pull the head didn't put one back in it. This tractor has run like a champ ever since I've owned it; without a head gasket. :-) There is carbon buildup which appears to have sealed the low spots. This thing has never used any oil or lost water volume. It's a miracle daddy! :-)
The head on mine seems to be freaking welded on. It angers me to see these videos where it just pops free. I have all of the bolts and studs loose, but the head is rock solid and will not pop off.
It wouldn’t start. However after this a old man down the road showed me how to clean the distributor button and I fired right up so could have been that.
