Sad to see these things slowly fading away the last great American body on frame warship lol cheap and easy to fix even after pretty big collisions. Ford should be ashamed of the new interceptors. The crown vic has outlasted a bunch of couple year old newer patrol cars by the BIG 3 Of course not fast but ready to go to war can't kill a 4.6
The P71 also has quick ration steering and a transmission that shifted faster than a civilian CV. I have a 2004 PI with 68K miles and when I run it up to 100mph it glides effortlessly with no pulling or vibrations.
i haven’t bought my crown vic yet but I can’t wait to have it soon and give it nice customizations cool video btw I like the gopro headset for footage. makes the video feel a lot more immersive
Love my 08 crown vic, I bought it 3 years ago to commute back and forth to work which is 100 miles a day round trip, I was nearly getting 400 miles per tank of fuel, in those 3 years I put about 60k on it, current mileage is 232K I'll just keep on driving until she dies
Same for me with my '04, used it for 3 years on a 100 mile round trip commute running it up to now 236k, now its mostly stays at home parked but for an occasional short trip or quick run within 100 miles. Will keep it until it cant be fixed.
@@richardkluesek4301 mine is up to 239K, I don't drive it like I used to, I mostly drive my Corolla now only because gas is through the roof, similar to you I only use it as my highway cruiser at the moment, I Haven't driven it in 3 weeks, when I do hop back in it it's gonna seem like such a big boat
@@richardkluesek4301 i rolled my 98 300k...just change the oil ever 3 to 3.5k...and the transmission every 30k (and i mean 30k)...be nice to them..and they will carry you until they cant carry no more.
The Vic’s are fast af. Top speed of 138, a lot of cars cant get to that speed. Tho they aren’t the quickest which is what I think you were meaning. Fast is top speed and quick is acceleration. 4:06
Cool ex-cop Crown Vic. Yeah, the P71 is stiffer than the regular version, but the difference isn't THAT much, same goes with performance. The police and civilian models are actually about the same between each other, with the former adjusted a bit for their hard use. I have a Crown Victoria, too, though way older, an '89 LX. They're a beast to drive.
someone vandalized my 2011 cvpi last year I'm still trying to fix it, and unfortunately my car is unusual because ford cant give me my exact color for the car as it apparently hasn't been used on that year. other than that, the car is amazing drives and is probably the best car I've driven. love the vid :)
@Jamesh1011 yea someone keyed the absolute shit out of the drivers side doors 2 big x's in the doors and then wrote "goof" on the hood of the car and it being the smokey grey "ghost car" color i cant even get the exact color from ford
I just got an ‘11 cvpi and your right on all counts-the way it rises when you step on it, the way it coasts on its own inertia, the feeling of a column shifter, the giant go kart aspect of the handling, it’s great!!! So glad I got one. And yeah no one here in so-cal seems the least bit stressed about it.
i have an 08 intercepter, my grandpa gave it to me as a gift as my first car, prettiest blue i ever seen but i cant find the color anywhere, i put longhorn bullhorns on it, inside door panels are gon and the inside of the trunk is bare for god knows what reason, garages told me itll last a good 10 years more at least except they always try to buy it from me to use as a demo car and its a pain. and the steering in the car is harder than hell soo-
I bought my 06 at 140k about a year and a half ago it has been amazing upgraded it with Apple Carplay and subwoofers and new rims looks new but nothing drives like it my love for police crown vics will be forever nothing built like them either i feel safe transporting my son only paid $1800 now they are getting expensive i can’t find one as good for under $3500. Mine has the same rear gearing as well absolutely in love with how aggressive it is.
Most Vic's have the overdrive cancel button wires cut. It's a easy fix and makes a big difference for in city driving not engaging overdrive. I think fuel economy is the main reason for the Vic's retirement. That squeak could be the hood latch. I greased and adjusted mine and my car is like a brand new car no squeaks no rattles.
My OD cancel button works fine, I don't mind gliding through town anyway. And thanks for the tip but I don't think its my hood latch, that was one of the very few parts I had to replace on the car so its got a brand new OEM hood latch that's less than six months old. It sounds like its coming from the driver's door area.
The reason why the Panther platform retired was because in 2012, the stability controls came and unfortunately the Ford couldn't get that put on, plus it was already outdated by then.
Yeah they all do that... Since I've had this car I've gotten used to the noise and I've even heard other Panther Platform cars doing it on the street lol
What the civilian model should have been actually even some of the F150 with the same engine size have the sluggish gearing and early upshifts automatic transmission programming wonder whether there was a reason why police depts. bought them without limited slip rear mostly? Does the taller axle ratio (3.27)? get 25 mpg on highway ? civilian model gets Worse mpg because won't pull overdrive on slight highway grades?
The highest number I've seen on mine with the 3.55 rear is 23 MPG highway, and a previous CVPI I rented a couple years ago did do 25 MPG on my fuel economy loop, and I think it had the 3.27 rear end, so yes if you drive conservatively you can get 25 MPG out of a 3.27. I can only imagine that cost was a factor for various police departments skipping the limited slip diff
I'm not sure exactly what torque converter is in the P7B, but I know that the 2009-2011 Crown Vics use a different transmission fluid (Mercon LV) than the 2008 and earlier models (Mercon V), so it might be a different torque converter in the later models.
The police interceptors had a different engine control unit, and they all came standard with dual exhaust which was optional on the civilian models, and the exhaust was what Ford called “low restriction exhaust” which means the resonators were removed which makes it louder
I have an 09 P71. I like it because it is just a basic car. I do not need all the electronic regalia in a modern car because everything a digitally tricked out new vehicle has is too much to deal with. You would have to be a fighter pilot to work everything and drive which all can be done on a cell phone attached to the dash with a holder. My P71 is simple. Lights on and off, radio on or off. Heat of A/C on or off. Thermal controls Hot/Cold. No frills just point A to B with the heavy duty police package. Amen!
CVPI was not intended to be the fastest king of the highway, the cops would catch you by radioing ahead for backup with support from eye in the sky. No one fears these as the ''five O" anymore, they are run mostly by collectors, private security companies, second tier taxis, and just owners who had 'em already for a long time. Fun, easy, and safe to drive and comfortable on a long trip.
you Supercharge dat shit you could Rock like a Hurricane, people always under estimate it so as to not look bad, then secretly fall in love with it peace y'all
@@000274400 Cletus Mc Farland events showcased and wrecked many CvPIs. But in fairness he made 'em famous and demoed the potential. And Security training outfits destroyed far more many cars.
You can check out how it looks (and what I paid for it) in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G_bkP46hcWs.html Thanks for watching!
Still kept up with most normal cars. Out running a car in a race and completely leaving it in the dust is different. We loved them back in 07 we switched to impalas and we actually had good luck with them. The 2012-16 impalas was much faster than the old vics. Quicker than the 90s caprice to.
I have a 99 P71 the one with the aggressive timing curve in it. People are surprised when I actually tell them how they built inspect this car out for Police service. Love the car.
I like it, they come up for sale over here in Delaware at the local State/Undercover Police barracks. I'm not sure as to or where they sell them. Need to look into it. All the cars are Blue and Dark Blue.
129mph with the 3.55s. You can get more top speed with the 3.55s but you will need to get some performance parts added(swapped) in the rear differential and take it to a tuner shop to bypass the ecu that limits the speed(gears).
@@krownvikkhris3004 If you are getting 119mph with 3.55s something wrong then. Ford did a test with the 3.55s and got top speed of 129mph, not sure if it was on a long track or airport though.
Well I bought mine at auction so there was a lot of luck involved for me because I couldn't inspect the car before I bought it. If you can inspect it before hand, check the transmission fluid using a white paper towel or napkin. The closer it is to bright red, the better. The more brown it is, the more likely the transmission has serious issues due to lack of maintenance. On the test drive get the car warmed up and give it heavy throttle and make sure it accelerates strongly and doesn't slip. The good news with the Crown Victoria is that if it does need a new transmission it's not expensive to put it in (as far as transmissions go). You should be able to get a rebuilt one put in for about a grand. It's the same transmission they used in the F-150 so it's common as dirt.
So they replaced that bolt free of charge since it's a recall? And this can be done at any ford dealership? Just take it to the dealership and ask about the recall?
Yes it was free, and if your Crown Vic has the open recall they will do it for you too. If you search “check recall status NHTSA” you can find a website where you can type in your VIN to see if any recalls are open on your car.
@CarDietrich thanks I appreciate you explaining. I just bought mine. Gotta have a little work done. But we drove it 200 miles home it seems like the engine and trans are good. The problems are stupid shit like the ignition switch is hard to turn and the odometer light is real dim, ac and heat don't seem to be working neither. But the thing drove fine
its funny that you said something about the staring well. cuz. mine shakes. and leaks fluid. and I check it the other day when I did the oil change . seems like a bolt its loose I try to thigh it. but. theres no way.
Contact the service department at your local Ford dealer and give them your VIN number so they can check to see if the recall for the steering column applies to your car. If it does they will fix it for free.
People don’t believe me when i tell em my 03 grand marquis gets around 22mpg at 60-65mph which is just about great, but also have power in first and second gear, taking off and over taking in the highways respectively
Your tranny has probably been rebuilt recently. Hope so at least. Because they are junk. Maybe not so much in your yr. But I'm sure they kept the same direct clutch drum. My 05 with 101k on it gave out the first three weeks of owning it. And its tranny would have been new if someone knew how to rebuild it right. Needless to say, I'm currently waiting on the UPS guy to drop off my new clutch for my 5spd swap.
Your comment made me chuckle, since I've had my own bad experience with these cars. A lot of people praise this platform as the end-all be-all car ever made. Yes, they're decent cars, but they were made at a time when American car companies were producing pure garbage. Anything and everything can go wrong. I bought a 2005 Lincoln Town Car last January with 104k miles and the transmission went out half a year later. Yes these cars are neat and can be head turners, but you still need to proceed with caution.
Yep, my 2008 P71’s transmission just gave up the ghost at 91,000. Just had it rebuilt. Despite that train wreck of a repair, car has been really solid.
