The Ford Duratec is a V6 series of engines originally engineered by Porsche. It was then sold to Ford for use in pedestrian vehicles such as the Ford Contour and Escape. After a few iterations, this engine gained variable valve timing and revised valve train, for a whopping 240HP.
Having been produced until 2012, the Ford Duratec V6 has proven to be a reliable engine, especially when compared to its successor, the Ford Ecoboost series. More on the Ecoboost engines and their failures here:

The engine in this video was a running engine from a 2010 Ford Escape and is torn down for analysis. The Duratec series was also found in Volvo and Mazda models.

2008 Ford Fusion SEL V6 here, i LOVE THIS ENGINE! About to hit 178K miles, and it has been excellent. I'm leaking oil from the valve cover and oil pan but idgaf, i just top it off every couple months. This engine has an awesome exhaust note with a muffler delete, and it has been completely reliable for me.

Had a 2012 Fusion and STILL have a 2008 Taurus X. Fusion was the 3.0 and the 3.5 in the X. Both were absolutely bulletproof. One of the best non-performance Ford engines ever made IMHO.

@@BrightLandsCarFan My other favorite Ford engine is the 300CI (4.9L) straight 6. I'm saving up for my dream truck, which is a single cab long bed 1992-1996 F150 with the 300 straight 6 and a 5 speed manual transmission. To me, that's the perfect pickup truck engine.

You can get a Mazda6 with the 3.0l Duratec V6 with a Aisin 6-speed automatic from a Toyota Camry on later models. Best combo

My family had two Duratec 3.0 DOHC engines ('99 Sable and 2000 Taurus). They were very reliable and had no issues for many, many miles of ownership. I did regular maintenance (usually followed the Severe Duty Schedule) with full synthetic oil. As long as you had the cam cap bearings replaced if they started to make noise (both of ours never had this issue), then these engines really didnt have a major issue.

@speedkar99 we got lucky. Both cars had the AX4N transmission which was an upgraded trans for the DOHC engines. We changed the fluid/filter every 30k. Routine maintenance was the key.

I needed a beater a few years ago and saw a 1998 Taurus on a lot. I was disappointed it had the 24v DOHC Duratec engine, I would have preferred the Vulcan OHV 3.0 V6. The engine was a deal breaker for me but the dealer said he had several of them and they were all very good engines. Since the car was very cheap I took his word for the engine. Now several years later I see he was right, it's performed very well for me in all conditions.

I put 300k on two of these in mercury milans. A pretty reliable engine, never let me down but was always on top of maintenance. Original coils, chains, guides , tensioners, and phasers. That one sure looks like the oil changes were neglected.

I use to have a 98 Ford Contour SE with a 2.5 Duratec with a 5 speed. even though it was a 2.5 it was a pretty big engine. the first engine went bad due to a rear main seal leak that was poorly installed by the mechanic that replaced the clutch on it. due to the subframe design I didn't attempt it myself like I've done on all my other cars. the replacement engine lasted a lil over year than I sold the car. even though the car was mint with just a a little over 100,000 miles all I could get was $500 for it. everyone that wanted it knew getting a used engine was pretty expensive. they pretty much got a good price on a set of headers that came with a free car lol.. the transmission actually had a bolt break inside at around 30,000 miles making it get stuck in 1st gear. the warranty covered the repair which required the transmission being pulled.

There is a duratec engine in my Ford Galaxy but it's 2.0 litre inline four by Mazda. Also an aluminium head and an aluminium block and plastic intake manifold but quite a good engine. Never heard of the V6 version.

Better camera angles and focus than previous videos. Great balance between video length and amount of information. Audio is good, airplanes and civics are a feature of your videos at this point. Jokes are on point, nothing that could get you cancelled but always grazing the line, love it. Perhaps you could start a rating system (subjective to your experience) so we can compare the engines you disassemble between brand and models. For example, have categories such as Power, Ease of Maintenance, Reliability/Longevity and whatever else, grade it from 0-100. Very nice, thumbs up

Its easy to pick on ford, they certainly have their fair share of turds, but i dont think its any more than most other manufacturers. That said, my one real gripe working on ford stuff is the long running design goal of "lets make sure to use the absolute smallest possible head for a given bolt size possible, for reasons"

That short water hose between coolant manifold and engine block has me concerned. Do they normally fail? At what age? Overall the v6 2012 Escape/2011 Mariner is the last small Ford suv I can buy due to simplicity and repairability of engine. The I4 has unkeyed balancer and timing sprocket that is a big no.
