It's a driving enthusiast car. Driver's seat is where you need to be in a Ford car. Although I do not see the reviewer talking too much negative. He is just weighing up the positives and negatives. I am a proud owner of Ford Fiesta Classic and I can totally understand when he says someone walked to Hyundai factory and picked up the steering. I have test driven the EcoSport and found the steering to be ultra light like my cousin's Hyundai Verna. Classic Fiesta has one of the best steering and gives the right and precise feedback because it's purely hydraulic. On EcoSport, it is electrically assisted, so there is bound to be little less feedback than what you would expect from a Ford car.
This is probably the best review of Ecosport I have watched till date...Rohit has touched all key aspects which most of the others reviewers (glaringly) seem to have missed..Also, the explanation given for the cons are perfect. A very balanced review giving out the negatives and positives in equal measure. Hope we have more such unbiased reviews instead of the moronic, one sided (sic. paid) reviews of Autocar or Powerdrift or NDTV
I use to face off road-hilly area...lots of pot holes etc while on tour in Nepal region. Which option will be best for me? Ecosport Ecoboost Petrol engine or Diesel TDCi. Please suggest as I have to finalize. If you have some more suggestions; let me know.
This is the first review on EcoSport which doesn't sound like a "paid" review. Rohit has touched upon a lot of details which have been overlooked in other reviews. I see a lot of comments criticizing this review, but I feel that the reviewer (Rohit) is a big Ford fan and had very high expectations (from EcoSport) because Ford is known for "ride and handling" and Ford has disappointed him big time here. A self test drive would reveal all, but lets be fair to this genuine review !
I have a query for OnCars and the reviewer in particular. Ford seems to be losing its steam in recent times as far as straight forward performance is concerned. It's descending:- Ikon 1.6 > Fiesta (Classic) 1.6 > Figo > New Fiesta. We used to time the older Fiesta for our track days at Chennai and they were way better than the new Fiesta. So didn't you expect the EcoSport (which is a crossover) to be not as good anyway?
Very nice review; I liked it; but if if you add some staring system in different features ( upto 5 star) that would be better to compare with other car in the segment
You seem to hate this guy for his honesty I think. I'm not a follower of OnCars but I consider myself an enthusiast with a considerable amount to track days against my name to atleast tell the difference between good, better & best. I drove the EcoSport, thanks to a dealer friend of mine and can't agree more with this chap from OnCars.
I came across similar reviews from other people driving the Ford as well. Seems Duster is the better option. Plus the diesel iengine of Duster is better.
Obviously, the bookings are not open yet officially.. they will only open in June I hear. But unofficial bookings have already begun, as told by three Ford dealers -- ever since the EcoSport displays began at major malls in the country. Obviously, the company representative is going to deny that.. the dealers does not wait until the the company officially announces that the bookings are open.. Unofficial bookings are a common thing these days..
Other thing to note is that only a person who knows what he is talking about will have the guts to say that this car is pathetic ( in this case, in terms of handling). If a newbie or a person with no knowledge about cars takes up a review, he or she will always take the safe approach of giving a safe (read, good) review.
I got a chance to get inside the EcoSport when it was displayed in one of the mall's in Pune and totally agree with this guy, that the quality of interiors is pathetic! Good to see an honest review after a loonnnggg time in Indian auto industry.
And just wondering, where did you get the 150 experts figure?? Are you a Ford employee??? :D I only saw about 10 to 12 reviews of the ecosport... if am missing anything, please share..
Guess we all have to really go and test drive the EcoSport and then talk here. I for one, am glad that Rohit pointed most of the bad things out, coz I wouldn't have paid that much attention to the handling and steering qualities, as Ford cars are known to score high on those aspects. With his review in mind, at least now I will test drive the Duster again right after the EcoSport to get a better judgement about the two cars...
Exactly my thoughts! Even I was banking on buying the EcoSport and was eager to watch and read the reviews. And obviously, I was very very disappointed with this review. but its not that the reviewer is bad, its only coz the car hasn't managed to impress him. And his disappointment is clearly visible. I for one am really frustrated coz I wanted to pick up the Duster SUV, and then thought I shud wait for the EcoSport.. but now the wait seems to be futile.. shud have booked the Duster!
i think the review is pretty honest as it talk about all the positive points before going in depth. Really god review as a consumer will need all points before buying. Def the rear space and boot of Duster is bigger than Ford. Also the rear windows are quite small in Ford.
I don't think its grudge. If I may point out, Autocar is literally advertising their review on RU-vid between videos and I also saw a TV advertisement of the review! Which means only one thing that money has been involved between Ford and Autocar..
Correct! A SUV cant b a drivers car. But the Ford guys at the malls are insisting that it the best handling SUV in its segment. Now I know the Quanto is bad at this but Duster seems to do a very good job. Lets see how the Ecosport turns up.

u did not get the point. review says ride and handling is bad which is unlikely given all other sites including team bhp say that it is very good. low feedback is some thing every one has cribed out . but the point is this reviewer felt polo has great steering but stearing of polo gives very little feed back. hence u did not get the central point
I only saw Autocar's review in a advertisement... so I did the math.. had i seen an advertisement of the guy in the video or any of the 150 experts you mentioned, I would have thought the same about them too..
First review that has recognized the stupidity of the emergency assist function in India. Try explaining to a policeman in a mufasil town what a GPS coordinate is!!
I don't man. I will wait till I drive this car personally. ACI & OD always sound optimistic about every car they drive. Even SVP's review highlighted the same drawbacks that this review highlights. Flimsy plastics, cramped interiors, sluggish low end from the engine. He has also mentioned the ride is sporty, but this review hasn't said that the ride is bad. Steering and grip seem to be his problem with the car and we'll know that only after driving it ourselves.
If u think so its good, i always trusted ACI and Overdrive and SVP and SVP told plastics dont make it feel premium and apart from that rest all he told was positive, see interiors arent cramped for a car under 4m its perfect but concidering ecosport as an SUV its cramped, but concider it a CUV its just perfect,low end is slugish but damn this is a petrol so it revvs freely and it wont be a problem damn sure, i ve driven laura 1.8 tsi even that has some lag below 1500 rpm,

I do really like his way of reporting pretty honest. But man the Ecosport might have looked a little BIGGER if you did loose some weight! There are some contrasting comments which goes against other car reporters. Well, when we go to buy this car we seriously need to get a test drive and concentrate on the contrasting comments. And the way he shakes the plastics of the dashboard it is a little concerning, But at the same time he might be very strong! Good review, i liked this the best!
That could be a possibility too. Looking at the amount of reviews that have come up I think they all have driven the same cars and everyone must have taken the car to its limits. So possibly the steering on this car could have developed some sort of issues.
We have seen the vehicle a couple of times.. and my family members definitely were concerned about the quality of the interiors... besides, we saw that the chrome strip on the grille was already coming off and the door panel had gone loose. Even the 12 volt charger in the rear was not working.. I thought that was just one model like that.. the dealer too gave the same reasons &I put the booking amount down... Now after watching this review, to be honest am really worried..
i stay at trivandrum and here i cant get a duster even base variant Diesel below 11l Rs, i test drove duster and it dosent handle as good as my Ford Figo, the 110PS has humungus turbo lag,cabin is not at all well insulated, steering feel is neutral its neither accurate nor worse enough 2 spoil fun,ride comfort is excellent,its wider than ecosport so city driving little difficult,legroom same as duster but shoulder room more than ecosport,superb boot,the interior made me feel i was in 1980s
I dont agree many points with reviewer. Except few like the materials inside the car. The materials used are flexible in nature but that does mean that they are of poor quality. They are not easily breakable like in other cars, however, they are flexible and lite. For that matter, any car's interior would collapse in case of an accident. Ecosports performance is really good, i am really wondering why the reviewer gave such comments. My friend owns diesel top-end variant and finds no complaints at all. Bad (biased) review

Renault wanted me to spend 14L for a Nothing worth except some good styling . I m eagerly waiting for d ford ecosport the day it is out in the market I'll get it . Ford invited 150 experts to goa for this test drive n non has complaint about music system , features , plastic quality they say is ok better than duster , n I guess if they're saying that legroom is less than duster then all I want to tell those people that I sit in my car in a good manner , I don't do yoga in my car. :p
Duster is better than ecosport ... In a price tag of 5.59 lkh ecosport is the best .... Ecosport is worth its money ... But unlike other suv we can't drive it easy ... Its a mini suv
Yeah, the only explanation to all of this is that over 10,000 people have already booked the EcoSport... even before the launch.. and to see someone throwing bricks and bats on his or her new car, is oh so evil! :D But trust me, weight or no weight, the EcoSport is really puny!!
When you talk about the a well round package in a compact corssover, you probably haven't driven the Duster then.. the only thing Duster lacks is space... but the space in EcoSport is even more cramped. Also the Duster looks dull in front of the EcoSpot. But then, most sane people would choose better handling, performance and refinement over good looks. And yes, the Duster range starts well below 10 Lakh and ends at 14 lakh on-road. So, yes Ford shud have learnt something from Renault..

A SUV, albeit a small one, can never be expected to be a "drivers car". If you want handling, go buy a Mazda MX5 or even a Polo GT. Also why does no one mention that the tailgate opens the wrong way for a right-hand drive car??

1989rs500- I totally agree wid u . I got the duster top variant test drive I guess the price was Arnd 14L .. Damn disappointed I was . Speaker system was like a Chinese fm being played no sound quality. Seating was also bad coz of the ac vents. No features , not even a climate control which even hatchbacks have , below avg plastic quality n the entertainment system was so horrible , n after seeing all

The Ecosport is going sell only because of the way it looks. After watching this video a couple of times I think that even the reviewer is disappointed that it doesnt handle like a typical ford. I hv to agree on the plastics though...Fiesta down they all have been pathetic. I think we will have to wait and drive the Ecosport to see who is right & who is wrong. Most of us have been waiting for this SUV & mayb that is why we are all disappointed after watchin this review. Gud work though, OnCars.
Yeah..he's been paid by renault..i tested the ecosport on indonesia l and its not clumsy its quite nice interior..he's just a lier.. Well buddy international engine of the year..its well built machine..it beat the vw tsi engine..and now you tell the ecoboost is terrible..how shame are you.. Many review especially from indonesia, tell the ecoboost its amazing engine even top gear say that.. And the suspension is really well..handling is also good
Fantastic fantastic review! i got to drive the ecosport when a buddy of mine got the car for a few days for that discoveries contest or some shit.. and I thought I was the only one who thought the handling, steering, quality and interiors were shit!!! Thank god and thank the guy in the video, for a straight, non-bullshit, no sugar coating or diplomatic review! You guys go test drive and see it for yourself! Get ready for some major disappointment!
The older fiesta 1.6S was an excellent car but the steering was 2 heavy for city use and ride was very stiff, the new 1 lacks road feel but the variable ratio is excellent it weighs up in an almost perfect manner(not as superb as Fiats) and that aids excellent control as well, if u still dont believe see reviews of autocar co uk,auto express,carbuyer etc ford fiesta reviews as well, Ford is losing market cuz market is heavily saturated,Etios,dzire,liva,brio,amaze,i20,polo,fabia,classic,etc
Polo Gt wont handle as good as a Ford bro,Fords DNA is handling if u want proof please please search other european car reviews of ford fiesta and vw polo........ill give a break up if u want FWD est handling cars in the world are made by Mazda=Ford rest all pile up behind,polo is 2 soft steering lacks feel(much worse than Fiestas and Ecosports) i drove polo(vento) and fiesta its nowhere near fiesta in terms of handling, its just a safe handling car ie back end is stable..Fiesta is BRILLIANT
U please dont blabber much yes i am a Ford fanboy but the reason is driving dynamics and sterin feel and agility of Ford chassis is miles better than VW, VW is poor mans mercedes benz and Ford poor mans BMW, yes i have evn driven a BMW x1, its suspension is superstiff and steering is very hard not at all comfort oriented car but handles like a dream, compared to city amaze gearbox aint good but its far from notchy,Fords gearbox is too superslik and extremely positive feeling,
I own 2015 model ecosport diesel engine.....honestly get the fuck out of that beauty..... every negative things he said about the car is absolutely opposite...like the steering wheel....it is small and compact n very easy to handle...trust me....if u own an ecosport u will never sell it...i wont

The dealer also told me that he had already got more than 2k bookings.. and if i wanted the car delivered in the first lot.. i should put down my money.. and I did!
