On a 2001 to 2010 Escape this is a 5 minute job. 2011 and newer it is absolutely ridiculous! And Ford is not the only one to hide their battery in a stupid location. Really good "how to" video. Thanks!
I tried to go the airbox route but couldn't get enough clearance because the negative connector was seized on there. You can also take off the wiper blades (two 15mm nuts), remove 4 8mm screws, take off some retaining clips, disconnect the brake fluid reservoir and let it hang to remove the entire shroud. Gives you so much more room and would have saved me a hell of a lot of time if I did that first.
Any time I change a battery on a newer car, I have a tool that plugs in to the cigarette lighter hooked to a 12 volt battery so the computer doesn't lose it's memory. No cigarette lighter in car, connect to battery terminals. Just saying
