2001 Ford Rander: I just went through the same sequence before seeing this video. My turn signals and hazard lights were completly dead. After seeing this, I adjusted my steering wheel all the way up and the singnals came back. No doubt the problem is a loose contact. Thank you so much for sharing your information.
Thanks a bunch! Instead of buying the parts, I took your advice and tested the wheel tilt. I put it all the way up for maxplay on the wires anf the blinkers worked. Then put it down to max tilt and the binkers didn't work. So, you are spot on that there is too much stress on the wires and it's causing the disconnect! I don't drive with it all the way down, so it's not an issue for me. It happened when my wife drove my truck yesterday :-) Crisis averted. Cheers!
Thanks for the video! Saved me a lot of diagnostic time. I had done the same as you. New flasher, new switch. I never noticed that wire out of the plug. I guess I just never thought about a connector coming loose from the plug.
Thanks for you taking the time to do this video. Saved my ass. The next day was going down to by a flasher. Seen your video. Had same problem. So tried what you did. Bingo jackpot. It worked. You saved me time and money.
Thanks for the video! I had a similar problem and this fixed it. I had only one blinker not flashing but still clicking. The wire was loose in the back where u pointed out and I just pushed it back in and it WORKS!
2003 Ford Ranger. Had a very similar issue. On my ranger the hazards worked but not the blinkers. I changed the flasher relay but this did not fix my issue. I saw this video and checked the same area. I found the entire plug had all but fallen out of the receptacle. The small gray clip that hold the plug in had broken off which allowed the plug to come out of the receptacle. Hope this helps someone else searching for issues other than the flasher relay.
This video saved me!! I was just about to send to shop, I could not figure it out.....who would think of this. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to post this!!!!!
Thank you for your vid bro, my indicators stopped working but before it completely stopped working 3 days ago I had to constantly adjust my steering wheel then it would work. I am about to go and check your diagnosis cos it sounds like the wires have come right out, but I have to wait for more daylight.. it's 6am. I'll let you know how it goes cos I'm over using hand signals to turn hehehe
Thank you so much for this video I bought fuses a flasher relay my next step was to buy a new switch and now I see that it can be a loose wire in the harnest and im almost positive thats the problem
Thank you thank you thank you for this video, I haven't taken anything apart yet but I tilted my steering wheel up and down and that is where the problem is, thank you.
Thanks. Pretty sure this is my problem. Lowered the steering wheel and signals didn't work. Raised the wheel and they work fine. Will be opening the column up one of these days. For now we are able to drive it with the steering wheel all the way up.
Fixed the shifter bushings which are a common problem, and after I have the turn signal problem.yes I agree.had to drop the column.wire pulled out slightly.pushed them back in tight.all good.thanks.
Wow. Good tip. Might be time for me to replace the control switch anyway. My right passenger side for some reason one bulb doesnt turn signal. Rear does though.
My hazard ( flashers) lights work, it's all the turn signals that just stopped. I tilted steering wheel up and down but not resolved. I am thinking of trouble shooting this myself, with your video. All I need to do is put wires back into the harness??? if I see they have slipped out??
i think this is the problem im having with mine....i will comment again and let you know if it fixes it.... thank you for this video.....very insightful
I couldn't get the steering cover off so I decided to just play with the steering tilt. I moved it all the way down then up all the way and locked it. Now the signals are all working again. I know it will probably happen again but at least I know it's just that wiring so thanks for sharing.
Does any of the turn signal/hazzard light wire harnesses run behind the radio? Was cutting out an old aftermarket radio in my 96 ford now my hazzards and turn signals dont work, brake lights and headlights work
I have a 95 ford ranger xlt that someone recently tried to steal. I ended up replacing the entire steering column in it. The problem I was having before I replaced the column was that the windshield wipers only worked when they wanted too. After replacing the column, my windshield wipers only work when they want to and now my emergency flashers, when in the off position, the right turn singnal stays on without blinking. With the emergency flashers in the on position, the right turn signal works and the left doest either way. The turn singnals in the left side do not work at all either way. I have replaced the bulbs front to back left and right side for turn signals, did not fix the issue. I replaced the signal switch on the column twice, first with a used signal switch and then with a brand new one which also did not fix the problem. I replaced the flasher relays for the wipers and the turn signals and still this did not fix the problems wwith the wipers, the emergency flashers or the turn signals working on the right if the emergency flashers are are but not on the left side at all. What else can the issue be caused from? Note that the flasher relay thatborginally came out of my truck is a six pin relay which I cannot find anywhere. Only a five pin. Help!?
I have a Ford Focus 2003 SE. The hazard lights are working perfect but the turn signals don't work when I apply it on either left or right way. the bulbs are working too. I am about to change the side signal switch but wanted to know if there was any other thing I could do before I purchase the switch. Thanks and your reply will be appreciated
I had the same issues. I replaced both like you did. My wire harnesses are cracked to shit! All the wires are loose. I think I plugged one in the wrong slot and it's not working now. I saw in my repair manual how to do a continuity test on the switch. BUT! There is no color chart to tell which color wire goes to which terminal. Anyone know how to tell which wire (color) goes where? This week I will go to the junkyard and pull harnesses from a junker and that might be the fix. I will extend the wires. I'll be able to tell from the new pair but until then any help would be greatly appreciated. (A chart with color code, wire color with pin number). Thanks
This is my problem also on my 2003 Ford Explorer sport I bought they took the switch off and the connector and the wires are just laying t hey there I don't know what wire goes where now HELP ME PLEASE
wow, i was checking the bulbs, fuses, then i read my tech manual it mentioned the relay, nope, what the world,, go on utube, see of anyone else found the solution, wahala!!! thank you, i was about to price a new switch, , i'll have to check the wires now!! imagine that!! great!! we shall see!!
Hi all, the left turning signal is flashing at twice the speed, the right hand side and hazard lights are all ok. The double speed flashing is on all three left side lights (front, rear and side). Any clues what is might be causing this? It's a 2000 explorer north face model. thanks!
How did you get the top cover of the steering column, I know where the 3 screws are and can get the bottom ones off, but cannot get the top half off???
I need to do this, but I read that there are 4 philips screws that hold the 2 column covers together. 1 is under the ignition (key) switch, did you pull that one as well?
got a 99 ford Expo running light, brake lights, revs lights, hazard lights all work just no turn signals idk why they were working one day then just stopped all the bulbs are fine
@@Raybob216 yep. Figured that one before you replied. Took it all apart 2x, and back together, so I can continue driving..to work etc. need to get part...need to find someone to install. Don't want to go to full blown mechanic and pay $!.
video is great thanks for the info... i replaced mine and my turn signals started working i drove it home about 4 miles and they worked got in it 3 hours later and it flashed once and nothing after.. do you have any ideas on why it would do that?
+Ska Armstrong Sorry I don't have expedition But in general 1- check blower fuse 2- blower resistor could be bad (usually located behind glove comp.) 3- search you tub for (expedition blower does not work)
+Ska Armstrong Your blower resistor is bad and is located under or behind your glove compartment and is easy to replace you can do it your self there is a lot of video on you tub they show you how to replace it good luck
+780tman I have the same problem--right turn will only make a buzzing noise. I replaced the flasher relay ,but that did not correct the problem. Please let me know if you find the solution. Thanks, Drew
did you all figure this out? mine is doing the same thing. at first my signal (left side) just stopped working. i tilted my steering wheel all the way up and it fixed it. but after awhile it started the crazy buzzing. I can hold it in a certain position and it will work but it's getting worse and worse
