I gotta say for a man who has never worked on a cat diesel you did everything as well or better than some who claim they are experts! Nice work on getting it fired up! I'd hire you in my shop in a split second!
@wes11bravo

Mike - I tend to be leery of anyone who throws around the word "expert" when they talk about their own skill level! It's a whole different animal when someone has self confidence that they gained through study and years of experience. People that possess hard-won wisdom gained by making mistakes and learning from them impress me more than people who just run their mouths about how smart they are. Agree 100% - give me someone with solid troubleshooting skills and a good work ethic like Chad any day!

@@wes11bravo Anyone who Claims to be an expert .. Isnt . You get called an Expert by Others because you are Considered an expert, you cant go and self describe yourself As one. There is also a Fallacy regarding "experts" Appeal to Authority Fallacy . I am an I.T guy and I would Never call myself an expert, even with over 30 years experience. I know my trade and know it Very well ... but thats about it . There is always something to learn and you Never stop learning ... so to Me there are No experts, only Competent and Knowledgeable individuals . Cheers.

@@fetus2280 - Oh absolutely. I have 25 years with the phone company as a splicer and, while I definitely have more skill at fault locating and clearing trouble on copper cable (which is becoming less and less relevant in my area these days), I would never presume that I've seen it all and have fixed it all. You being in IT know all too well how often and how rapidly the tech changes. There is always something to learn or to get better at, even rudimentary troubleshooting skills need continual evaluation and improvement. All the best, brother.

@@wes11bravo You know it mate . Half my day, Every Day, is spent on learning . If it isnt finding out what is on the market and whats coming up then its How to figure out the new problems these new things will cause . Then try to replicate that for testing in my makeshift testing facility ... Tell ya, im lucky to be retired and have the Time to do these things, like you say technology is constantly changing and if you dont keep up youre left in the dust. I have two of those cranes, after your done using the crane and before you start lowering it to the cradle hit the retract button and the sticks will slide in. We generally try and avoid pulling them in with the load line its stress on the cable and you dont want to be standing behind the base of the crane if a cable snaps.

Some one use to have a sign service company. There is also a high and low range in the gear box. Get the boom up and it will come back in under its own weight. Ran one of those for several years. Got to be fast on those line brakes. Also you wind up riding the line break for the boom in or it will get away from you. Always slack your load line when booming out and you are not suppose to boom in or out under load. Also the generator needs to be charging when you run the Crain or you will kill those battery's quick actually working it. Think of them more as capacitors. Another big thing is do not let you cable cross up or bird nest. Try to always keep tensions on the cable. And grease the boom there are grease points up at the end. I ran one with a man basket on the end servicing whiffed house signs. Those booms are ment to fish pole a bit under load but they do not like heavy stuff on a long stick. Use low gear on the load line and learn to pulse the rotation and father the lift hydroliks.

Drove 4 trucks with 3208's and all were fine rigs. 2 GMC's, a 2 Fords and all did a fine job. 3 had 13-under Fullers and the older Ford had a 5x4. Never left me stranded and went everywhere with whatever they had on them. Can't beat that. The Miller straightened out I bet. Good welders. Thanks and keep Tennessee afloat and God Bless!

I'm only at the VERY beginning, but my story this week: I'm a ham radio operatory (General Class) so I can get on all the bands and I do HF. Well.. as of right now I live in a townhouse in a suburb (so be it) so I have my 102' wire antenna in my attic, it works, HOWEVER, when I saw that 85' beauty of a crane sitting there I got SO excited for you *your lovely assistant at least - to me having something like that even in a friend's possession.. man oh man. For me to get up 85' to put an antenna, oh my.. I'd have the nicest tower set up with the biggest directional on it.. man oh man.. : ) Glad to see you tonight, thank you as always for making content for us all to enjoy!!

Manual outriggers were common on Sign Trucks...and if working ok... easy to setup... you lift the boom enough to rotate...rotate one direction... setup the outriggers on opposite side...they can be setup solid as the frame flexs from boom weight... then rotate over your outriggers...and setup the other side..... you should use pads under outriggers for safety ( so they don't sink or drop down )... i have Hydraulic outriggers on my 115 Skyhook truck..much easier but i never minded the hand operated ones ( if they work smooth !! )

You have something else wrong with that boom. Proper operation that telescopic portion should go in and out independent from the lift cable. Always remember to let your ball hook down before extending your boom. Even if it's free wheeled. I know you're using it on private property not for hire but for personal knowledge look at your load charts and set up. On an 85ft boom you should be set up around 8 paces from what you're lifting. Lift off the back not the front or side. Not saying you can't but your lifting capacity drops drastically. All in all a great video as always and I really hope that there will be more to come with this truck. Keep it up man great work.
