A great response to Holden's commercial back in the day.

I love these old fords.Bought one in the '90's,still have it .Fire glow paint,351,auto and its a Fairmont.

You've got to love the cardboard cut outs

Count again. All six drivers are standing on the track. It's Fred Gibson driving the Falcon. Fred had also been a Ford works team driver in the early 1970's.

Clever rebuttal for Holden's self congratulatory RTS campaign.

The fact remains:- Holden did it first. I took an XC Fairmont for a test drive once as a potential purchase. It was so difficult to see out of that I thought I was entombed in a coffin! I couldn't see where the car was on the road. I bought an XE instead. Back then, it meant an extra $5000 to fork out, but I got a Ford I could actually feel comfortable controlling.

I remember the Naked Vicar Show doing a very amusing send up of this ad (in their version, the Falcon drives in a straight line and you see the racing drivers progressively turn around, see what's happening, then run off very fast...).

They look like cardboard cutouts to me. Certainly they didn't move. I'm sure the producers realised that - if they were real people, they would have had them wave as the car went round them, or had the camera move on tracks so you could get a sense of depth in the people. But this was a good version of the Falcon. 6-cyl engine much smoother than the GM red motor Holden had doctored as best they could to meet T2 emission requirements. Of course, they could also have used blue-screen technique to superimpose the people onto the footage shot at the racing track.

I like the Falcon, but the XC was a brown paper bag job.

"Safety procedures approved by police" ...One can only wonder what such "procedures" actually were.
