BA/BF Ford falcon power steering flush, easy to do DIY, I suggest 2L of fluid. If you have a 2nd person it'll make the job a little easier, but doable DIY as shown.
Any questions, comment below but let me know if this video helps you.
I found there wasn't many good detailed videos online already, so I wanted to document my process so it help others in the future.
Cheers

Hey Mate, very helpful video thanks. Just one tip I found useful. If you leave the cap on when removing the return line it doesn’t leak as much.

Thanks for this vid! Saved me $$$ doing it myself as per your instructions. I had previously gotten air in the system after a brake bleed (turning steeing wheel for better access each side). The fluid was also pretty dirty and could not get the air out even with wheels raised. Now I have a quiet system with clean fluid. Top vid! 🙂

Very helpful video. I used vinyl tubing(8 mm ID, just about 10mm OD when I measured it) inserted into the return line and I then tightened the hose clamp. No leaks. Used a bit of good(3M is the brand I used) masking tape to block the return on the tank.

How to fix: WHEEL SHUDDERS WHILE TURNING AFTER CHANGING FLUID If you have this issue as I did, don't worry too much you just have air in the lines. If there are only small shakes you can drive around and the pump will slowly remove the air. Helps if you pull over every 10min to open and close the reservoir (bring brake fluid with you as the level will drop). If you have Major shaking you try slow turning the wheel at least 20 times lock to lock with the car off and the wheels in the air. If that doesn't work repeat the flush and send the return line straight back into the reservoir. Also, recommend covering the alternator with an ice cream container lid and using an empty can to catch the fluid that comes out of the reservoir. Best of luck

Did a flush today myself for the first time, I used a shop vac with some 10mm tubing going into the power steering fluid container and draining it out and then the outlet tube. The vacuum had a container so that it didn't slosh all inside the vacuum. I dripped a little bit of the steering fluid near the alternator/on it but wiped it away quickly. It actually worked extremely well and I couldn't have done it without your video pointing out the outlet tube and noting the alternator placement (still fucked it up with a bit of drippage)

I'd remove the accessory belt and keep turning the power steering pump pulley by hand, to push out the old fluid. This minimises the chance of air getting into the system and the pump "running dry" for a while.

you can flush it by connecting the return hose back to the tank filling it with power steering fluid run the car and turn the wheel to flush the rack and hoses then drain the old fluid from the tank from the return hose feed on the tank and you can drain it by removing the return hose and having a catch bottle ready can plug the hole on the tank from inside the tank before removing the hose to not spill it

@FordMercGuy
@FordMercGuy 2 года назад
Hi mate, I wouldn't start the car personally as the pump would draw alot of air in the system which isn't good at all. You could suck as much fluid out top up with fresh fluid fun it for a few mins then suck all the fluid out again and top up with fresh fluid fill the fluid coming out looks fresh. But I ended up doing it my way to try get rid of all the fluid rather than try to dilute it clean. Hope it helps mate.

I'm not sure if mine is going to push the fluid through the clear hose when I turn the steering wheel. How would that work if the car isn't turned on?
@FordMercGuy
@FordMercGuy 2 года назад
Consider it mate, that regardless if car is on or off.. The power steering pump is pushing the fluid around to help the wheels turn. So as the wheels turn the fluid is moving. It may move quicker when the car is on, but it certainly moves when the car is off. Hope it helps!

Hi mate. Thanks for the video. I did mine over the weekend. Only problem I am having is when the engine is off the oil level is full but when I start the engine then the oil sucks in and level is below low while engine is running and comes back to normal full when I turn off. @FordMercGuy
@FordMercGuy 3 года назад
Hi mate, oil level should be checked when car is off for accurate reading otherwise the oil is splashing around and giving false reading on the stick. Most commonly car oil levels is to be checked when oil is at operating temperature and car has been off for a few minutes for the oil level to drop to accurate level to be read on the stick. I'm not a mechanic but owners manual and online research will give you more info on this. Cheers

And needs bleeding like in this video also what size is that clear hose and metal connector, and from what you said at the end of the vid about the car bleeding the air out of the system i take it this is a self bleeding system?
@FordMercGuy
@FordMercGuy 2 года назад
Hey brother, I'm no mechanic but I can talk from my own experience here. Maybe your pump is on its way out? When I had air in my system.. The whole steering would shake at slow speeds like doing 3 point turns etc. One way you can test for air in your system is out the front wheels up in the air on jack stands, take the cap off the reservoir and turn left and right and see if inside the reservoir if it's bubbly and frothy from any bubbles/micro bubbles getting pushed through the system and up into the reservoir being pushed up high. Unfortunately the metal connector was something I picked up at random from Total tools and the hose I bought from Mitre 10 that fit the size of the metal connector. Find out the power steering hose diameter (pretty generic for most power steerings of most makes) and find a connector that can fit inside the power steering diameter. Sorry can't be of more help there mate.
