What I learned in my parts interpreter years was that often left and right springs are different on vehicles to compensate for the torque reaction from the motor.
As a previous falcon owner, can relate to sticking with the rubber on the front upper control arms. Changed mine to poly and ended up going back, just nicer for something you drive everyday.
This video coming out now is perfect timing Benny! Just found out yesterday the Michellin P4's I have on the front have excessive camber wear, even though they're nearly new. Been wanting to do a camber kit and coilover install for a long time. Thanks mate 👌👍
One thing I regret on my FG MK2 XR6T is going shortened shocks and SSL springs all around. I nearly went Shockworks coilovers but decided against it at the last minute. Might have to revisit that again soon.
The best AND most comfortable setup for an FG sedan IS King Springs KFFL 40SSL front, and KFRL 68SSL rear with Monroe Lowered GT SPORT SHOCKS...why do I know, because I've just had it done and it's amazing! Superb ride comfort and handling...
What happened to those 1L gear oil "bags" I used to see on the show? I imagine those are amazing for filling rear ends and transmissions with gear oil. I've never seen them in America, but they seem more economical, easier to ship in bulk, and obviously easier for the consumer. Not to mention they would be better for recycling or disposal due to the reduced size when empty.
The super pro solid upper inner nylon bushes with steel centers dry up and get so noisy, I've tried 2 types of rubber grease, and even copper grease the 3rd time, they dry up every 6 months, so next time I'll stick with the oem style
Yeah those stock rear ute springs are fairly average . Anyone looking for a budget upgrade can switch to heavy duty stock units. I had a work ute with those and the ride was great even when loaded. It's nice to see the local aftermarket support for the FG . When I was into modding falcons years ago you had to custom make a lot of stuff. Hope you guys get out of lockdown soon and we can all go back to life as normal.
I have fitted Kings Springs all round on my XY Urethane bushes (but not rear spring insulators) all round, and on the front of the Xf (tip run ute). When I did the swap on the Xf the urethane bushes idler arm was cracked badly, so some tips on care and longevity of urethane bushes would be good. I know you have to use the right grease but how often should you inspect and regrease?
Tbh I don’t know much about the diff it’s self. It has heavy duty cast welded on axle ends too. I purchased it from ACM years ago as an XR6 T diff but no one knows anything about it. The diff centre is an eaton tru trak
Is this all doable without a hoist ? What's your opinion on the best type of tramp rod kits that are above the axle that stop the leaf wrapping during acceleration ?
Hey mate, I've installed "malwood style" tramp rods on my FG ute and the difference it made in the responsiveness of putting power down to the road is insane. In saying that they transfered a lot of NVH to the chassis as the kit i used didn't use any bushing. Took them out, too harsh for a daily but they definitely work.
Benny: “I bought a XR6 ute for a daily work horse. Also Benny: front end swap, new engine, suspension, custom exhaust. You just don’t like stock cars do you Benny.
That new leaf pack looks more heavy duty than my 1 ton leaves! The whole video is basically what I did to my ute however I still need to carry lots of "firewood"
How does this leaf spring rear set up compare to the Maloo rear suspension set up for stability, bounce, performance etc? Is it possible to have that new magnetic ride suspension (like in Mustang GT350) fitted in the FG Falcon ute (or even AU)?
7:53 sigma goodness!!! Actually love the Ute had one myself best fun you can have for a workhorse. Hey btw your production value has really stepped up lately keep doing what you are doing mate. I look forward to seeing dragweek 2022 videos
Great work mate. Love seeing the falcon vids. Pleassssse put some foglights in it. Or get someone to 3d print you some smooth/delete replacement bezles
Benny, how much guess work is there in adding the shims. Did you have a alignment first to know how much out they were? How hard is it to add shims whilst getting the alignment?
Great video Benny! Love you work! Quick question, I've got a 2015 FGX XR8 Sedan bone stock. Any upgrades that you'd recommend I do with one of those? (Sorry if this isn't the best place to ask the question but I figured I'd shoot my shot lol)
Hey Benny i want to know, how are you doin mate ? Are you and the fam surviving lock down and all the crazy bs going on ? I know it's not easy mate so i thought i would just ask.
@@BennysCustomWorks yeah I hear what you mean, I've looked into it too as I have a mkii turbo with inbuilt gps but can't update the maps as ford doesn't support it, main reason I wanted to update to fgx and hoped you found a solution. 👍
I have a fg xr6 ute and I'd like to do a tru track upgrade as well. Are you able to comment on how much would be a reasonable price to pay for the labour or a exchange unit? Thanks Benny love the channel😁👍
Thanks for the videos. Is there a WIKI page that shows the names of the same car but in different countries? ex Ford Commodore in Australia is what in North America. Love the Australia car shows, but hard to follow when the car names are different then North America.
These weren’t sold outside of Australia and New Zeland really, the holden commodore in the US was pontiac g8 in VE Era and Chevrolet SS in the VF era. The Holden Statesman/ Caprice ( luxury car in Aus) was sold in the US as the Caprice PPV but all models were full volume manufactured in Australia.
Looks great Benny! Always loved utes. As a rule of thumb it’s a good idea to loosen the fill plug first, that way you know you can put new oil in it 😅 atleast up here where everything rusts
Hi, just found your vid’s after watching the mcm for few years.. just bought a 2010 fg tray ute. I want to upgrade the suspension but unsure of way to go. Want to be able to carry 1.75-2.00 tons rather than just 1.00-1.50..! Can you give any advice please? Keep up the great work 👍🍻
@@BennysCustomWorks cheers mate! I looked around a whole lot and could only find people talking about x and e series vehicles - i know the wagons suspension designs are pretty old but didnt know how it compared to the utes. If im gonna put lowered springs on the wagon i'd want them to be heavier anyway otherwise it'd create other problems.
I always thought the "hang your caliper" thing was a bit of a workshop fable. Brake lines are designed to deal with 70+ bar of line pressure, a couple of kilos of caliper hanging off them should make no difference to them unless they are already shot.
Thanks Benny - another helpful video. I need to do my upper A arms, radius and control arms in my FGX XR6T. Having issues finding those Superpro arms on sparesbox....where did you get them from?
@@BennysCustomWorks the problem with living in a small country (sweden) is that manufactures only bring in the boring mainstream models to the market. I guess I’ll have to win the lottery and then import something 👍🏻
This was only a 1 inch / 25mm / 2.5 cm drop so not drastic. No wedges but the falcon also uses a CV joint at the diff end of the tailshaft so possibly that helps too
@@BennysCustomWorks wanted ask your opinion as obviously you’re the falcon guru , i reset some 1 tonne heavy load springs and dropped considerably 4 inch or so , would this drop cause the vibration or would the cv , i just checked the cv looks fine and only about 2mm of rotation movement when in neutral, appreciate any advise as it’s a pain to diagnose . iv ordered a 2 degree diff shim to try and see if this helps
@BennysCustomWorks yes I've been watching slowly catching up to current . I love my fords I have a 87 xf falcon and maybe do a engine conversion but no barra to many going round lol.
Benny, centimetres is a unit used by dressmakers. In the mech/steel trades we use mm and m as units. I learnt this valuable lesson 25 years ago when a boilermaker told me "we are not making fkn dresses". Just a heads up.
Ugh, still jealous that y'all get Falcons. They won't sell them in the states. I'm guessing they don't want to eat into their own pickup sales. Great work though. Love seeing others keep the quality high.
@@Healthliving1967 For Subarus the bypass valve pressure in a Ryco oil filter is a lot lower than in a Subi-branded filter. Cut two open and test for yourself.
Wagons are more on the Sedan side than Ute which is more like the Pickups, 2 sections the body and tray, as a wagon that body goes all the way to the end, more heavy-duty/carry load than most Sedans hence the Leafs.
