Ford Falcon XR8 v Holden Commdore SS V Redline Track Review 

i took an FG-X xr8 for a test drive early last year, all that power was scary. helluva rush!

This is my dream ford. I love the design the power and just everything. XD

I was at Wakefield, that very day, driving my mate's Toyota 86, and everyone in the pits were asking questions concerning this matchup. I was listening in on what was being said, and I can tell you that the driver admitted that he was shocked at the times but the ultimate reason for the Falcon being slower is that it was spinning the tyres a lot more, trying to punt out of all the slow corners. The Holden was a lot more tractable and balanced, power wise, because of the peak torque arriving later in the rev range. But he went on to say that if the race was run at Winton or Eastern Creek, that the Falcon would be able to exploit its superior top end and the times would be more in the Falcon's favour. Would the Ford have gone quicker with slightly wider rubber at the rear? It's anyone's guess. To be honest, Wakefield suits little cars more than two mammoth barges like these. I was almost lapping quicker than both of these in my mate's stock 86. Don't get me wrong though. Just because they're big, doesn't mean I wouldn't buy one!A white F6 sedan and a black Maloo ute, please Santa!!!!!

The grin on his face when he got out of the XR8 says it all. It was like a f#@k yeah grin. "Felt faster" and I am sure if he was given more time to actually control the extra grunt on the tight circuit the the lap times would have improved significantly. Also totally agree the importance that tyres would play here, this is partly are comparo between the the differences in rubber used by each car.

Now I like to see the comparsion between Insignia, in your case the ZB Commodore vs. Ford Mondeo. At least Ford is smart enough not to name the Mondeo as Falcon!

Disregard the power figures here, the XR8's Miami 5.0 is making 375kW/650Nm versus the Redline's 270kW/530Nm... that's 28% more power and 19% more torque !

have to remember the Falcon needs to wipe off alot more speed comming into the corners..power on will be later because it will just wheelspin....the fact they are both achive essentially the same laptime but in completely different ways is a absolute credit to both Holden and Ford in our two final versions of our cars

The lowest point in my life was when I was a holden fan for around 6 months that is when my dad and brother disowned me. But I'm rehabilitated now and my family as welcomed me back in their lives.......

BS MY2015 SSV Redline re: L77 6lt does it in 5.4 second's 0 to 100KM AUTO as well ? EVEN P DRIVE does its own testing with most of the FORD and holden models and they are consistent ?

Who would have thought a Redline would be faster around a track than the new xr8 (essentially a GT R Spec). Gotta wonder how much bigger the gap would be on a larger track

One of these cars snuck aboard a shipping barge headed Stateside and instead of being deported, it would be marketed as a Chevy. Holden won this battle even without Ford ducking out early.

Also there you go more HP does not mean your going to be quick on a track, look at the LJ XU1 compared to a V8 at the time the fastest 4 door sedan in he world ? XY GT Ho with over 270KW and top speed of 140 miles per hour, yet the little LJ XU1 was always over taking the bigger cars due to the extra steering and power to weight etc. :)

Look loved the video but pullin a 0-100 in 5.4 and 6.4 when both these cars are capable of low 5 seconds times on a bad day is weak the Falcon can easily do a 4.7 seconds and the commodore a 5.2 on a good surface

Ford would have been the better choice if they updated the interior. Nothing worse then being inside this car, and has the dash from 10 years ago.

Ive owned various fords and holdens over the years. Currently Holden is just a better car, the ford lacks good chassis dynamics.

the difference in lap times could be the difference in tyres lol, never been a fan of the sp sport maxx tyres ford uses Holdens bridgestone offerings are much better

driven the new Senator , R8 Clubsport ...my mates have both..I opted the SSV Redline.....absolutely no performance difference ! Infact Holden and Performance Drive all state 0-100 in 4.8 secs for all 3 and I would have to agree .....A supercharged V8 cant even beat the Holdens ...imagine simple OTR , tune and catback in my Redline ! My mates VF Calais with full exhaust , tune and OTR ...A CALAIS would eat this Ford ...all for 50k with basic mods and no super charger !

He does not get the times right. 0-100 times are too slow. Its capable of 4s- you never floor a V8 in 1st. I think the SS is slower- again. He does not power out of the corner properly in the Ford....a GT-R spec suspension and a stock SS sorry. You threw the boxing match...go get your brown paper bag from GM...

The Falcon V8s are american but the 6's are all ours made right here and are pretty much ripping up the road everywhere! One bloke has got 1600hp out of his XR6 Turbo! Since 1972 the falcon has been 100% OURS. We designed it, engineered it and built it. It's a very underated aussie car where as the Commodore has simply been a overated bogans sheeps car basically and Holden as a company really knows how to pull the wool over the australian people, It makes me bloody SICK. Classing cruzes, captivas, barinas, colarados as australian when they are simply rebadged peices of korean crap! You only have to read on up the publics reveiws on these rip offs to really see just how bad they are. BUT...People still buy them becasue holden tells them to because its a holden and its austrailan and my best friend has one and the doors go THUMP when you close them and they look cool BLA BLA BLA. Idiots.I like HSVs and classic holden cars but thats it. I actually hate the company HOLDEN. If only we exported the falcon to america. So clearly power isn't everything.. the Holden makes up so much ground with a better overall chassis than the Ford. The XR8's inferior chassis struggling to make good use of its considerable power advantage. But on the flip side, if the SS did have 30 or 40 more kw which it will have when it soon gets the 6.2L engine it will prove even more capable due to its superior chassis that will make better use of the extra power. I can't even say that Ford has dropped the ball with this car as they haven't held the ball for quite some time now to begin with.
