Brilliant review, love my little 125ps one, mine's just the standard ST-L. Must admit it doesn't feel much slower than the 140, but much quicker than the 100. Certainly a great upgrade from my old 2006 Focus 1.6!

Great review! I bought an 18 plate standard st line 140 last December. Am really enjoying it, even if I'm the slightly older demographic of 44 years old lol. Always loved the Fords.
Picked up my 100ps model in desert island blue about 2 months ago. I love how nippy the car can be at times. Would love to try out a 140ps model or even an ST at some point. Great review!!
At last, a detailed road test that lasted day's and not just the three hours stipulated by the dealer. Your opinions made a lot of sense to me and well delivered. But an average of just 38 mpg is surprising when in my MK.7 1.4, 4 cyl. Titanium, 3 door burning Gulf Endurance, l can reliably get 55mpg and no, l don't drive like an old plonker. I let all four of the ads run. Cheers.
Great review, got the standard st line 140bhp myself, love the car looks great, mines got the 18" alloys & tinted windows looks just as good as the full blown ST. Drives superb.

@@Joe-kb2ne started around £1500 with black box but I was 19 when I got it so it was always gonna be high I guess. I’ve had it over a year and I’m paying around £700 with a box again could’ve paid £900 for it without but with the current state of the world I wanted the cheapest. Honestly it’s worth every penny mate to have that car
I have had my St Line x 140 for 4 weeks and I have to agree with you about the brakes. They are very good apart from the initial pedal movement where nothing happens. It's very difficult to gauge braking when you are travelling very slow in traffic. I suppose it will get better the more I use it. Thanks for the video, I was going to buy the 125 but glad I bought the 140.
I used to own a mk7 Titanium. Ford seems to engineer a really nice feel to the steering, pedals and gearshift but with a soothing ride. I don't like the styling of the mk8, it needed to look sharper but the driving quality is beyond reproach.
Wanted the 140 engine so went for a 2019 Vignale which at the time was 9 months old with just 950 miles. A Ford direct car on the 18 inch alloys and I really enjoy it. A good saving on new with all the extras the Vignale offers. Did not want the ST Line and I think the standard suspension is fine. Will it is for me, and we need to remember the Fiesta chassis has always had a good reputation. Only has 21k on it now. We all know about the engines reputation now (ecoboom!?) but I just ensure it's regularly serviced using the right/ recommended oil. Serviced by a Ford specialist and this year I will ask that they check the bottom of the engine for any signs of belt deterioration. If I do change at some point I will consider the Fiesta 155 mehv with it's revised chain driven engine, and from what I understand even better performance.
I found the exact same with the steering. It’s really fidgety over bumps. It didn’t use to be like that. I’m had my steering column replaced and it’s been like that since then. I was the first person in the UK to have it done and waited 5 weeks as they didn’t have the software update to spec the new column to the car. 2x failures there for me.
@@HillJamie17 weight is a very underrated metric , Hp/ton to me is more important than raw HP. Sure aerodynamics come into play but not much at legal speeds. I have a ECU tuned Suzuki Swift Sport. 975kg with 170hp and 300nm of torque is plenty when your not on a race track or willing to risk your license. I have a new appreciation for torque now aswell , Came from a 2012 Swift Sport with 136hp but only 160nm of torque all the way up at 4400rpm , Now I have 300nm at just 2500rpm I can leave it in third on b roads and it works great. Mrs now has that car but I'm tempted to get one of these for her.
@@Jasontvnd9 yes I fully agree. And yes I think torque is far more important for everyday driving rather than top end power. I don’t really like working my car to the limit so torque is my favourable figure 😂. I own a MK8 ST and as stock I even feel like the torque is enough to enjoy the car without actually working it too hard
@@HillJamie17 it's so true , Old car revved past 7k rpm only problem is to get any progress you had to get it up past 5k. Good if you are in the mood but a bit hooligan when trying to overtake a tractor with your mum in the passenger seat.
You can download software if your computer savvy. Or book it in to a tuning garage. I used a local firm, Atlas ECU tuning. Great service. Car picks up much better around 2-3000rpm.
Just joined your channel Gary, hope you don't mind, I'm 63yrs young, but always loved Fords. I really love this particular review, as I'm a bigger guy, and LOVE the ST, but the Recaro's would be a no, no! The Line -X with bucket seats would be more forgiving for me! Still glad I only paid 16k for my pre registered '17 plate MK7 ST3 Stage 1 Mountuned fez with 8 miles on the clock in 2017. Still puts a smile on my face now. This would be good for a younger driver as you say. Disappointing MPG from it though.
@@CarFocused But for a little 3 litre that supposedly turns 1 cylinder off at times is poor. My MK7 does about 34/35 with plenty of right foot aswel. That RS needs to only average 20 something MPG or you're not driving it correctly 👍😁
Ive just sold my VW Up! Gti and leased a new st line mhev x edition 155. Im in my 30s and this is our 2nd car. The list price was over £23k and no way i could have even considered this when i was
I’ve got the fiesta st line x edition which is the diesel version, in my car it seems to have different driving modes that are, eco, snow?, sport, and a rain drop which I presume is for wet roads. It only switches between eco mode and normal driving mode. Any idea on how to switch it to sport?

When lock down ends, test drive both. I had the chunky salesman and my 6'4" mate in on the test and there's no choice. Just get the ST or you will regret it. The Fiesta model is great across the range but, if you can afford it, get the ST because the 140 felt weak by comparison. Might be OK driving one up but descriptions like nice, adequate and enough tell you all you need to know.
Tbf, my stage 1 st isn't exactly much different in MPG and reliability. I still get 40-45mpg on a long drive. Have to see if it changes with the next map
I mean I can afford an ST, but it's the insurance/fuel costs. As a daily driver the new 155 MPEV seems a much better bet. Basically this but even easier to run. Another option is a standard Zetec/Edge/Style whatever used 100 or 125 version which can be remapped to 160hp stage 1 and fit coilovers and ST wheels or aftermarket ones. In some ways the standard car looks better. I prefer the bigger foglamps. Just change out mouth grill.
My ceed 1. 0 3 cylinder 120 bhp was only slightly faster than the 100 bhp ecoboost fiesta. I was shocked. The 140 bhp shoot past me. They do 0 to 60 mph in like 8.5 secs
Shamoun Kyriakos yes it is if it’s in sport mode all the time and only urban driving, but if you have it in normal mode and go on the motorways doing longer journeys you loads of mpg.
It’s good on fuel if you wait till your in the high gears to start flooring it I’m getting 33 mpg but that’s mainly because loads of plod about at the moment because of all these idiots getting caught doing over 100 mph because of the quieter roads over the last few months
So in the real world a fiesta 140bhp or a mk7 fiesta st 1.6 is a better all round car for performance and mpg than a focus rs mk2. If you drove the rs mk2 for 500 miles around Wales would probably be about 3 tanks of fuel, getting close to £200. But the focus rs mk2 is a real special car. Would be nice to buy one. They must get a lot of attention where ever they go in a rs, but a fiesta st or 140bhp goes under the radar. Nice video.
Awesome little car, found the first 1000 miles is about 38 then beyond steadily creeps up to 43 around 2000 and I give it hell, and treat it like a hire car, mixed driving 50 miles a day. Find it more compliant down a back lane than mk8 st as the suspension is a bit softer.
Very interested in getting one of these, but with the 18' alloys instead. I currently drive a Mondeo Titanium X Sport, and some people are telling me I'll regret the downsize. I'm also 48 years old, so not really in the target demographic, but always fancied a warm Fiesta. Just worried about how I'll get on with it, on a day-to-day basis. I'm 6ft tall, so wondering how cramped it might feel, as the Mondeo is HUGE. 😂
Can't say about the 3 door version for space, but i've driven a five door fiesta many times and i'm 6'4, i have plenty of space as a driver and someone 6 foot or under can comfortably sit behind me. it's a little but very spacious car.
Forgive me if I’m wrong but at the time of filming this a couple of years back I believe it was standard with the X pack. But like a say it was a while back now and they have changed the options list since.
I rented a Titanium version for a month and I loved the car so much, I decided to buy one. They didn't have any Titanium spec models in the colour I wanted so I selected the ST Line version. I have owned my 125ps ST line 5 door for three months now. The ride quality can feel smooth at times and at other times, it can be unbearable on bad roads. I think Ford has messed with the Titanium's compliance a bit too much and the car would be easier to live with on 16" rims with 55 profile tyres. I feel I could drive the Titanium version quicker on a bad road than my ST Line as you don't have to pussy foot around potholes etc. The fluidity of the Titanium model's handling has been lost to a point with the ST lIne model. The car is very sensitive to tyre pressure with the 17" rims and 45 profile tyres. My car came new with over 40 PSI all round and I dropped them to 34 (33 recommended) at the front and 29 (29 recommended) at the rear. I also keep the tank full to help damp the rear end better. The 140ps version would make better use of the chassis/handling but I don't think the 18" wheels on the ST Line X would do the ride any favours. The interior on the car (Rental car had 20000 miles on the clock) I rented never had any rattles in any of the plastic trim. My car has had some bad squeaks/rattles which I have solved myself with self adhesive felt and teflon PTFE spray. The interior door handles and fake carbon interior trim are the main culprits. The brakes are typical Ford and lack initial bite. They would greatly benefit from a Goodrich hose kit to improve the initial bite. The steering can feel vague off centre at low speeds but tightens up nicely as you pick up speed. I think Ford should offer a Titanium specced version with the styling kit of the ST line, possibly the sports suspension but with 16" rims/55 profile tyres. It would be an easier car to live with on a day to day basis. I am contemplating doing the Mountune 140ps ECU remap which doesn't affect the Ford warranty.
Thanks for all that info. The zetec has 15inch rims and stock Bridgestone ecopia on 65 section. Great fun and compliant, but.... You've just encouraged me to go 16 with decent tires, thanks. Then a Revo map (for the day to day torque advantage as the gearing is so widely spaced).
I also bought the ST-Line, since it was the only model available in black. I have to agree about the suspension. Do you think it might be possible to keep the tyres and just let the dealership change the suspension to the Titanium version?
This is the 2nd review I have seen on the st line - both done by guys who own much faster fords - both seem like they’re trying to be nice about a car they really don’t like that much - probably because they have cars with double / treble the power. The other review was done by jaj who owns a focus rs.
Car Focused I know it is a good car - I own one. I did not buy it because I can’t afford an ST - I bought it because I like the way it looks and drives. I’m not a stupid teenager - neither are you - nobody is gonna buy an ST line and rag it like you did.

The average MPG is a little disappointing.. Looking to get the wife the MK8 Fiesta and this 140 st line x seems to be the one to get her but that MPG is shocking. I daily a MK7 ST and that's always hovering around 37-39mpg.
I'm averaging about 42mpg from the Mk7 ST but have gotten everything from 30 to 50 out of a tank. Shorter journeys from cold in winter seem to bring it down a lot. Normally use Momentum 99 nowadays as it gives consistent MPG.
it´s more than enough power with the 140bhp in a litle car like the Fiesta. i had a Nissan Qashqai with 110bhp and that car is much bigger and weighs more than the Fiesta.
Top tip get ECU flashed all these Fiestas are identical yes that's the same engine you just have to get the ECU flashed and get 140 brake horsepower don't tell insurance company
And magically, you’re not insured and committing insurance fraud. If you have a big accident they will check it and you will be in deep shit, not worth it.
I have this car for 3 months. As I was trying to get comfortable with it, I started overdoing it more and more and more to test its limit. And it never understeers. Amazing job. great balance. Over the limit, it oversteers like a 4 wheel drive in a very progressive way and the esp doesnt come on. It only engages when it is too late for you to save it. It fills you with confidence. It is the classic dillema. Do you like a slow/fast enough car with amazing handling, or would you like a rocket that has trouble through the bends? If you choose the first one, like europeans do, this car and the ST, are perfect. I don't know if an ST would actually be faster in the countryside. It is more like the track-day version. The only thing I hate is how light the steering is. It is solid in the center (probably because it is set for maximum handling), amazingly stiff in motorway high speeds, but too light while cornering. And you are the first guy who mentions that. I would disable the "power steering assistance" over 20mph if I were ford. Great video!
not sure how its 'ridiculous' that a brand new tech filled car costs more than a 10 year old car with thousands of miles and alot lot lot less features/tech
Yes, a second hand focus mk 2 or even a mk 3.5 could be bought for a bit more. This St line seems a very good car, but an 18' with some miles on and a good few thousand pounds less would start to make more sense.
It's still a ford, in 24 years of driving I've never felt the need to go back to a Ford or French crap, it's OK if you want to keep it for 3 years when new, but after that, you need deep pockets, most manufacturers are bulding to an estimated 10 year life span, I've been there and done that when it comes to car brands/models, and I'm afraid unless it's a Honda of VAG group car, it's going to be very expnsive to keep on the road after 5 years. if you expect to keep a car for a while instead of trading up/waste of money lease crap - This is of course in my experience and humble opinion :P :)
79RockShox I still ave my 2008 fiesta which I had from new, I’ve never changed the oil, it’s only had brakes ,tyres and has completed 126,000 miles and still runs as good as new.
It’s a perfectly safe little car with enough power to safely get you out of tricky situations. I’d rather my son be driving this than a car that barely had enough power to pull the skin off a rice pudding. I was driving a 166bhp Fiesta RS Turbo at 18, a car which weighed barely anything and I made it to the present day 😁
Why do a review and not review your facts. The red accents in the trim are standard not a configurable option. The 18" wheels are also not a configurable option. Jeez!
