Ford focus 2009 tcdi instrument cluster fault 

Solder joints go dry on connector on the clocks check the connection to the alternator as sometimes this can cause a similar issue. Happy to help.

@@linzimonaghan6069 Paid £50 to get the solders re-done. Honestly the worst car i've ever had, constantly needed repaired for all manner of issues. Never again will I go to Ford, Fix or repair daily really is a true motto from my experience

Forgot to mention. To prove it's the cluster just give it a couple of whacks with your hand and see if it clears the fault temporarily. I can give mine a slight tap and it goes faulty. Causes the car to go into limp home mode with reduced acceleration or just won't start.

Took the car to garage. It was a faulty message was due loose connection between battery and engine, and the guy could delete it. Now the car is running perfectly.

@father thomas The error still exists. Took to Ford service centre, they said we need to replace the cluster instrument and it costs about 1000£. M worried now, because I don't think the car is worth of 1000£. Any suggestions?

@@lohithkumar6243 go to electrician who deals with cluster it only needs resoldering and job will be fixed.. its not mechanical fault its electric fault.. will cost alot cheaper as i paid £50 uk.. if the electrician says you need new cluster he will get it for you.. if it needs only repair then they will fix it.. never go ford dealer as they are useless they are the one who build ford and they dont know nothing about the car.. only thing they know is how to take money of you.. if you still have the car take it to cluster specialist they will sort it out and will cost way lower than 1000£

Yes they were the instrument cluster was lit up like a Christmas tree when you driving and it happens the needles drop and there is loss of power but you can still drive the car. If you hit the dash the problem sometimes goes away. The solder points on the board go dry and need reflow then the problem is fixed.

check the connection is not loose if it's still doing it it's the solder joints have gone dry in the cluster.

If its a 1600 diesel engine then is Bosch S4 Car Battery 100 (72Ah)

I had to push the clocks in and it would return to normal you can buy a used set of clocks but they will have to be coded to the car and the mileage would be wrong its worth phoning an local auto electrician to see if they can copy the data form your old clocks before buying a used set.

@@antukeya1086 its best to find a local auto electrician.talk to them see if they know the problem. you have and get an estimate how much it would be to fix your clocks if you get second hand clocks they have to be coded to the car and the mileage has to be changed.

Had it fixed for £90.00 soldering joints go dry on back of the board and it stops making a connection take it to an autoelecriton they will sort it.

Pls let me know how to fix such issue as my car has same problem now, if I change the meter then data will remain same or it will be deleted ?

wayne brigham I've got same problem but mine starts. It's only when it's hot and it does engine malfunction lost speed. I think your comment is what I'm having issues with. I have same car and cluster. Thank you for your comment. I know your was 7 months ago. Funny enough when I got mine lol.

@@parigazo7637 no just resolder dry joints on PCB board where pins connect to the borad.

What is cantran?

The connection on the instrument cluster needs to be resoldered as old solder has broken. Notorious fault with MK2 focus cluster.

PS. Plenty of videos on here showing process. It's DIY job if you can solder.

Get auto electrical engineer too look at it just needs solder reflow probably. It will be much cheaper.

C'mon... It cost like 20€ to fix it

@@stanislavhadaj4993 in most cases resoldering of dashboard connector from backside fix the problem caused by soldering technology at Visteon factory. If You are not into electronics I don't recomend You to DIY. If you are sure you can diy there are many video tutorials on YT what to do and how to do resolder fix. I must warn You also You will probably need some obd2 diagnostic tool to reset some DTC .
