Those rubber bolts are for fixed the strange roof rack for our 3 door Focus. This is a usual rusty point, just to cover that point with a bit of paint spray is good. If that point leak to much the spare wheel site will be full of water. Sorry if my english is not good.

Now I never knew that, I knew you could get a roof rack for a 3 door but I've never actually seen one!

Also the boot seal can be an entry point. Where it meets at the bottom there is often a small gap which is enough to cause water ingress.

It can be but very rarely unless it's been damaged in some way like acut/tear. Water won't get in through that piece that connects the two, water is lazy and once at the bottom of the boot area if washes away down the drain holes below the rear lights.

I just pulled the entire rear of my hatch apart looking for a leak and have found the plastic triangle trim panel at the back of the rear side glass to be leaking. Just another spot to check. Cheers. Edit: this is only on the 3dr models. Silicone around holes and plastic clips should fix it.

Rear side glass? Do you mean the rear light clusters?

@@shhssnsjs1910 it may be different but mine is a Canadian car. There is a small triangle plastic panel between the tail light and quarter glass of my 3dr. Leaks through plastic clips and foam gasket for the triangle.

I've only seen this occur once, it usually comes through the clip that this pieces attaches to, silicon around the clip!

Those grommets you mention. Here on the mk1 US cars, Ford inserted a threaded nut in there to accept the roof rack specifically designed for our special edition Kona trim package cars. I myself have installed one on my own car.

I've been told this, that is interesting :)

Life saver my car suffers from bad leaks and have been looking in depth to find reasons and couldn't find out till now

it's really frustrating but I hope this can in the least minimise the ingress and the damage it can cause, stopping it completely is another matter!

At my wits end now with my boot leak. Haven't had chance yet to remove the rear arch liners and work on that area but I have bought new vents. On the left I sprayed a load of Dynax first then double sealed the new vent in. On the right I couldn't renew the vent as a cable is running through it for the tow bar electrics but again I dynaxed that area and sealed the vent. The tailgate hinge bolts were all tight and dry in the roof lining. No sign of water in the electrics or rubber sleeve. I siliconed the seams and rubber screws as shown in this video. When I removed the lights the rubber seals were completely dry. I drove to work last night in the pouring rain and when I checked all seemed ok. When I finished work after much more heavy rain the left side by the vent was dry and the right was soaking. As the car hadn't moved during my shift I can only assume it's not coming from the arches with water kicking up

You've done all the right things to limit the water coming in, it sounds exactly like mine. I've got this feeling there's another seam where it's sneaking in slowly, was the puddle deep... i.e. enough to flood into the spare wheel well?
@Paul_Davies77
@Paul_Davies77 Год назад
@Usually Fixing & Tinkering Leaks are a complete Bast! There is plenty of water to spill into the wheel well. My thinking now is to completely seal off the light housing with butyl tape (inc the torx screw) and pour plenty of water over that area from the hose. I'll then dry the area, take off the tape and remove the light housing. If it's dry under the housing and inside by the vent, I'll know that's the source.. if not then I'm stumped again. Hope that makes sense
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering Год назад
@@Paul_Davies77 crap that's more than mine. Give that a try because I've done the same especially around the torx screw itself!
@Paul_Davies77
@Paul_Davies77 Год назад
@Usually Fixing & Tinkering Tried again today. Before covering anything I opened the boot and used the hose to pour water down the full length of the light housing. Whilst doing this I could see plenty of water pooling in the area of the vent so thought I'd finally found where it was coming from. So I removed the lights, surrounded all the holes with the butyl tape, reattached the lights then completely covered the edges of the housing and torx screw. Rained again today so after a few hours I checked the vent area and it was full of water again! If it had only been a few drops I'd have been ok with that but it's like I had done absolutely nothing. Don't know what else to do.

Spent around 3 hours on the weekend resealing everything and it's still soaking in the wells by the vents. I've ordered an inspection camera now to see it that can shed any light.

How can I tell which of these is the problem please? I bought my car recently from a friend who explained the damp in the back asbhes left it open in a downpour. Had never had issues before. The car is now leaking badly, I was away this weekend and noticed dampness on the left hand side od the boot carpet, the footwells had filled with water by the time I got back, serious standing water. I've never done this kind of repair before, can you reccomend any how to guides please? Is this something a garage could do for me and if so how much would they charge? Thanks for your help.
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering Месяц назад
I can't answer most of that because it depends on how long it takes a garage to find this leak, it will comes from several places and there is no way of telling unless you strip the rear boot and c pillar trims and watch for where the water is coming in. This video highlights all the main areas
